  1. I've been living in Rotterdam for 16 months, drop me a PM and I'll try answer any other questions. Unfortunately I haven't cycled much since moving here besides my daily commute but i'm planning on buying a road bike in the next couple of weeks so I can get back into it. At the moment I commute on a fixie that I bought online from http://www.beastybike.nl/. If you are planning on getting something nice I would suggest you try keep your bike inside at night or invest in a really good U-Lock. Commuting is a absolute pleasure because of the abundance of bike lanes, I cycle around 15km to and from the office and not one bit of my ride is shared with cars.
  2. And cue the classic South African "get out of jail free card"
  3. Have a look in the classifieds, I think I saw a well specd out Santa Cruz highball Alu around that price. If you are set on a new bike then I would go with the sola 1, awesome ride with great specs. Good luck mate.
  4. +1 for Ride In. It's on Jonkershoek road a few Kms from the reserve gate
  5. This seems a bit petty. The guy stopped and said he would pay for any damages and you still ran straight to the police station to press charges. It could have been a lot worse but it wasn't. I say count your blessings, build a bridge and ride over it.
  6. I think it was Jetline action photo, I saw a guy handing out business cards at the finish. I thought the event was cool. For some reason I really struggled on Friday, my legs were cramping from about 40km so that made things quite interesting. Goodie bags were a waste of time but that is pretty standard with most races. Water points were good, Could have done with a coke though at 1 or 2. Overall I thought it was good. i'll be back again next year.
  7. You can't go wrong with the Silverback. Most guys I have ridden with that start on a 26" end up moving onto a 29er in the first few months.
  8. If anyone has a entry for the 3 day I will gladly buy it from you. 0835897971
  9. Welcome:)There's tons of trails in the area, I wouldn't suggest riding them alone though. I ride from Eagle Canyon most week days around 5 (around 25km) and the weekends I do longer rides. You're more than welcome to join me on some rides. My number is 0835897971
  10. It is a bit of a tricky 1, some people waited for hours in a online queue so it does feel like a bit of a kick in the nuts to sell them at face value but at the end of the day the rules state clearly that it is not allowed. R3000 is ridiculous though.
  11. I know this has probably been covered before but I couldn't find any associated threads so what is the general consensus? I just came across an advert in the classifieds where a guy is selling 2 X Cape Town Cycle Tour entries for R3,000.00. That is a pretty large profit. I went onto the website and it is clearly against the rules - "Substitution Procedure Rules: (this applies to both the new entrant and the entrant withdrawing) 1. The entrant withdrawing will not be refunded his/her entry fee. 2. The entrant withdrawing may ask for the substitute entrant to refund their entry fee but they may not ask for more than they originally paid.PPA members paid an entry fee of R400 and non-PPA members paid an entry fee of R430. 3. The substitute participant will be issued a new number in the start group for which he/she qualifies. 4. Should the substitute participant not have their own RaceTec chip, they will be required to purchase one." What do you guys think?
  12. As far as I know they aren't using Decca anymore. I think they have moved to a brand called bio racer. When I requested the new pricing for the club kit it came back a lot more expensive than last year. initially I joined and it was R1,200.00 and this year it is close on R2,000.00. In terms of the Decca kit, I have 2 pairs and they are super comfy. My only problem is that the legs lost their elasticity after a few months. If you are joining a club for the kit then maybe have a look at bionic cycling, they also use Decca kit and it is a lot cheaper than Bryton USN, They also do a lot more in terms of group rides etc. If you are just looking for a awesome set of kit without having to join a club then PM me, I could possibly help you out with our corporate kit which is amazing quality at a great price.
  13. Fair enough. Personally though, there are certain trails around my area where a 32 would probably be a bit furious for me and I would really struggle up steep technical climbs so would it not be better starting out with a 28 or 30 up front? I'm definitely no expert on this topic but I really think at certain times I would miss my Granny gear, especially when I had just started riding.
  14. Personally I would go with the Pyga, the only problem that I see is that 1X11 can be a bit of a killer on new legs. In my opinion you would end up having a lot more fun on the Pyga while the Spez would be a faster bike so I suppose it comes down to what you want to be doing on the bike. The addition of the Dropper post is also a big plus in my books. I have been using my Reverb for 3 months now and it really does make riding a lot more enjoyable.
  15. This kind of thing honestly makes my blood boil. With the growth of the sport it is inevitable that we are going to start sharing the trails with the "lesser spotted asshole" and I think the massive growth is a double ended sword. I personally love that the sport is growing but it is douche bags like this that can really spoil it for everyone. It is also spilling into the races where guys are competing heavily for 1253rd and 1254th position overall and in the process are acting like complete douche bags to people that are just out for a bit of fun.
