  1. Killarney evening hosted by Astra Pro Cycles is on for this Tuesday so if you want some safe training with like minded folks, be there 17H00, pay the R 10.00 bucks and cycle till 19H00 or light fades. Contact Gerard on 021 557 4660 for more info.
  2. Wish I could say the same. Took me from 16H11 to 16H20 to verify my details, then till 16H33 for Kerri's details before it would let me finalise tour tandem entry. Plus 22 mins. From there I went to the 94.7 site to enter on half a bike and only took from 16H39 to 16H44. That's 5 mins for one entry whereas on Argus site took 9 mins and that did not include the credit card side of the business which I put at plus 2 mins.mdk5552006-09-02 09:55:17
  3. Just pay for to be sent it to Japie at Union Cycles in Cape Town as he turned my 4 year OCLV into a brand new bike. Mark of Marks Bike shop also does a great job but then again he too is in CT so best is just move to the Mother City.
  4. In Table View - Driftwood is king and some Saturdays they accommodate 40+ Outriders without blinking an eye. Bottomless coffee, 2 eggs, bacon, tomato, toast, jam = R 25.00. Otherwise most Mugg and Beans are great especially the one at The Paddocks and HOC. well on this Sunday on doing a call from the bike about 15 mins away told us that 12 was "too big a group" for them too handle.

  6. Thanks Big H
  7. Thanks Gift. - I launched TCSA (TandemCyclingSA) to promote the sport and break down any associated fears. It is also my intention to form Club TandemCyclingSA later in this year and have representation at Provincial level as the numbers warrant it. My database for Cape Town is over 100 tandems and my estimations based on attendances at major rides is that there are about 600 ? 800 active tandems teams. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> SA?s? Cannot answer that one but I can tell you that I have sent CSA a friendly letter from TCSA expressing my disappointment at the cancellation and my willingness to ensure that this never happens again by using TCSA as body to represent tandems in South Africa. CSA answer, not yet as I letting the new committee find their feet and will be following up a little later.
  8. Howdi Double the Fun Lovers. Just asked by a leading mag do to an article on transporting tandems to and from bike rides. I need some feedback + pics on how you tpt your superlong bike to local and away funrides. Pics and stories can be sent to mdk555@netactive.co.za Full credit for contributions will be given.
  9. Below is a piece that I copied from another thread to which I replied. Seems like I really get the tandem product bit on www.tandemcyclingsa.co.za up and running.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> My honest 5 cents is that the Titan is a great entry level tandem (one of my friends and fellow Outrider member has one). The next step up is the <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Raleigh or my choice is the Ravo which comes standard with Uletgra shifters, carbon cranks, carbon fork, much more and some great accessories. The only real upgrade that I did, yep I own one was better saddes. The thing that really blew me about the RAVO is that it can hold 5 cages. I also installed the side mount cages which means that the bike can easily carry 5 750ml bottles and maybe the biggest plus is that the guys at Cape Cycle Systems went out of their on 2 occasions to fix my baby when things went wrong. Price wise - shop around as i have seen for sale anything between R 10 000 and R 14 000. As for sizing check http://tandem-fahren.de/Mitglieder/Christoph_Timm/WeightDist ribution.html As for www.tandemcyclingsa.co.za - got some amazing racing pics and will post them as soon as I figure out how too. Even got a pic or two of Big H
  10. Spoke to Rodger about it some time ago and he said that in the beginning it is tough but no diff to jumping onto a tandem or a motorbike for the first time - the more you do it the easier it is. The way I understand it but 70km's on the flat is a norm which means that they could outgun the elites. Hills are a little diff but it all depends on your legs (in ACT 2005 more tandems did sub 3 than half bikes), downhills... well they can be supa-scary. There are not many around (I have no more than 3 at Cape funrides) but as with anything the more we talk about it, the better the chances of us seeing more on the road. I would be keen to try one.
  11. Be enlightened and check out Odds 'n Bobs in www.tandemcyclingsa.co.za and get of hold of Rodger as he is a keen recumbent man.
