  1. Is this a 88/89 Giro ? I took this bike over from my Dad recently. He bought it in 95/96. SLX tubing. Came with a 8 speed Campag Avanti groupset and Shimano BB. So I’m thinking a NOS frame lying in the shop fitted with later kit. According to what I can find , looks like Mondiale , Superleggera and Giro , all the same frame with different paint and group sets. Any other ideas / info would be appreciated. Can’t find too much on the net.
  2. Raced one of these in the early 90s ( a red one ) . Always regret selling it . A great bicycle !
  3. No Not in person - just his music.
  4. A Colnago for a wet day. In anticipation of a wet summer and lots of rainy days , I spent an enjoyable morning with Andrea Bocelli , assembling an old Mega Master. A mix match of old 9 speed Campag parts paired with some Mavic Aksium wheels . Bright colours should hopefully be quite visible on a dull day.
  5. A couple of years ago , I went over the bars and the bar end ripped a blunt hole in the top of my thigh . Luckily missed the Femoral artery . Took 3 months to heal completely , this with a bar end in . I hate to think what it would have been like without bar ends ! Was using hard clamp on bar ends which may have exacerbated the situation . These days I use a softer bar end with a slightly more rounded profile .
  6. Very sad to be missing out .Hope you guys all have a great time and hopefully see you next year .
  7. A Classic Bicycle Needs a Classic Saddle ! This South African built 80s Peugeot Classique hadn't been loved for a long time but that's about to change. A light but durable Tange steel frame with enough clearance to mount some bigger tyres makes this an ideal frame for L'Eroica. This Classique has a typical 80s mix of components . Bullet proof Mavic open 4 CD rims are laced to a set of Suntour Superbe Pro hubs. Suntour Cyclone derailleurs and shifters matched to a Stronglight chainset makes up the drivetrain. Lightweight CLB calipers will take care of the braking but need to be matched to some as yet unfound brake levers. These are to be mounted on a classic combination of Nitto bars and stem. A fine Brooks saddle for all day comfort , would be the crowning jewel to make this Classique feel loved again !
  8. Help needed with identifying the age of this frame. Internet has failed me. Most sites about Colnago say 2000s for the Mega Master but I am not convinced. It is Columbus Altec tubing and has a 1" threaded Time Colnago fork. I am thinking this frame is late 90s but would like to be more precise if I can. There is no kit on the bike to give an indication of age as it had been bastardized as a commuter with a mish mash of parts. Any input would be gratefully received.
  9. Bar tape came from Cyclelab in Fourways . Not sure who makes it but I think it may be ITM .
  10. Christmas Bianchi project complete . 94/95 Bianchi Columbus tubing . I didn't have any 8 speed kit , so it got 9 speed instead . Will swap out the wheels for early 9 speed when I get a cassette lock ring . Time for a test ride .
  11. Looking for some brake levers for my Peugeot Classique . Shifters and derailleurs are all Suntour ( mix of Superbe Pro and Cyclone ) .Brake calipers are Clb . Looking for some suitable non aero brake levers
  12. After hearing about the local L Eroica next year , I decided I needed a local retro ride . Found this cool Peugeot Classique yesterday . All original except for the brake levers . Needs some love , especially the paint which is quite badly damaged in places but excited about the project .
  13. Hi Kamaalo , none that I know of . You are welcome to come and visit me if you want to have a look at some bikes but I am some way from Durban . If you flying its really out of the way but if you driving you will come past if you go via Bloem .
  14. Thanks HeyYou . Just checked them out and their prices are quite reasonable . Most importantly , they have what I need . Will wait to see if anything pops up locally
  15. Looking for an early 9 speed Campag lockring . The thread size is 26mm . Later 9/10 speed was 27mm . I don't mind what size small sprocket it is for . Hope someone out there can help . Thanks Rolf
  16. I may be wrong , but I think this is an SLX Spiral Conic
  17. So normally I would always try to preserve the original paint , but here I have a dilemma. The Colnago is a Superissimo SLX with a ghastly re spray. It originally had a Retinato paint job like the photo. Not sure how much this would cost though and who would be capable of doing it for me. I had thought to maybe go with a single colour like Sarroni red . The Pinarello is Columbus SL Treviso. Paint is original but like many Pinarellos of this era , has lost its decals. The quality of the original paint job is very average and as you can see on the top tube , has also started to flake. Am undecided whether I should try to preserve and touch up the paint here , or undertake a full re spray.
  18. I think the Simplex retro friction levers were the best Downtube shifters ever made.
  19. On that topic , I am looking for a Mavic crankset 172.5 and a pair of Mavic Modolo brake levers to complete a Mavic groupset for my 979 Vitus .
  20. Agreed. I really like the Capella lugs
  21. I bought the Carlton but haven't seen it yet. It is still at a mates house in Jhb. Am really looking forward to getting it and rebuilding with some period correct kit.
  22. Thanks for the kind comments about my wife's garden. I have always wanted a Master but have yet to add one to my collection. I raced a 531SL Peugeot and a SLX Moser but the bike I really wanted and couldn't afford back then was a SLX Master.
  23. My Colnago's . A Dream with 9 speed Athena. My first Colnago, a Titanio with 10 speed Chorus and my favourite , the C40 with 10 speed Record
  24. The Veloce BB has the appearance that you see in your photos . It looks a little like a rosette with those little cutouts all the way round . The Record crank has a different configuration of the chainring bolts compared to other Campag cranks. On the Record crank , one of the chainring bolts is located behind the crank arm , while with all other Campag cranks , all 5 chainring bolts are visible.
  25. That is a Veloce bb and the drive side crank looks like Veloce as well , so the damaged record crank is not original.
