  1. Now this is not the kind of income statement I would like to put my signature on. Personally I would like a bit more clarity on things like "Sport Expenditure". I am hopeful that 2018 will look a lot better and a lot more transparent. I am not exactly sure, but to me the bad debts just represent hopeful income provisions that never materialised in previous years, and some real bad debts. I do not have the facts however. Cannot wait to see what CSA have managed to change and improve on in the last year.
  2. I suppose that can be seen as a solution to the problem. Sort of like saying I will not vote untill there is a new president or the oposition is in power. It could even work out for you, and it does create pressure if they know they are not getting your rands. You do have orher options to support cycling and SA talent. Just please keep doing so while someone else tries to create the change you are patiently waiting for. Who was this volunteer Treasurer at CSA? Is the person still there?
  3. Please send a link, I do not recall seing any volunteers to get involved al Local or regional level. I am sure we can put them in touch with their region. Everyone has a master plan but surely they need to proove their worth at local level first. If they have a track record at local level, I am sure CSA will gladly consider any offers.
  4. Final program will only be ready on Friday and is dependant on the number of entries, but there should be some youth racing on both Saturday and Sunday. Youth racing will not be part of Inter Provincial. Youth entries are reduced to R50.00 for all entries until 7 Nov and R150.00 thereafter.
  5. almost 10000 views I need to start doing some real work now.
  6. This is not Exclusively a CGC problem, most regions have vacant positions and that has a huge effect on the amount of progress that can be made in a year.
  7. Definately more that are willing to give time. Everyone is trying to keep their own lives/business going while doing what they can. We are almost at the next AGM, We are almost at the next AGM, it would be awesome if all positions can be filled with individuals that are willing to give ample time. I doubt that it is going to happen. Only 3 of our current Exco were voted in at the previous AGM. The rest were dragged in as soon as they showed the slightest bit of interest.
  8. Everyone already giving as much of their personal time as they can afford (some more than others) and do not want to take on more responsibility. Not willing to spend more money on a web site. Can contract someone to do this, but that will just take money from us possibly assisting a rider in the future. So we do without. At least the contact details on there is up to date so our members can get hold of us and we answer the phone and emails. More than what some other regions can say at this point in time. Bottom line is that there are very few takers for positions where your own resources must be used and your personal time must be given freely. We can go back to spending loads of money on admin and General management and do nothing much for cycling like in the previous couple of years. Problem is that you old dogs have seen this movie before where things get fixed and slowly go down the tubes, then get fixed agaain etc etc ......... Now how did this morf into a CGC discussion?
  9. That is what we have, still needs someone to do the work. Very easy couple of hours per month. You volunteering?
  10. I also went to Central Gauteng Athletics and right at the top of their latest news you will find: 2017 City 2 City Marathon Cancelled Maybe regions should rather not have their own web sites, what do you think? Personally I prefer communicating on this kind of platform. I have made so many friends here
  11. We are incredibly lucky to have a sponsor like Spur that has made a long-term commitment to mtb at schools level. Now we just need someone to step up to the plate with regards to road (criterium racing) and track and the future of cycling in SA should be rosy again. You will have to go a long way to find an organization that has as much clout and momentum as schools cycling has.
  12. Hi Scotty This is a new site as the previous one was costing us a bunch of money and not much was happening. We will gladly accept the services of an individual that is willing to run the web site and post regular content. This needs to be a free service of course. If you need any CGC info, just email us at admin@cgcycling.co.za or call Deneye at 011 782 1393
  13. Schools cycling got off the ground very much on their own steam and by their own efforts and if I understand the past correctly, relations with CSA have not always been that rosy. I understand that things have changed and at CGC we talk regularly and see where we can align our efforts when it comes to youth cycling. We have had to make the effort o attend schools cycling events and to understand how they operate and the incredible momentum that they have at schools cycling. There is a common goal to develop youth cycling in SA. Guys get together here in our region talk about development, see where we (CGC) can support or where efforts can be aligned. It is a schools program and very much outside of the sphere of CSA and UCI. Our rules do not apply and that is mostly a good thing. I do not think that Schools cycling needs CSA as such, but they are also not silly about things and understand that we all have a common goal and can help each other and should not exist completely in isolation. You should talk to the CSA rep in your region or the local schools cycling body in your region there may be a lot more happening behind the scenes than what you are aware of. IMO CSA and cycling in SA is learning and benefiting a lot from schools cycling. That is a good thing and should allow CSA to focus their limited resources on Junior and elite development. CSA regions are however still very focused on the youth and development and my region spends a big part of its resources on youth development, coaching etc. Most regions have a form of youth program besides what happens at schools level. There is a lot more that can be done, and the programs are very much driven by individuals within the Exco and associated clubs. No there is not a master plan that is being delivered and driven from national level.
