  1. I prefer hot and dry. I don't mind the mud if I am riding someone elses bike
  2. Thanks for the ride yesterday. It was great to have a spin around the course. The course was cool just a bit muddy - I hope race day is a bit drier because that sticky mud adds kilos to the bike! See you all in two weeks time.
  3. Awesome - thanks!
  4. Cool - thanks! My partner is not entered for Rockman but was wondering if she could come along and do 1 lap on Sunday too - would that be ok?
  5. Has anyone received the entry goodies yet? Do we need to pick them up somewhere - I received an email sometime ago stating that all would arrive by post towards the end of October - sadly my post box has remained empty. Just wondering if it got lost in the post?
  6. Hi All, I saw a Spectrum Sport add via email that there would be another training ride this Sunday (17/11/2013) at Vaal Peninsula Estate. Is this still on?
  7. Cool - thanks all!
  8. So should I just ride with it in the on position always? If not, then in what situation(s) should one turn it off?
  9. A chain malfunction resulted in me completely killing my new (~60km on it) XT derailleur so I had to get a new one Now the new one has a feature called a clutch: http://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-XT-M786-Rear-Derailleur which is that little grey lever. Apparently it improves chain tension and reduces chain slap. Does anyone else know anything about this / ridden with this? What are the pros and cons (is it something else that will break all too easily)? When should one ride with it a.) on and b.) off?
  10. My 2c: stick with the MTB for now (put on slicks). It will be easier up the hills with the gearing and you don't want to sit for 4+ hours in a position you haven't trained in.
  11. Quick 2 questions: I've done the shorter tri routes before and thus did not worry too much about eating on the bike - for the Rockman that obviously doesn't apply - does anyone have some general rules or tips on this so that I don't have a crazy stitch when I start running? Second question: when I hop off the bike after a longish session and start running, my hamstrings feel quite tight for about 3kms - anything I can do or is this just part of the fun?
  12. The 8 days have come and gone - so what's the race report say?
  13. Well it seems we will have to return pretty soon to do the Outback trails. We chatted to the guy running the drinks and snacks bar but the 14km climbing seemed to put some of the group off and no-one volunteered to drive the shuttle.
  14. We (an extended group this time) just got back from our second visit to Karkloof (and Howick) this year (see above post). As can be expected we had awesome riding as well as awesome beer drinking. I can highly recommend doing the 15km Falls loop when doing the Karkloof 30km route. The Supa Tube section really rocks. Awesome trails and big thumbs up to the guys that do all the hard work building them!
  15. Great work - thanks!
  16. We rode the blue on Friday afternoon - it was really awesome but gave me a bit of a beating... There were still a couple of forks in the road and i'm not sure if we always took the right route on the B loop but we had a great ride!
  17. Seat goes up... Seat goes down. Awesome - only problem is I have to wait until my birthday to take it for a test ride as it's a present
  18. That's why I always ride clipped in. And because I'm fast
  19. Cool! We're riding Rietvlei blue tomorrow.
  20. Go to Thaba if you really want to know how much Wendell hates you
  21. The "gorilla workout" app has a ton of zero equipment, own body weight exercises with illustrative vids. Each session only takes a few minutes. That having being said, I've been too lazy to really get started...
  22. Left Jhb at 5 on Monday morning, cycled Tugela on Monday, Karkloof on Tuesday, Howick today and even made a beer run down to Rawdons last night so as not to drink 'n drive. Back in the city now but what an awesome 3 day bunk from work .
  23. We are heading there next week. Monday for Tugela, Tuesday for Karkloof and Wednesday for Hilton or Howick. Any recommendations for a self catering spot close enough so that we can still do a pub crawl on the bikes to Rawdons etc.
  24. Took the day off work and went to Van Gaalen's. Awesome - having a bike on the back of your car is the best way to not stress about Jhb traffic; except when a taxi nearly rear ended me...
