I almost got cancelled on Saturday morning on my bicycle by two cyclists who skipped a red light as I was coming down the hill into Midstream. They didn't even look before they jumped the light as far as I could see.
First foray through Centurion on the road bike this morning. Fair to say that the Old Joburg road takes some courage and blind faith.
Right...... Here is a question. Please excuse it but I am a complete Noob to riding in SA. When I started riding on the road in Europe (recreationally), I was always taught to always ride two abreast, well spaced when on the road. The logic was that you had to dominate a lane in order to ensure that cars only overtook when it was safe to do so, similar to if there was a slow car on the road. Theoretically, this reduces the risk of cars squeezing past and putting you at risk. What is the etiquette here? I assume from this post that single file and non domination is the way to do it here????

Ha - of no relevance, but I find this hilarious, because up until July this year, CRC was my LBS. Sorry, please carry on.
Hi
I just signed up for the ride and chose Witspal as my group. What do I need to do next?
I took one of my bikes in to these guys last week, expecting at the very least to be replacing my crank (after an incident with a pedal stripping thread) and my BB. Also expected to be spending serious cash in forks. Told the guys that I was anticipating replacing those parts.
Got a call on Friday to say my bike was ready for collection. Total cost R150. They had re threaded the crank, fitted my new pedals, sorted the BB without having to replace and fixed my fork issue. Incredible to find a retailer these days who fixes when they could replace.
Tried the BRB yesterday morning. Thanks. Will try the epic and Cycle Labs rides over the next week or two.
Phew, thanks Wynand, but that pace may be a bit tough for where I am at the moment on a MTB . If possible, I will keep in touch and once I feel that I won't embarrass myself and slow you okes down, I would love to join you.
Thanks
5:00 AM Sasol!
Many thanks , how many and what ability?
Many thanks for the replies guys? Will PM where necessary. Would be really good to set up a weekly ride or two from Midstream as I see a lot of lone cyclists riding around.
Holy Mackerel
Thanks for the response. That's properly put the wind up me. What about riding to and from the barn? Would that be safe enough? I had a bike serviced at epic two weeks ago and they seemed like nice guys, so will try that, although I really wanted to ride from home.
Thanks again.
Hi
We have recently moved to Midstream from the UK. All my (adult) cycling was done there. I am really keen to get some decent rides in in this area, but went out on the road bike once and almost kakked myself with the other road users. Have been out a good few times on the MTB, but have almost no local knowledge and seem to end up in dodgy looking areas every time I ride off road in the bush.
Would anyone be able to recommend a decent route or two for road and MTB in this area? Ideally that would be safe as well. I took a drive to the Big Red Barn yesterday. That looks great and is within cycling distance, but wondering about security riding it alone. Any thoughts?
Sorry to be a pain, but really desperate for some decent riding.

First road race. 4.12, although stopped to assist after a real bad accident, so probably lost 10 minutes there. Took it easy and enjoyed the whole thing. What a fantastic day. The crowds were fantastic and nobody wasn't ready to help at every opportunity. It's been many years since I had pretty ladies rubbing sun lotion on to my neck and face.
