  1. I am looking at getting a Specialized saddle for my MTB , possibly the Phenom Expert. Where can I get them in JHB?
  2. I am wanting to enter some night events this year, but need some advice on what light or lights I should be looking to get. Should I look at handlebar or helmet mounted, or both? Any suggestions on some good lights that you use or have used?
  3. I have worked through the whole of Dec, and it sucks. Luckily, I have a weeks holiday in Feb, and then again end of March.
  4. I have recently got a new MTB, and have been trying to keep it looking as new as possible. After every ride, I have been rinsing the bike down with a hose (on a very low pressure), then wiping it down with a dry towel. I have been applying lube every third ride that I go on. Am I washing the bike too often, should I be doing it less so as not to cause any long trem damage to the components?
  5. I would also look at a hard tail 26er in that price range.
  6. I agree, there are a lot of really good deals on second hand 26inch. Everyone is jumping on the 29er bandwagon, but a well. Equipped 26er would not let you down.
  7. Hey Hubbers, Anyone know the price of a Silverback Sprada 2, and ashy shops in JHB that May have them?
  8. Hotspot Cycles in PTA have this bike for R15999, but will give 10% discount if you pay cash or EFT. I am thinking of getting one myself.
  9. I did look at the Merida Big Nine XT, but I feel that the Silverback is better equipped. When comparing the components only, the Silverback is on par with The Merida Big Nine 1500, but it seems to me that I would be paying an extra R3000 for the Merida name and possibly the Fox shock. Still, I really do like the frame on the Merida it is really a good looking frame.
  10. Hello All, I am in need of some advice regarding a new 29'er I am thinking of buying: Bike 1, is the Silverback, which is really well equipped for the price. 2014 Silverback Sola 1 at R15 999 Product Description Frame 29” XC Geometry, Superlight, Butted 6061 Aluminium, Smoothweld, Tapered 1-1/8” – 1.5” headtube, 135mm QR dropouts Fork Rock Shox Reba, 100mm Travel, Tapered Alloy Steerer, Remote PushLoc, QR15 Dropout Headset FSA, Orbit, internal Alloy Cups, 1-1/8”-1.5” Rims Stans’s Crest, Alloy 29” , 32H, Stan’s Yelow Rimtape and Valves, White, Custom Decals Hub Rear Shimano SLX, Centre Lock Disc Mount, Adjustable cup and cone angular contact bearings Hub Front Shimano SLX, Centre Lock Disc Mount, Adjustable cup and cone angular contact bearings, 15mm axle Spokes Stainless Steel, Double Butted, Black w/2x White spokes at valve, Red Alloy Nipples Tires Schwalbe Racing Ralph EVO, TL-Ready, Folding, 29”x2.1 Lightweight Stem SBC-SL (Superlight) XC-Forged Alloy, 6 ̊ x ø31.8mm Handelbar SBC XC lightweight Alloy, W: 700mm; Back Sweep: 12 ̊ x ø31.8mm; 6061 Butted Oversized Seatpost SBC Forged Light Alloy, ø31.6mm x 400mm; Black, Black bolts Seatpost Clamp SBC, Alloy, 34.9mm Bolt on, Black Saddle SBC Performance Series, Cr-Mo Rails, Superlight foam padding Brakes Shimano Deore BR-M615, Open Hydraulic System, Metal Pads – M06, Rotors Front:180mm; Rear: Shimano M615 160mm, Centre Lock Shifters Shimano SLX SL-M670, 3x10 Trigger, SLX Grey Front derailleur Shimano SLX FD-M675-B, Double, Clamp-on 34.9mm, Black Rear derailleur Shimano XT Shadow Plus RD-M786-SGS, Long Cage, 10-Speed, Silver Chain Shimano, CN-hg75, 10 Speed Cassette Shimano CS-HG81-10, 10-Speed, 11-36T, Silver Crankset Shimano SLX FC-M675-10, 38/26T, L: 175mm, SLX Grey Bottom bracket Shimano External Hollowtech II Pedals VP, with Alloy Cage, 9/16” Bike 2 is the Merida, which a bit more expensive, but it is a Merida, and some of the equipment is better. 2014 Merida Big.Nine 1500 at R 18 999 FRAME NAME Big.Nine Lite BC-D-Single R12 FORK Fox 32 Float 29 CTD Remote ready O/C (1.5T) - Evo 100 DERAILLEUR REAR Shimano SLX Shadow+ SHIFTER FRONT Shimano SLX ispec BRAKE LEVER attached BRAKE FRONT Shimano SLX 180 mm ice Cen CHAINWHEEL Shimano SLX 38-24 BBSET attached CHAIN KMC X10 10s HUB FRONT Shimano SLX Cen RIM Mavic EN321-29 FREEWHEEL Shimano CS-HG-10 11-36 TIRES Continental X-King 2.2 fold / Continental X-King 2.2 fold HANDLEBAR STEM Merida Pro K OS -16°AD HEADSET Big Conoid A-Bearing SEAT POST Merida Pro H SB0 27.2 mm SADDLE ProLogo Kappa Evo PEDAL Shimano M520 WEIGHT 12.4 My dilemma is that the Merida is better equipped, but is it worth the extra R3000? The frame of the Merida is really nice, and looks like a carbon frame, and I do like the Fox shock. The Silverback is very well equipped for the price, and the shock has a 15mm thru axle. Any advice on which one I should look at getting?
  11. Thanks alot to everyone for their advice and opinions, it has really helped me make a decision. I am going to go with the Silverback, based on Shimano Groupset, and the fact it is R1000 cheaper than the Momsem.
  12. What do you guys think of the two bikes in general, i.e. good buy, component, etc. Should I be looking at other ones in the price range?
  13. Thanks for all the responses. The Momsem comes with Shimano clipless pedals, although I do have a set on my current bike. Both available from the same LBS, and other ones in the JHB area.
  14. i am looking at replacing my trusty old 26" GT with a 29" and it has come down to two really well priced bikes with really nice components.