  14. WELCOME TO SOUTH AFRICAN SCHOOLS CYCLING Taking cycling to Schools Extract from Home page of SA Schools Cycling (SASC) This website is the home of the official schools cycling body fo South Africa. The body will represent the sport in four cycling codes; road cycling, mountain bike (cross country and marathon), track cycling and BMX. S.A.S.C. or "Sask" is affiliated to Cycling South Africa (CyclingSA). The aim of this body is to present cycling to schools and thereby introduce and grow our sport amongst school kids.
  15. http://www.saschoolscycling.co.za/ https://www.cyclingsa.com/about-us/ Deon Steyn From SASC is clearly an Associate Member of CSA and has been for some time. So the way I understand it. SA Schools Cycling is an associate member CSA.(Or something like that) CSA and the regions get no fees or funding from them in any form as far as I understand, no sanctioning of events etc. All falls under the School Sports umbrella, the schools make a bit of money by hosting events etc. I am not sure about other regions, but at CSA level and in Gauteng we have a very good relationship with Schools cycling and I know that CGC support and interact with schools cycling on a regular basis. I believe that schools cycling is only just getting started and will still grow to much more than the current Spur mtb league. In time you should see Road, Track and even BMX growing through schools cycling. Schools are starting to play the roll that clubs did for youth development and racing in the past and it is only logical to think that it must grow into all cycling disciplines over time.
  16. Development starts at clubs and schools, then regions and from there CSA get involved more at the High Performance level. That is why more than half of the income goes to regions and why there is a national cycling academys program etc. Best will be to ask your region what programs they have for development and what clubs are actively involved in development. Suport those clubs if you can. These programs mostly rely on parents and the like that volunteer their time. That is why schools are such a good development base for mtb at the moment. the svhools system manages to get lots of parent involvement. All of this happens with the help of and some guidance from CSA. Also support schools that recognize cycling as a sport equal to Rugby or athletics. Kids tend to be drawn to sport where they can get recognition.
  17. Had a very pissed off young man after coming 2nd in the 20 km by a couple of meters because he had to turn around twice while he was way ahead of the pack. Was wondering why the road ranger was chearing him on so much, poor guy must have felt a bit bad for the lighty Not even that nice trophy could put the smile back on his face. All part of learning that life is not always fair and you gotta roll with the punches. My suggestion would be to turn the 20km into an U13 and U11.event. Everyone can ride but only U3 and U11 get podiums. Some mtb races like the USN do that with their short races and it definately draws the youths. And make that prize giving earlier if you want the parents to hang around. We will be back.
  18. so who actually maintains this awesome piece of cycling heaven for us so we can just go out there and enjoy ourselves. For free nogal
  19. R250 a year for a membership? and that includes some medical cover for that day that things go wrong. But day license is also ok, 2/3 of that goes to your region and not to CSA as such.
  20. Race organizers hide behind the "We are doing something for Charity" banner. So how do races like 94.7, Tswane Classic, Carnival City, Cradle Mountain Trophy, Wilro Lions cycle Challenge, to name just a few in our area still manage to support their charities as well as CSA. Personally I will not support a race that does not support CSA(And their local regional body) To me they are saying, we like to make money out of cycling, but we do not care about the organised side of the sport and about our elite cyclists that have to self fund, or development of cycling for that matter.
  21. I think that CSA is managing to draw attention to the sanctioning of races. And the guys here on the hub are playing their part. The fact that many races are not sanctioned, this is not always highlighted by race organizers and 10,000 odd CSA members do not always think to check. Only when they have a crash and want to claim do they realize that they are not covered because races are not sanctioned. Or when they get fined, I would not be surprised at all if Licensed riders enter a race thinking that it is sanctioned and then get a nasty surprise from CSA. Also draws some attention to the value of a CSA membership (Not a racing License necessarily) All in all, good PR and marketing for CSA I think. The effort of dishing out a R750 fine and suspension is surely not worth their while when you think of the time and effort that goes into the whole process
  22. Can tell you from a region like Central Gauteng that revenue is down almost 40%. on 2017 With the numbers significantly lower than in previous years, race organisers are finding it tough to turn a profit and will start looking at ways to cut costs. One of these is not to sanction and give CSA their cut. Other race organisers will sanction and will then drag tbeir feet when it comes time to pay over day license money and levies. Things are just simply tough out there at tbe moment and sponsors are not so easy to find.
  23. No Idea I do believe it will be quicker than laat year It does look like CSA admin is improving Can only wait and see
