  1. A bicycle is insured the same way you would a cell phone. If the current model is not available you need to insure it for the value of the model that is available which is specced the same. If you have an ultegra mechanical groupset you can’t get ultegra di2. Unfortunately there is no book value for bicycles like we have for vehicles so there’s no way around this for insurers.
  2. This is not really the correct process. You first need a decision from the insurer. You then need to go back to your insurer if you’re unhappy. If you’re still unhappy after that, then you approach the ombudsman. If you go straight to the ombudsman, they will during the process ask you and the insurer to liase and see if you can come to an agreement. So you still have to go through the process.
  3. If you’re the first owner they want to check wrt crash replacement policy. i had a claim which I handled recently for a client. He had a trek bike. Assessor made use of the crash replacement policy first when settling claim. In other words, the final claim about was lower because of this. End of the day it’s a business for every insurance company. They will try as best they can to lower the final claim value. As long as they put you in the same position you were before the accident, there job is essentially done.
  4. Sometimes saying less is better. If you had just registered claim normally, it would probably be resolved. The fact that you made it known that it wasn’t your wheels you were riding has now almost triggered more questioning and delayed the claim further.
  5. This is how I have it at the moment. There’s no moving part, its just permanently in the open position.
  6. Pretty sure it’s a cable actuated. There’s only a lock and unlock function. No middle ground etc.
  7. Anyone know if it’s possible to put a manual lockout on a fox front fork which comes with the remote lockout functionality? I dont really want remote levers on my drop bars?
  8. This looks fantastic 🥰. I would run a more inverted stem though. I have the same dilemma on my drop bar hardtail, so trying to source one still. Given the increased stack height on a mtb, I found that I needed to get lower.
  9. Is there any website i can use wrt geometry calculations. I need to fit an inverted stem to my dropbar hardtail as i feel im too high at the moment. So need to know how much to adjust the stem length accordingly if I’m going lower down to make sure I’m not overreaching.
  10. This is all well and good but because the road is now deserted, we’ve got muggings happening in the area.
  11. Yeah, it’s a bit ridiculous it’s taking this long. Another winter coming up and the road will most likely take further damage. One of my favourite climbs in the cape as well so really disappointing this.
  12. But has the road been repaired? Thinking of coming up kloofnek and then down the glen. Will probably be early morning so dont want to descend down into stones and potholes. Perhaps better to just use one of the other roads to get back to main road.
  13. Anyone know if the Glen road from camps bay to lions head has been repaired? Is it rideable?
  14. Try using Ebay for sram stuff from the UK. EBay from the uk is great as they tell you the customs upfront and you pay upfront as well.
  15. I saw this path when I did the climb last time but wasn’t sure whether it not it was fine to go up. Was on my own as well. Also going further into the heart of the mountain, figured i might get mauled by baboons so opted not to do it 🤣
  16. Also some of these passes are not on tar like swartberg. That also makes a huge difference so dont think its right to group them together.
  17. This list is far from complete. So many climbs not on here. Also just based on this list, I’d argue that Hans se Kop (4.2km @ 12%) is much much harder. I will however concede though that just looking at average gradient can be deceiving especially if there’s a flattish part which kinda drops the gradient a bit. But yeah just on this list, 4.2km @ 12% would be an absolute beast of a climb.
  18. What are the stats for this climb? Distance, Gradient etc.
  19. The guests and staff extension are just that, an extension. It’s a small amount that you just get included. Comparing that extension to someone living there permanently who has an interest in the actual goods being insured is completely different. If I was your broker and you told me that you are living with someone but your goods are insured under her policy, I would have made sure to either add you as a co-insured on the policy so that your name is actually reflected on the document or issued a completely new policy for you if you were not married. I think you are lucky tbh that they haven’t defined “spouse” otherwise they’d have a legitimate reason. It’s not as simple as just saying they are looking for a way to repudiate. From their perspective, it’s almost like the insured is trying to claim from someone else’s policy because he doesn’t have his own cover. Im obviously not saying you did that but, you’d be surprised at the lengths people will go to. End of the day, it was upto you to prove insurable interest and you clearly did that. In future, make sure both your names are listed on the policy to prevent this happening again. That’s my advice to you.
  20. You need to prove insurable interest. Generally speaking husband and wife have an automatic interest so that’s fine. You’d probably have to see how a spouse is defined from a legal perspective in South Africa. I know there have been plenty of court rulings where they’ve overturned insurance decisions based on the definition of what a spouse is.
  21. I think the repair industry has come a long way these past 5 years. If it’s a frame under warranty, then surely you would claim that through the manufacturer. If it’s out of warranty, and it’s safe to repair i think the insurers are within their right to repair through a reputable repairer. I know people dont like to hear this but that’s where we are headed. The bike values are essentially car values right now. If people accept a car can be repaired then why not a bike.
  22. Santam are the best company. Not sure about your broker though. Perhaps you need a change there. I am a broker and deal with Santam. Feel free to give me a shout if you need any assistance.
  23. I have a non racing license and i needed approval from someone at the club before they accepted my membership.
  24. If you buy an annual csa non racing membership you still need to be part of a club.
  25. I remember last year Racetec was set to shut down we were told to expect a brand new upgraded website. More than a year has passed and we’re still left with that shite of a website from FinishTime and Racetec website is still active. They clearly don’t care anymore. In other words everything is a mess. Different events use different timing. We now have FinishTime, Racetec, saseeding, myriad and much more. All different timing companies.
