  1. 2nd one for me, first time 5:12, and this time 4:28. The first 10km's were very hard on me, did not get rhythm and only when on R55 did the rhythm come. Obviously weighing 130kgs did not help on the hills (I did not get off and walk, I cycled, even if in granny gear) all the hills, Steyn City included. The flat tyre did not help 20kms from the finish. But I really blasted down the downhills, clocking 90.4km/hr at one point. Will I do it again? Hell Yeah. What will I do next year different? Do races before the time, get a good seeding (went from JJ) and then get stuck in a bunch. When going so late, there are no cohesion, all just doing their own thing. Goal next year would be loose a shitload of kilograms, do lots of hills and come back very strong for a 3:15 time.
  2. I Saw so. When I looked back, I saw quite a lot that was being sucked along in my draft...
  3. Thanks Gerald and all your colleagues for an amazing race. Great job. Was my first race in a very long time. Started in ML, passed the fallen rider (RIP fellow cyclist, condolences to family and friends) and managed to keep up with ML until about 30kms. Thereafter got dropped, but got onto a bunch from NL into that first part into head/crosswind. Rode solo up to waterpoint 2, then nailed it through Heidelberg. Headwind was not nice for a buffalo like me (130kgs) as I punch a big hole in the wind, but still managed to cross just past 4hrs. Not as fast as the racing snakes, but given that I 1) finished it, 2) with a massive headwind and 3) in a not to bad time for me, I am quite chuffed. Will definitely do it again next year, great race. Thanks all! Now for 94.7
  4. number collected and updated racechip! Cant wait
  5. Awesome. I have exactly the same one, has about a 1000km on it and it is nicely broken in. And it takes a lot of bumps etc out of the trail. Congrats!
  6. Thinking of doing it for the first time in 2017. 54km.
  7. Bought another Brooks saddle. The B17 was transferred to my roadbike, and the B66 (little bit wider with springs) on the MTB now. Comfy out of the box, man I love those saddles!
  8. I am in group MM, 9:32. Focused more on training and MTB, did not do races. However, still aiming for 4hrs, next year will be better. Gotta do some road races so that I can get a better seeding next year. I will see some of you guys there at the end bunches...
  9. Awesome race. Did the 60km, loved the lots of singletrack. Although my legs started cramping at 30, I pushed through. Nice waterpoints, boerewors and beer and coffee etc! Well done to a great race and the organizers.
  10. My friend and I are also going. Great about the notification about the issue with the boards.
  11. I agree. Cant go for long rides anymore, so I stick now to the suburbs and try to do multiple laps to get in the mileage
  12. Bought myself the Brooks FLyer saddle. Bit hard when I started, but after about 10hrs, it is nice and soft, and my ass is not sore, even after doing 5hrs straight on the saddle. Best investment that I could have made on my bike...
  13. That trick is called "friggin Brave" or "balls of steel"...
  14. Was also sick with sniffles with the past 2 weeks. Came to Mauritius for work (luckily my ears and sinuses didnt act up during the flight) and low and behold, I am well today (thanks to warmer temp). Didnt bring my bike, so will do some exercise on the stationary bike in the hotel. But atleast I am well now again...
  15. I see Nature's choice macademia nut butter is on special at Dischem. R73.95 for 410gr jar, was a month or so ago close to R100
  16. I am also in for such a ride
  17. I take my BPC after my training ride, as I like to ride fasting with water. This helps me quite a bit, as I am not in the mood for any food/sugary drinks after a ride.
  18. And I have carb flu today...
  19. Sometimes it is better to introduce some carbs again for a short period, then go on the LCHF again. This kickstarts again the process and you break through the wall.
  20. Hi there I have started on this LCHF lifestyle 2 weeks ago (after I did the 3Mountains stage race). weighed about 135kgs, now down to 130kgs. I have drawn bloods about a week ago (after I have been on the LCHF for about a week). As expected, total cholesterol is raised to 5.5 (I know it is actually a pot stront), but HDL is within normal range and LDL is on upper end of normal range (same it was 2 years ago). Trigs are at lower end of normal range, and I am happy for that. I got the past weekend (after 10 days of LCHF) on the bike (had a bit of a rest after 3Mountains and then a cold), legs felt sluggish and could not cycle up hills. However, just took water this morning on my training (2nd time on bike after LCHF), and decided I wanted to do some hills. First one was bit bad (opening of the legs), but thereafter, I had massive energy and endurance. I felt as if I have a lot more strength going uphill. Normally I would have bonked hard after such a session, and truth be told, I waited for it, but it never came. So this morning, I did a quick 24km ride on my MTB (with 250m elevation, it is not much, I know) at 24km/h average. Just a month ago, I know that that would not have been possible. So what I want to say, I know my body is getting fat adapted. I track my meals on fitnesspal (Fat is about 75%, protein is about 15-20% and Carbs about 10% the past week), and I feel that I am getting stronger on the bike. Cant wait to see where I am in 8 week's time. For me the weightloss is an added benefit, it is the health plus points that appeal to me. Thanks for this great thread, much appreciated.
  21. Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. Have not thought about Monument, but will give it a go!
  22. Hi guys. I am a big guy (130kg's, mostly muscle, played prop). Which tyre would you suggest for rear (have nobby nic in front) 29er bike Crossmark or saguaro? Also, did vitorria buy over Geax? See that they are the same, but the one is cheaper than the other make. Thanks
  23. Evening Gents. What is the situation in Centurion, I am cycling at 4AM in the mornings in the Clubview/ ruimte rd area up to the R55, then to Zwartkops raceway and then back home. Am I daft for doing this, and if so, what other alternative routes could you suggest? Thanks H
  24. Many thanks, it is appreciated KR
