I kinda figure Pep and his team knows a thing or two about closing a season out, so would be very very shocked if they somehow conspired to lose it. Shows one how tough the Premier League is. And no, it's not a laughing matter if that occurs. At least to us Pool fans. And yes I'm nervous about tonight's away fixture against Leipzig. Hoping we can get away with a either a draw or sneak a lucky win.

    GCN+

Part of the reason why I haven't gotten DSTV is that I would basically just be using it to watch sport (not just cycling). I just couldn't justify spending that much on something I wouldn't use often for a variety of reasons but GCN+'s additional content goes into things that peak my interest makes it an worthwhile investment imho.

Frosty posted a link to what we will be able to see in the classics thread. It won't be all the major races iirc but there will be highlights for them.

I signed up yesterday with no hassles.

    GCN+

It's a subset of the GCN app. So download the GCN app, enter race tv and the link to subscribe will be below the first race it shows. Alternatively you can subscribe on the GCN website. The half price offer is for a year's subscription (24.99USD v 50USD) but only being offered until the end of February. If you subscribe for a year in March you'll be paying the full price.

Costly in the sense that if you only want a DSTV subscription to watch sports and pretty much nothing else then the approximately R900 pm is a bit steep. More so given that DSTV doesn't offer a sports only package to my best knowledge. Remember that subscribers to GCN+ will be paying less than half that for a full year for this month, but even if they purchase it next month it's still considerably cheaper than a DSTV one. And while GCN+ is cycling specific all those doccies and interviews and science/tech stuff goes beyond what a broadcaster like DSTV would offer which adds to the value of the product imho. As you mentioned there are other ways of watching the cycling and/or other sports but some of those stray into moral and ethical gray area's a bit too much for me imho.

Dude you wouldn't be wasting money if you sign up. The current doccies alone makes it a good purchase. They have interviews with Canciellara, Andy Schleck and Ernesto Colnago plus the stuff I have mentioned before. As for the racing content, I'm confident that that will grow over time and that more races will be added to the list. I'm just glad there's somebody challenging the monopoly that SS holds on sports and in particular cycling.
  8. 100% the right call. Sagan remains one of the finest riders to watch as much for his entertainment value as his racing ability. His team is being smart in protecting one of their major stars.

    GCN+

So I have subscribed to GCN+ and must admit that I am pretty happy about it. So the racing content might not be overwhelmingly great but I sure it will definitely grow as time marches on. It is, as Frosty noted on the The Classics thread, something that breaks SS's hold on the SA TV rights but more crucially gives us access to them without needing a costly DSTV subscription. The thing that I am most enjoying about GCN+ is the doccies that they have available. I have so far just watched the one on Orla Walsh and it was a very enjoyable watch. There's plenty more including a number of bike packing adventures and one on the Norseman - which sounds like a super harsh version of an Ironman Triathlon but the visuals just looks absolutely amazing. And that's just scratching the surface of what they're offering with more doccies and interviews to be added on a regular basis. I really reckon it's worth the money I spent on it.
  11. I just finished watching the Orla Walsh doccie - probably the best use I made of my time all day, it was really well done. The racing content is a main thing and I reckon the races available to us will grow but all the additional content such as the Walsh doccie makes getting a yearly subscription well worth it. Looking forward to watching a few more doccies as well the races that get made available to us!
  12. Let us know if you're successful in being able to sign up for GCN+, especially if you could do so without needing to have VPN.
  13. Yes absolutely! More especially the monuments!

Personally I reckon it's City's title to lose. They are effectively 10 points clear of Man U if count the game in hand as a W. Everyone else seem to be playing for second. All I am hoping for is that Liverpool remains in the top 4 and have a decent go at trying to win the Champions League.

    Cricket......

Given the weakened nature of this squad and it's relative success it's actually been a pleasure to follow what was happening on the field. Still plenty to work on but there are glimpses that our depth might be stronger than suspected.
  16. Somehow the last weekend of February just can't come soon enough! Can't wait for the season to kick off in earnest!
  17. Early doors for the GC men, so I'll take 18th as a decent start with room to improve. I think most of us are waiting for OHN and KBK and the rest of the classics season to kick off.

And yet we were relatively competitive today despite the weakened bowling unit. Like someone else said we got very fortunate to run out Babar early on so we weren't chasing a much bigger score. A pity that more of our first choice squad couldn't stay after the fiasco that is or was the Australia test tour.

And there goes Miller! Hopefully Klaasen will be a bit better with this mik & moer stuff.

Sjrn: "Just noticed, Malan has a very romantic first name, if read in HIndi. JanneMan, essentially meaning My sweetheart!" Well, in that case it would have to be spelled Jaaneman instead of Janneman. Subtle but significant difference! - Saw this on Cricinfo. I wonder if anyone's told Janneman about this!

And Usman Qadir strikes again! First Malan and now Snyman. Hopefully Miller can inject some much needed clear headed well paced batting into this chase!

    Cricket......

Was watching the highlights last night and Haysie quip about the catches was 'not the South African standards.' But ja I feel the same as you regarding the batting today but during our first innings it was a bit of a mixed bag. Hopefully everyone's learned from this tour. Personally, and this may be an unpopular opinion, I think that we have improved. Not a lot but not so much that we wouldn't have been able to compete against the Aussies had that tour gone ahead. We might actually be closer to turning the corner than what some of us may think.

    Cricket......

If we fielded better and took our catches we would've won this match. It's a tough pill to swallow but that said we actually played well in patches and were competitive for the most part. A couple superstars in the making in Markram, Mulder, Linde and Sipamla (I know he didn't play in this series but he has potential). Let's hope Mark and Enoch and the rest of the coaching staff can help the players build this in to a special squad.
