  1. Hi, I'm fairly certain that my threshold is right as I've done a couple of tests over the past 2 months (the last one was up a very big well known hill - time was 54min with 280NP). My max HR is around 194 although I haven't worn a HR belt for a couple of years so my age might be catching up with me!
  2. Yes by looking at the profile the first half had the bulk of the climbing. Just interested to hear how one could or should pace oneself. I have little data to work off so this is probably the biggest problem.
  3. Saturday was my first MTB race (Burger, 80k) with a PT. Given that I havent done a race since last year I thought it best to start at the back slowly and try to ride a consistent pace and hopefully push hard over the last 15k's. The first hour I passed almost no one - so really thought I was holding myself back. From hour 2 I started to pick up riders and only had a couple pass me throughout the race. So without looking at my stats I'd say I rode a fairly consistent pace. The stats however don't show that: Current threshold power is 275w Splits (by hour): 1- NP: 250 ; Avg HR: 174 2- NP: 229; Avg HR: 172 3- NP: 214 ; Avg HR: 172 4- NP: 181 ; Avg HR: 171 NP for entire race: 219 The question I have is - in an ideal situation what should I be using to pace myself if I was going to ride another 4 hour race? Should I be trying to hold 219 NP for the entire duration or should one expect power to dip by as much a margin as the numbers above? Any advice appreciated. thanks.
  4. When I went to Jason 6 months ago he didn't have a VO2 max system - although he said they were investigating it. Jason is definitely a "generalist" sports doc and while I like him I think Jeroen or anyone else at Sports Science who have a keen interest in cycling are going to be much better. I can't see Jason being any cheaper than SSI.
  5. Yes I missed out the "black". Riding in full black is like driving without your lights on - simply asking for trouble!
  6. You sound like the model cyclist. Unfortunately I think you're in the minority. I see an endless number of cyclists riding on the coastal road to Chappies every morning ignoring traffic lights, riding 2-4 abreast etc. Of the cyclists I see on this route less than 10% of them ride with rear lights or high visibility clothing. Your chances of being rear ended have to be many times higher if you wear a full Rapha cycling kit - looking cool however seems to be more important.
  7. I'd like to have this frame fixed. Can anyone recommend someone in Cape Town?
  8. Hi, I've been using the entry level PT on my road bike with the Edge 500 for about 18 months. I haven't had any calibration problems and have only needed to calibrate after a battery change. A couple of weeks ago I got a PT for my MTB. I've now had to calibrate both PT's and am not entirely sure how this is meant to work when sharing an edge between two PT's. Can anyone enlighten me on the following: - should the Edge automatically pickup which bike you are using (ie auto identify the PT)? Mine doesn't - I have to manually select the bike from the system settings every time I move the Edge. - how often should I need to re-calibrate and should this be done when moving between road and MTB PT's? - what exactly do the calibration numbers mean and should I be taking notice of them? thanks.
  9. If you haven't already check out www.thesufferfest.com
  10. Good for who? People living in Germany?
  11. I'll be keeping the old frame for the indoor trainer (which I wouldn't be surprised is what caused the crack in the first place). Titanium may be "fringe" but I like it - and thats all that matters! If I wanted to ride a Toyota of bikes I would have gone with a Giant! I rode the new bike this morning and its great - even had some of my carbon only mates looking in envy! thanks for all the comments.
  12. Thought I'd just update this post so anyone in future who searches on Litespeed sees this story.. I sent the pictures to Litespeed and they made a decision within 3 days. As per their warranty they agreed to fix it but I'd need to get it to them ($150 shipping..). They also gave me an option on a new frame (Xicon) discounted by around 60%. I went this route and got the frame yesterday. So all in all a reasonable experience.
  13. Once you've bought the 29er you'll have little need for the 26er.

    Attakwas 2012

This route is apparently a bit shorter than the 2010 route. Does anyone know which section they cut out?
  15. How many uphill rideable single tracks are going to become out of bounds for XC riders?
  16. www.cyclepowermeters.com are running a special at the moment - looks like they're clearing old stock before the 2012 models arrive. At 670 pounds with free shipping to SA this looks like the cheapest I've seen a MTB powertap.
  17. The chance of me (or my estate - if it came to that) suing them is pretty remote.
  18. I noticed a couple of cracks on my Litespeed (on both side of the chainstays) on Saturday. Still rode 1Tonner with no problems. I'm now in a predicament as to whether I continue riding this (up until DC). A warranty claim could take months with Litespeed and I don't have a second bike. For those of you that know titanium and have experience with cracks please let me know your thoughts on how safe this is to ride. thanks.
  19. How does this software compare to SportTracks?
  20. Tabata intervals twice a week. Shouldnt take you more than 15 minutes. Question is whether you can handle the pain.
  21. Do I go for lunch or just continue wasting my time refreshing browsers?
  22. Got the page up again but still getting an error when i try and register...
  23. When I click on register it just says 'there was an error processing your request'
  24. I had the same problem a few years ago - cracked frame.. Lots of waiting for Cecil to get back to me. Email is a waste of time. You need to phone him. Remember that this is a sideline business for Cecil - he's a dentist by profession. So its unlikely you're going to get him on his cellphone during the day. The best time is either before 8 or in the evening. I would also contact Litespeed directly (cc Cecil in) and find out who is looking into your issue.
  25. The bikes at the shop awaiting the rep to take a look but AFAIK this isn't the problem.
