  1. I've used Pratley WondaFix a few times on various pairs. It is strong, and slightly flexible. Shoes continued to provide good service. The soles outlasted the uppers. My "Method Statement": Clean well (Benzine sounds like a good idea), and allow to dry fully. Collect a pair of old large socks (will probably be sacrificed), lots of newspaper and lots of wide cable ties. Do this before mixing the WondaFix. Decide now where you are going to leave the shoe. Do one shoe at a time. Stuff the shoe solid with the newspaper. Mix the two parts WondaFix in a generous quantity. Apply quickly, feeding the Wondafix into the gap as deeply as possible. Remove excess WondaFix. Tighten laces (or whatever fastening the shoe has). Just firmly - Not too tight. Pull a sock tightly over the fully stuffed shoe. Just firmly - Not too tight. Strap lots of cable ties over the sock. Just firmly - Not too tight. Leave the shoe alone for at least a day. Don't even look at it.
  2. In our family we have three MTBs with x10 Shimano. Have used both XT & SLX cassettes, all with XT derailleurs. We work on our own bikes. Seen at least 50000km of use. XT & SLX x10 cassettes are practically identical (ramps, pins, shape, teeth). They are both comprised of sprockets made of one of two different kinds of alloy. Some gears appear to be a harder heavier material. The only (non-)significant difference is the threshold between these two kinds of material. The SLX has more sprockets of the harder material. XT has more sprockets of the lighter material. The smallest sprockets and lock rings are interchangeable between XT & SLX x10 Cassettes. My take on it: With all else equal, shifting feels exactly the same.XT is slightly lighter, but may wear out slightly sooner.SLX is slightly heavier, but will probably last a little longer. We tend to replace with SLX unless we find XT at a better price.
  3. A few years back I went riding with my kids along a river within the Dinokeng reserve. The farm manager warned us "just be careful, sometimes there's crocodile in the river!" I thought he was exaggerating. Two kilometers in, just as we arrived at the river the path drops down to the river bank and turns sharp left. At exactly the point where one might fall into the water, was a proper size lizard facing the trail! We did not come back the same way.
  4. Was there a month ago. The trails are quite well maintained and offer a wide range of technical. Can't remember the length. Probably about 20km if you follow the red arrows.
  5. the single comment on this seems to indicate success https://grabcad.com/library/shimano-pulles-10-speed-1
  6. Thank you Thor for you well-considered reasonably balanced response. Just a few comments on your points above: The organiser seems to be willing to entertain proposals. We intend to frame two of these as "team opportunities” rather than “ïssues”. Some of us are hopeful; let’s see how it goes. The numbers issue in Gauteng appears to have been remedied by splitting the province into three regions. Agreed. This is why simply joining a school team might still be the most effective way of contributing. No-one is asking for a free ride (pun intended ).It is no longer about my daughter. This was the last year that she could still have ridden in this league. Sadly she missed the first regional race this Saturday past. Lord-willing, she will still continue to participate in other smaller XCO races, and some of the bigger Marathon Races. Hopefully other budding MTB riders will still benefit from the positive results of the debate. Our daughter does have younger brothers and sisters. They all ride.
  7. There are a number of schools with only one rider. Allowing a homeschooler to join the loner would result in a team. We know of willing schools of this type.
  8. For Gauteng, your question makes no sense. The rules basically say: there can be no HS participants. There is therefore no way to answer this question. The news did do the rounds in the various homeschooling communities on Facebook. Neither my wife nor myself promoted the calls for a boycott of anything. It is the opposite of a boycott that we are requesting. A public appeal to the organizers who had refused to listen to previous private communications over a number of years. I believe there is good faith on both sides now. We will be meeting with the organizers next two weeks to discuss how to include homeschoolers in future. Let's give this a chance to play out the way it should have originally: with respect on all sides.
  9. Like Eddys are all Eagles. You'll find them in the Sky. (it's Friday)
  10. Good evening! We are pleased to announce that Amarider, the organizers of this league, have contacted us and have expressed a desire for meaningful engagement with homeschoolers. Please note that this was not a call to boycott any of the sponsors. The cycling community would be poorer for the loss of their support. We will keep you updated on how the discussions progress. Thank you all for your support so far. Let's give the organisers a chance to improve this for all parties. And if you were planning to eat at Spur, please do. You might even bump into the Greens.
  11. It has been proposed, and unfortunately rejected.
