  1. Has the Epic, or any other marathon race become so easy that a Roadie with virtually no real mountain experience can win? I guess it shows which way South African racing is going, which is a shame, because mountainbiking use to be about skill, but apparently not anymore. Am I the only one thinking this?? PS. Don't get me wrong, the Epic is on my ToDo List.

  6. 4 bar will feel like there are rocks inside your tyres. I got a pump that reads 4 bar when it's actually 2 bar, so it's in my 'maybe I'll fix it someday pile' I run my tubes at 1.4-1.6 front and 1.7-2.0 out back.... 72kg
  7. Catlike ftw
  8. That looks like a big struggle, you've sanded down a section of the tread were the pedal sits when clipped in, but remember that it needs to slide in as well. Personally I would ditch the pedals and go for just the spd type and ride with the shoes when taking the dogs out. Makes bunny hopping over the dogs easier too.
  9. Funny that my '96 DiamondBack Topanga rigid weighed in at 13kg and my everyday bike now weighs in at 12kg, albeit with a bouncy front end... (two broken forks in a year ) I don't think I buy the whole weight issue. I honestly think things were built to last as long as possible, not as long as to make it to upgrade time....
  10. Back when I started mountain biking, let me think, it was back in '94, I rode my bike everyday. I washed it once a week, polished it up to a shine, lubed the chain and off I went. Maybe once a year I'd put new brake pads and tyres on. Every two years or so I'd get a brand new steed, my pride and joy. You know what is strange, I don't recall ever having broken components, broken frames or broken spokes, not even worn out cassettes. At some point I stopped riding when other sports took my interest, but have since returned to the 'trusty' old bike. Problem is, these days the bikes don't seem as reliable as they use to? It's a good week if I can get through five days of riding without braking something.
  11. let me go hide in the peloton
  12. I think the dirt roadies on the 29er wave is killing mountainbiking in this country....

  19. Hey everyone. I'm wondering if those boot mounted bike racks with the rubbers damage the car at all? My car doesn't have a towbar or fold down seats....
