  1. Jaco

I dropped my 2014 Giant Anthem Advanced, large frame 29er, off last week at the bike shop to sell. It is in that price range. It is going with a Garmin 800 and a extreme lights XP7 which is new. You would just need to see if the large frame is ok with your height of 1.78m.

The bike also has a Rock Shox reverb stealth dropper post on it and Racing Ralph tubeless tyres.

Drop me a mail if you are interested.

I am waiting for the 2016 Anthem.

  2. I have had that problem twice with wearing socks that were too thick.

First one at Cullinan last year where I got hot foot in one foot with 19 km to go.

Then again at the MTN crater cruise also last year where I got it in both feet with 30 km to go.

That is painful stuff. It becomes a battle of mind over pain.

I now only wear thin socks to stop the tight fit.

  3. I think there was one girl that i think got a lift from the tail car. i think she said her legs couldn't anymore.

I know that feeling of hitting the proverbial wall well.

Problem when i hit it is that its normally in the middle of nowhere and there is no tail car. I normally make all sorts of promises to the good Lord if he can just get me back to my bakkie at those times.

  4. I went with the rockshox reverb stealth in November last year. Money well spent. It was not cheap but after that first ride I forgot about the price.

That came with the handle bar remote switch. Remember with the reverb you must tell them whether you want a left or right switch for the bar.

  5. This happened on the 1/1/2015 at 8h00 in Village rd Bluehills.

He was attacked by two guys with big knives, they took his bike, Garmin edge 810 and the sensors that went with the Garmin.

The one guy punched him in the face and started walking away with his bike.

The second guy wanted his cell phone that was in his pocket.

He offered to give the guy the cell phone but the guy told him to lie on his stomach on the floor and that he would take the cell phone himself out his pocket and then kill him.

It was thanks to 3 black ladies that lived on a plot that saw what was going on and started screaming and making one hell of a noise that the guys fled.

I saw another link to this incident on facebook which is how I got these details.

  6. This one popped up on my FB feed this morning. He can be glad he didn't end up in front of a car.

That guy was lucky, big time. Had he been 2 to 3 seconds later that car may well have gone over him.

Just goes to show that falling can happen on a fairly straight forward piece of sidewalk.

  7. Reminds me of when I first got my bike.

Had never ridden with cleats nor had I been on a bike in 20 years.

I rode out my gate and went down the road and started going up a hill. Well not very much further up that hill all those gears were not helping and my legs started getting tired.

Up ahead was a guy stopped on the side of the pavement looking at me. I thought if I can just get passed him and a little further along then it flattens out.

Well the closer I got to him the more my legs couldn't anymore and when I was right next to him on the opposite side of the road I went to put my left foot on floor and as I was trying to do that I thought **** this is not working and then realised my foot was still cleated in and went crashing down in front of him.

He looked at me and all I could think of saying was "you can laugh" which he then proceeded to do. I still said to him if you wait here I will probably fall here again on my way back.

  8. Hell Jaco I am shocked.

I also did the Crater cruise in Parys.

Wishing you well and hope you make a speedy recovery.

I have just spent the last 45 minutes reading through this thread from start to finish. This sounds like riding in a war zone.

Ridiculous. If any of these big group rides are planned for weekends to try and weed out this rubbish we will join in to help. From Midrand but will gladly come with to help.

  9. If one comes off on those jeep tracks at the end you will get some serious gravel rash.

When I rode there two weeks back I was on those jeep tracks at the end doing roughly 50 km/hr. I was on the left side minding my own business when two guys came flying past me. I didn't know they were behind me and got such a fright I nearly jumped out my cycling pants.

  10. Road Modders today. I like the new red route.

Rode the red route two weeks back. I also enjoy riding there. It flows nicely. The routes are well marked etc.

One can pick up some serious pace on those last 4 km's before you cross that bridge.
