  1. This catch-22 is exactly the point I am trying to bring across. When cyclist A won't give way because they are stubborn, it makes cyclist B adapt to survive, thereby applying the same bad attitude to whoever the next victim is a.k.a. cyclist C. As I've mentioned before, give way when someone is faster than you and thereby chivalry will work its way back in and other cyclists will show more consideration when you are faster than they are.
  2. I'll be here all day, and tomorrow.
  3. Any day of the week is a perfect day to persevere, excel and challenge what needs challenging
  4. 1. you are wrong 2. you don't think about things intellectually and with insight, but instead, revert to pathetic, biased, irrelevant assumptions, stereotypes and generalizations (A. an untrue, unrelated, unprecedented bluelightbully reference and B. an attack on all Strava users in the world, which is utterly irrelevant and equally inane) 3. you can't have a civilized dialogue with someone because of point 2 4. in that same race I gave way to other cyclists in similar conditions. In the Scott Ayton race this race, I gave way to a faster rider by going off track, getting smacked with dry branches but it was good sportsmanship on my side, so really, why are you even talking?
  5. How is this made-up bluelightbully reference relevant to the topic? When I compete in a cycling race, I cycle my best. When I am stuck in traffic I am stuck in traffic. It is what it is.
  6. Actually I'm not done. The recent Nanaga inaugural race. I catch up to a female rider before she enters a building we had to cycle through. She is hardly my shoulder height and "drives a 29'er". So before she enters the building I politely ask to pass as obviously im uber nippy on my 26'er. Now try and picture this- a short girl on a big too big for her, trying to get up a single step but she is too tired. Here I am, building up rage because i'm waiting 2-3 minutes for her to get up that step and walk through the building (while im trackstand-rolling my way through) and it would have taken only HALF A SECOND to let me pass and be on my merry way. Don't be scum, if someone catches up, they deserve to pass you and you ought to respect fellow cyclists, even in race conditions!
  7. doesn't sound like you know what half a second means in a race where a very few half seconds is the difference between win or lose, podium or crowdphoto. To be clear, my reply wasn't aimed at you (Thanks Andydude, for helping me avoid this mistake on my part) and thus I realise my reply is out of context here. My apologies good gentlemen =)
  8. when i see chit like this that I remember why I'm not heartwarmingly-welcoming to new cyclists. Give way to the cyclist that trained longer and harder than you did
  9. oh my, may put off studies for a year just for this.... awesomeness!
  10. your actions are commendable and vigilance appreciated
  11. you would get another oscar maybe =\ i wonder how many of adult-accidents happen because of negligence (negligence including me taking out my gun to show my friend- its not for fun, its for extreme cases) On a serious note and in reference to the OP 's question, personally, ideally, although I currently don't but would want to carry one of the machine pistols on a chest strap. Being hidden under your shirt, after they start taking off with your specialized s-works, you unzip your cycling shirt and clean up the trash. just try not to hit the carbon frame again, thats what I wish I had for self defence. Right now all I have is a 10kg bike with plugless bar ends that I can swing like a sharp hammer... sux
  12. No one has been killed yet out of luck. Wait actually, last year someone was followed home on his bike in PE, killed in the house. Earlier this year someone in Johannesburg survived (the bullet missed his head iirc) a shot to the head, but it did hit the helmet. I will kill an attacker in self defence with absolutely no remorse...
  13. lame. The reason i joined the hub in the first place was to contact someone who advertised a bike, which of course i ended up buying for several thousand. Self righteousness costs customers you know. stuff like this is OPPOSES the growth of TheHubSA, just something obvious FYI
  14. Looks like a shotgun with a cycling attachment YEP- I recently looked at the new Specialized ebike model- RRP for something like $6500. I tried finding the web page but couldn't. oh well
  15. Of course, if e-bikes allows people with disabilities or heck, even people who suffer from conditions like asthma to enjoy trails then definitely yes, but I think the concern is more in regards to cases where for instance, people recklessly speed up a climb with the motor etc. etc. etc. - the cases where regular cyclists safety are compromised by reckless etc. behaviour. saw this post after I typed my reply lol Obviously, in everything there is embodied energy emissions. EVERYTHING. I'm saying I don't want some clown blowing filthy black smoke on the single track that I cycle on.
  16. if this restriction was in place I'd never have my s-works now. I'm against the post count idea, but i think the concept can still be incorporated through different means.
  17. Thanks Rudi-H, for the thorough explanation and advice- I appreciate it! I'm somewhat familiar with the Xavier-route and will try map a route. Also thanks GaryvdM, never bothered looking at googles extra features!
  18. driving republic road towards william nicol yesterday and I think it was at the robot of republic and main crossing, saw someone on an mtb with those fat motorcycle-like tyres. Heck, here I am trying to get the thinnest profile possible and he has the fattest rubber an mtb has ever seen. I was so surprised I didnt even look at the make of the mtb
  19. hopefully the HR monitor had built in gps and was dynamically uploading it to strava/whatnot so we can see where their hideout is and BURN
  20. As long as there is ZERO pollution! oh yeah, and wtf, strava will have to add a new discipline to run and ride- motorcycling
  21. I would also like to hear about this polar watch- which model? I'm actually sitting with a booklet of polar watches next to me. The 2 most viable options feature-wise look like either the RS800CX (multisports) or the CS600X (cycling, this one has cadence whilst the other doesn't)
  22. good point, but unfortunately unaffordable on a student budget with an XO groupset will keep it in mind though, thanks! fair enough! it'll also cause insurance premium spike. What I learnt last night (probably all of us could anticipate it anyways) is that people driving cars will rather speed past your right to take a left turnoff as opposed to waiting 5 seconds to pass on your left. *sigh*
