  1. Anyone have a route profile for the 45km?
  2. Yes, there is SAS seeding for the race, I just received the mail from SAS.
  3. Thanks Alot, I will try it out. I don't have a torque wrench, only a torque screwdriver, I will try it with that and see how it goes.
  4. Hi Shamus, Thanks alot for the advice. What grease do you suggest I use?
  5. Got myself a Crank Brothers Cobalt seatpost, and installed it yesterday. There was an extra piece that goes in between the rails of the seat, which I assume is to stop the clamps bending the rails of the seat. Unfortunately I was unable to tighten the torque screws enough to make that piece tight enough. I am worried that I may cause problems if i tighten the screws too much, has anyone else experienced this with the crank brother seatpost?
  6. Thanks for the advice, I have entered for a 45Km on the 22nd June, so I will see how it goes. I often ride alone around the Sunninghill, Paulshof & Kyalami areas (time permitting), but it would be nice to ride with someone every now and then. Let me know and we can make a plan, I may slow you down though
  7. I am talking about MTB races, and I have entered a 25km on the 8th June & then a 45Km on the 22nd.
  8. I have done a few races, but longest distance I have ever done is 35Km (it was a really flat race). I am really wanting to do more distance, and there are a few races coming up with a 45km option, but I am not sure if I will be able to do that distance and still enjoy it. I know that I won't know until i try it, but any advice on how to measure ones ability to do certain distances would help greatly.
  9. I have often been passed by the "Yellow Shirts" going up Van der Bijl Ave, you may have been one of them ;-) Thanks for the info, i will definitely look into it.
  10. Thanks, I am looking at club100, do you have any experience with them?

    MTB Clubs

I am thinking of joining a MTB club, which one do you guys recommend in the JHB North (Sunninghill) area?
  12. Thanks for the reply, but a Wahoo Kickr is R15 000, I could get a really decent new wheelset for that price. I think I will look at a cheap rear wheel, or upgrade my current set.
  13. Winter is almost upon us, and due to work, I cannot really do much training in the afternoons, the only time I get to ride my MTB is on weekends. Last year I bought a Giant IDT, it's not bad, but with standard MTB tyre (currently a Maxxis crossmark) it is extremely noisy, and friction is also a problem. I have been toying with the idea of getting a trainer specific tyre, but then I have to change the tyre every weekend which is a pain. I was alos thinking of getting a cheap 29" rear wheel and putting a trainer type onto that, then I just have to swop the wheel out. What do you guys suggest, Trainer tyre or wheel with trainer tyre?
  14. My first 26" MTB was a GT Avalanche 3.0, and I really loved that bike. What made it such a great bike was that I did not break the bank when I bought it, which allowed me to get into mountain biking. As I started enjoying it more and entering more races, I started to upgrade the wheels, brakes, seat, and shock on the bike. In the end I had a really great bike that was literally bullet proof. GT is a fantastic brand, but I believe Silverback is a brand on the rise, and they are still in the process of making a name for themselves in the MTB business. That is why their bikes are really well equipped for the price. In Dec 2013 I bought a Silverback Sola 1 and have been very happy with it. My advice to you would be if you want a well equipped bike for a good price, then Silverback would be a good choice. If you want a really good bike and established brand with "okay" equipment for the price, then go for GT.
  15. Thanks for all the responses. Looks like Ardent is the way to go, I will set them both up as tubeless as well.
  16. ON my 26", I had a Maxxis Monorail in the front and a Maxxis Crossmark on the rear, and I was very happy with that combo. On my 29", I have got a Maxxis Corssmark for the rear (going to go tubeless), but the Monorails are not available in 29" yet. Any suggestions as to which tyre I should use in the front, i.e. Ardent, Ikon, etc.
  17. Thanks for the offer, but I have just confirmed that I will be able to collect on the morning of the race. Good luck for the race
  18. Thanks a lot, what time are you planning to go collect?
  19. I may not be able to collect my number from Fourways tomorrow, anyone know if I will be able to collect my number at the race venue on the morning of the race?
  20. Thanks for the info, sounds like it could be alot of fun, but also quite difficult.
  21. I have never done any sort of endurance race and have been wondering how it works. Sorry for the stupid question, but how exactly does a 12 hour race work? Does one do laps for 12 hours solid, are there breaks, etc.
  22. Looks like rain most of the week, but set to clear up on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully that is the case, then it won't be a mudbath.
  23. Thanks for the advice, I will try get there early, and enjoy the race.
  24. Thanks for all the feedback, really looking forward to it. I have never ridden at Northern Farms, but I will try get there before the race.
  25. Have entered the Northerns Quicky MTB in March, anyone done this race, and can provide me with some info?
