  1. Hi Quinton the work was done by Johnny Koen's guy in Port Elizabeth. Let me see if I can get details and get back.
  2. My 1982 “Eddy Merckx Professional” Molteni tribute frame is currently in for rebuild. Here are some pictures of the refurbishing process (the forks form part of the chroming batch). In the one “Pre Clear Coat” pic the refurbishing master has the very EM poster in his workshop!) depicting the meticulous refurbishment job. The Zini on the photo is a Zini Record similar to the one that Alan van Heerden. rode.
  3. I agree, good wash and a cobra polish.
  4. Just a heads-up. Drove all the way to Tokia to see this bike. What the ad doesn't mention is that the frame was cracked just above BB and repaired with a shoddy welding job. Also looks like it was resprayed. See the price has gone from R2500-R1500 http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/tokai/bianchi-road-bicycle/1001658347280910015116809
  5. I see it is a bit quiet here on the Retro front so I thought I would awaken things with some photos of my 1984/85 Peugeot Super Vitus 980 also referred to as PSV 10. I bought the bike from a guy who got it from another guy who brought it into the country from Germany. Apparently the parts are all original.I asked him about the reflector and he says this was quite common in Germany in the 80s. Also interesting how the seat post is fastened as on the last photo.
  6. Stunning bike Anton. I am going to research the 650b option for my SS as I have only a few mm clearance using 28mm tyres.
  7. Yes we did and I had a quick chat to you just before the start when I admired those imported tyres on your bike.
  8. Here are some pictures from my Eroica experience. I did the 140 km with my brother Deon. We loved every moment of it and will definitely be back next year. With the legend himself Some running repairs on a loose BB cup. My boet on the climbs.
  9. So let me get this right. You can't come from Muizenberg to Table view for a retro ride, but you can go to Jozi for one. Whats up with that. Enjoy, bring back some Campy from LC.

  12. Was raining a bit here in CT this morning.
  13. We did a Retro ride this morning here in Cape Town. Here is Johnny Koen and Glen. Some of the other old dudes, my brother Deon and I. and we even managed to snap one of the bikes
  14. Which shop, this toppie needs a pair for Eroica?
  15. I have a Campagnolo Chorus drive side crank 170mm but no LHS if someone perhaps have one.
  16. I have not decided on which bike to use for the Eroica ride. My Hansom can accommodate 32c tyres and I have a Peugeot that can take 28c tyres. I am still leaning towards an Italian bike though in the spirit of the history of the ride so I have my Battaglin on standby.
  17. Hi Sven the size stamped on the BB is 60. I will definitely try and get hold of Prof Hauptfleisch. Regards Eric
  18. Hi Sven, thanks for this information. I bough this bike with a mix of components including Sante, Dura Ace and some Campagnolo so I am assuming that it was built up from a frame set. The serial number on the drop out is 532. Regards Eric
  19. So there she is, 1976 Raleigh SBDU. Just finished fitting the Campagnolo Record wheels with tubbies and Zeus crankset. Campagnolo Grand Sport pedals. Very light and rides like a dream.
  20. I got this reply from Neil McGowran an American TI Raleigh SBDU collector: Hi Eric – sounds like you have a lovely frame dating to approx the last 6 month period of 1976. There is no real accurate date timeline for SB frames but I believe 1976 started at about SB600’ish give or take 30 frames. So yours is probably later in that year. 753 was available to the public in 1976 so definitely could be correct for 753. SBDU brackets at this time would have had “Made in England” across the length. Most track BB shells were plain but some may have had 4 slots milled into it. Hope that helps, Would love to see some images. The tops of the seat stays and how they are finished can tell a lot about an SBDU frame and if the head lugs have cut out windows or not. Cheers Neil
  21. This is an interesting find, a Raleigh track frame in TI colours with Reynolds 753 tubing. The serial number is SB1065. I did some research and the SB in the serial number indicates that the frame was built at the Special Bicycle Developments Unit of Raleigh in Ilkeston. The Reynolds decal says "Reynolds Cycle tubing" and "Respray" Anyone have any knowledge on these frames?
  22. Nice, what are you hiding behind the blue sheet
  23. It is a 58. Too small for you, but perfect size for me
  24. So here is my Erioca bike. It is a "Peugeot Vitus". According to the previous owner the bike was built up by Chris Willemse in the early 80's. I got the bike pretty much complete with all the period correct components right from the downtube shifters to the old school water bottle. Unfortunately the hub on the front wheel is broken and needs to be replaced. Apart from the broken hub and a good polish all this beauty needs is the special Brooks saddle to go with the other special components on this bike.
