  1. Read up on what you should look out for in a bike and buy second hand (via the Hub classifieds). Bought my girlfriend a brand new Merida TFS300 for R5k on the Hub. Saved about R3.5k!
  2. I have a pair of these: http://www.louisgarneau.com/in-en/product/305569/1487165/MTB/MONTE_MTB_SHOES#third Very comfy and reliable!
  3. I agree with the concern of the costs of races these days. The 35km MTB for the 99ER race in Durbanville is R210. R175 race fee and R35 CSA day license. As stated by someone earlier. It's a better option to join a club and to do weekend rides.
  4. I second the importance of a GAP cover. I had a small OP two years ago and the anesthesiologist charged a ridiculous rate. Luckily I had GAP cover and the portion I claimed from them equaled 3 years of GAP cover premium payments.

    Argus MTB

Was amped to do the Sunday 38km but I was just informed that one of my good mates bachelors would be on the 1st. Don't think it will be a good idea to do a race the next day. Have to be happy to join my girlfriend on the 14km funride the Saturday morning!
  6. Agreed, my MTB insured for R10.5k and is R39pm on my household policy.
  7. I ordered a pair of these yesterday from a LBS in Somerset West. CWC struggling with stock levels in bigger sizes.after the Festive season craze. Saw some good reviews and the only complaint was the ratchet system. Will be my first experience with cycling shoes so let's hope it's a good and enjoyable one.
  8. Hi guys I ordered LG Monte MTB shoes and therefor I need new pedals as I still have the the original platforms on my MTB bike. I'm looking at two options: http://www.cwcycles....-pdm-530-pedals http://www.cwcycles....-pdm-424-pedals Reason why I'm looking at something with a cage is for the ability to ride un-clipped (excuse my lack of correct terms) on technical singletrack and for the odd occasion where I just want take a short cycle to the shops without putting on cycling shoes. Please share your thoughts...
  9. Hi Hubbers On holiday in the Simonstown area and I'm looking for an easy MTB trail as my girlfriend are new to MTB'ing and needs to get acquainted with the sport. I been reading about the safety issues in the Tokai Forest and thus I'm not sure if is a safe option anymore. I don't have a problem to cycle there alone or with a male fellow rider, but I don't want to expose my girlfriend to a possible situation where she can get struck of her bike and get hurt. Would appreciate if someone can give me some tips on some "safe" trails in the Tokai area or maybe some other "safe" routes in the Southern suburbs.
  10. This sucks big time. Been on holiday at my folks in SImonstown for the past three weeks and have been riding the route on a regular basis. It's sad that we need to ride in groups to ensure our safety.
  11. Want to buy new pedals for my Merida 29ER. Which should I buy? Shimano PDM 520 Pedals or Shimano XT PDM 785 All Terrain Pedals http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-xt-pdm-785-all-terrain-pedals http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-pdm-520-pedals Is there a real big difference?
  12. Good day Want to buy a Thule towbar hitch ( http://www.thule.com/en/hr/products/carriers-and-racks/bike-carriers/towbar-mounted-bike-carriers/thule-hangon-972-_-972000) but I have a concern that the licence plate would be blocked if I fit the bikes on the rack. I assume that the traffic blokes can give you a hard time if an object obstructs your license plate. Just wondering if this is a big issue and if so, what's the best solution? I can't be the first one to have this concern. Thanks
  13. Thanks for all your replies...i will trust your advise as well as the bike shop manager. Medium it will be!!! Cant wait to get on the tracks!!!
  14. Hi all I know this topic has been discussed till end of days...but i'm getting mixed info regarding specific frame size for myself. I'm on the verge of buying a Merida TFS 300 29ER and i'm 1.79m. The shop guru tells me that I should go with a medium frame. What would you suggest?
  15. Hi all Would you say a Merida Big 9 TFS 300 would be an ideal beginners MTB for recreational purposes and amateur racing? Can get a deal for under R9k. Could get a TFS 100 for about R7k but I'm more keen on the higher spec 300 if one look at the groupset. Would rather fork out a bit more money to have a bike that would be good enough for at least 3 years. Please let me know your thoughts as I'm not a guru on the tech spec vs price area.
  16. Looking to buy the Merida Big 9 TFS 300. CycleLab has a great special on these. 15% discount. Looking at about R8800 after discount. Would you say it's a good deal?
  17. 1.8m,
  18. Hi I want to start cycling again and I'm opting for the MTB option as road cycling is becoming more dangerous by the day. I'm not a whizkid when when it comes to MTB tech info ect. Some questions: 1. New or second hand? 2. Should I visit a local cycle shop to take my measurements to help me choose the correct bike & frame? 3. Where in the Western Cape would one get the best prices and regular specials? 4. Big Merida fan!!! Any other quality bikes out there? Price range: R4000 - R8000 Please post any suggestions!
