  1. If the brake levers feel soft and you able to pull it right down without stopping properly its most likely a cable issue. I had the same problem, make sure your calipers are centered and then play around with the barrel adjusters to increase tension on the cables.
  2. I think all Mavic wheels uses proprietary spokes. Anything other than Mavic spokes won't fit into the hub.
  3. Ha! Glad to see I wasnt the only one getting frustrated with the B bunch. Instead of letting the momentum carry us through from the downhills, guys were pulling brakes and making a noise and then you get that constant stop-go surges which takes its toll on the legs. Also just want to say kudo's to a very very young boytjie riding in our bunch, think his name was Rory. He rode exceptionally well and eventually dropped me and a few guys going through ocean view. Well done boy!
  4. The goodie bag is actually quite nice this year compared to previous years. I'll take the five roses tea any day over the flu tablets they gave last year. (By the way, I would stay away from that energy stuff in the silver sachet, tastes worse than cough medicine)
  5. Popped in at the shop today for a few items expecting not to recieve any assistance as usual. Let me just say I ended up having a completely opposite experience. Was quickly attended to by the salesman (Raymond) who was very helpful and polite. As he fetched stock from the back I was approached by another 2 salesman to ask if I had been assisted. Well done CWC for improving on your customer service, hopefully it will stay like that in future.
  6. I guess its all weather dependent. Last year with near perfect conditions, almost everyone that started in the 1's and finished with the front of the bunch got sub3's. We'll just have to wait and see what the weather man says.
  7. I dont think race results alone will secure you a sponsor unless you finishing top 10 regularly. In todays day and age, I think the social media route might be the way to go. Maybe try and gain a strong social media following and perhaps offer to 'advertise' certain products for would be sponsors etc. Many sponsors will want exposure in return for their unvestment in you. Which they wont get unless you winning races regularly. Check out Raymond Cox on instagram, I think he used to be sponsored by CWC. He would regularly post updates on new kit etc that he was using/being sponsored with.
  8. My guess would be a bike fit issue. Perhaps your saddle is too high causing you to stretch your legs with every pedal stroke?
  9. I've never really had withdrawal symptoms but I think its all a mental thing. I smoke on and off and tend to feel weaker and more lethargic when smoking vs when I stop I feel healthier and stronger. Also once you start climbing the seeding ladder and riding in the front bunches its k@k being the guy gasping for air while everyone is just sitting comfortably. But yah, I agree, taking a puff every now and then is lekker.
  10. I think that bakkie was a white Hilux if im not mistaken. 2 or 3 years ago, they were operating around the Cape Point area.
  11. When buying used wheels this is normally what I do: *Check overall appearance, nicks, scratches etc. *Check nipples and spokes for corrosion or if any has been replaced (ie all nipples and spokes should match). *Check braking track for any bumps, nicks or wear. (Theres usually a wear indicator on rims in the form of a dot in the aluminium. *Lastly check that the hubs match the rims eg Zipp wheels should have Zipp hubs. I've seen people advertise wheels before as Zipp for example but then the hubs are cheap pieces of crap. Remember the hubs are what makes the wheels perform and they should spin freely and smoothly. Forgot to mention, make sure that the wheels are compatible with your drivetrain. If you ride shimano or sram then the wheels must have a shimano freebody. If you ride campy then the wheels must have a campy freebody. Some wheels also, especially the older wheels can only accommodate up to 10speed casettes.
  12. Not saying the bike isnt stolen but do you guys really think a thief/skelem in a hi-viz overall would ride a stolen bike around so casually? And if it was indeed stolen at the time the picture was taken then surely the guy would have been in a rush to get away. A few months ago there was a thread where a guy was caught riding a 'stolen' bike in overalls. Turned out to be a mechanic working from home that was test riding a clients bike with permission from the client himself.
  13. Close call! Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and I actually got pushed off the road onto the gravel. And the thing that pissed me off the most was that the oncoming lane was empty so the driver could of easily given space.
