  1. Yeah but i enjoy gravel and mtb.
  2. Lourensford Classic also same weekend as Karoo2coast and Canola Roller. Kinda sucks that!
  3. Yeah tbh I only have the oval because the crank i bought came with the oval ring. I didn’t specifically go out and choose it. So I just thought let’s just try and see it if there’s anything different. And honestly if you just ride, you wont feel anything different especially off-road when the terrain varies all the time. Maybe on a road bike on smooth tarmac it would be more noticeable. But i gotta be honest even when i ride on my mtb on tar I would need to really concentrate on my pedal stroke to actually feel anything. I personally would not waste money on oval if you’re thinking of upgrading. If you are already thinking of changing rings then perhaps. But dont spend just for the sake of getting ovals.
  4. I think if they actually used more than one race for seeding it might alleviate some of the issues. The way the system works now, is if you do 6 races for instance, you only need one good result to get that seeding. Using a 6 month average i think makes more sense. Then at least consistency is been taken into account.
  5. I have an oval ring on my mtb. I have no idea if it makes any difference or not. I will also say that after 5min on my first ride, I couldn’t even notice any difference between round and oval. People have this assumption that with oval it’s gonna feel weird or something. Honestly, it’s barely noticeable.
  6. Looks like 35 degrees on Saturday in Wellington. Will probably feel like its over 40.
  7. Stairway to heaven is just before Dorstberg at Meerendal. I assume for the epic you will come up to Dorstberg initially from the jeep track so not the normal route club members will go. Epic Route: Meerendal start > Top of Dorstberg > Down into Faircape > Cross over into Hoogekraal > Down shake rattle & roll > Cross over into missing link > Back to Meerendal > Stairway to Heaven Recce Route: Meerendal start > Stairway to Heaven > Top of Dorstberg > Back down Dorstberg to start > Traverse to Hoogekraal > Down shake, rattle > Cross over into missing link > Back to Meerendal. This will cover around 80% of the route, albeit not in the same order.
  8. By the way… when I say accessible im referring to accessible with a permit. Get the holiday pass if you dont want to do full membership.
  9. The only part you cant access is once you get to the top of Dorstberg. That gate is shut so no chance of getting in there. However the rest of the route is accessible. You are essentially only missing out on the Faircape part which links Meerendal to Hoogekraal. You’d still be able to do a decent recce of the route.
  10. Now we just need them to overhaul that website. Or essentially merge Racetec with FinishTime. It would actually be nice if we had 1 website where all our races can be seen. I have results everywhere with all these different timing companies.
  11. At least we know Olympic Cycles dont read Bikehub.
  12. So ideally you want a hardtail.
  13. If you wanna do IF for better performance on the bike then it’s definitely something to look into especially if you like endurance type rides. The ability to use fat for fuel can be a game changer for these low intensity ultra distance events. If you’re doing events that are high intensity like a road race for instance, then I can’t see how this would be beneficial. If your objective is purely weight loss then I don’t think this is necessarily the best route. At the end of the day, you need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. You don’t have to do this by fasting 18 or 20 hours. The best diet is the one that you can sustain. And most people cannot sustain IF or a low carb diet. It’s fine for a month or two but then they tend to resort to old habits. Just eat healthier, reduce your portion size and track your calories. Once you get into that habit, you will get a better understanding of what food works for you.
  14. WTF is that? 🤣
  15. I think this was what they did last year and no one could catch him. At least, that’s what I hear. This Kelson oke was the talk of the town with his strength.🤣
  16. I also think the CAT3 bunch was much larger than expected because most of the cat 2’s did not want to ride an extra lap. I think WP cycling are hoping that at the next race, a lot of the cat2 guys will go back to riding cat2 which then obviously weakens the cat3 bunch.
  17. I think people are basing this off his results last year where he obliterated the field at every race.
  18. Because he wants to win. Let’s be honest here.
  19. People have been dropping down groups all the years to ride with mates. This is nothing new. Most of the lower groups are all about wheelsucking anyway. And if there are stronger riders there to help push the pace, then it means more wheelsucking so win win really.
  20. Many mtb’ers dont ride with lights. Many mtb’ers wear black as well. You should ask them the same question as well.
  21. Will keep that in mind.
  22. Not gonna lie, I was so tempted to jump into that river on Saturday. And then I just thought, the more time I waste here, the more time I have to spend in the sun. Then proceeded to waste 15min at the last water point anyway.
  23. The Slanghoek route has a mini climb in there. Enough to at least cause a split in the bunch I think. Still not really a climbers course but there is more elevation. I am concerned though about that low lying bridge on that route just before the climb. Last time I went over there it was in a terrible state and full of potholes.
  24. Okay so if the weather is anything like it was this past Saturday, i am pretty much screwed. Let’s just pray to the weather gods for some decent temperatures. Tall ask i know in February and in wellington.
  25. Great event. First time riding trails in that area so was a treat. I started in E batch as this was my first taste so there was traffic to deal with but nothing major i feel. The first 15km was great as it allowed the bunch to spread out nicely. Very Rocky area though which caught me by surprise. But it was great as it allowed me to sharpen my skills a bit. My only complaint, not really a complaint but more some feedback is to have registration the day before. That wasted a lot of time I felt. And then definitely an earlier start in summer. The elites started at 6:30am. A half hour earlier start in summer makes a massive difference. People were swimming in the river there just to cool off. It was boiling.
