  1. laws will always be broken...and in this country they cant even enforce the real important laws...never mind traffic laws and unfortunately when a cyclist is hit it is probably more due to the cyclist or driver not concentrating for that split second. I was going down a main road with my bike, 2 lanes in each direction. Was doing 30kph+- with my bright yellow helmet, reflective clothing, flashing lights on front of bike, flashing lights on helmet and flashing rear light on bike when a car from the oncoming traffic turned over the lanes right in front of me to try and get to a petrol station...After a second that felts like at least a minute of braking and swerving i slowed down but still hit the car. The driver was really nice and apologised and simply said he didn't see me... now i ask you what else can you do... It unfortunately comes down to how our brain works. The driver is looking for other cars on the road and not bicycles and his brain filters out that which is not looking for without him realising it. Have a look at this link. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/crux/2011/12/14/if-you-cant-notice-a-gorilla-how-the-heck-can-you-testify-as-a-witness/#.VNNHbf6Ud8E
  2. Dont need new sand. Just clean the existing sand. Open the top, put filter on backwash, switch pump on. Stir with a broom handle or your hand. Youll get wet and dirty but will save yourself a R1000. If you have a air compressor switch it on and use the air hose to bubble the crap loose. You can even have a jacuzzi pump fitted to the sand filter to help clean it as a more long term solution without having to get dirty. I own a 32 000L koi pond and use to have a sand filter on it which i had to do that weekly. This is an article i wrote many years ago for the KoiSA magazine. In this folder is a pdf. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwUTQsRpK9hkaGVhUjBSZUZTOEE/view?usp=sharing
  3. Jip, have to spend R 600 to get R300 back. Seeing as i only have options of Argus and Burger. Edit - sorry R400. i see the 99er is on there as well.
  4. I looked at the Q & A section this morning. https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/discovery_coza/web/linked_content/pdfs/vitality/team_vitality/team_vitality_faqs.pdf So far this Team Vitality things looks useless and very restrictive. 1. If you belong to an existing club you have to resign.... Why? What infrastructure do they provide to do your activity in your own area? None... So no more club running buddies no more training groups organised by a club in you area. 2. You can only use the vouchers online... Being a cyclist i already have a garmin so what do i spent my voucher on? I thought ok maybe i can get a vivo fit with the voucher instead but no you cant. 3. The listed events seem very limited. 4. Cash back on events. It looks like i wont get any cash back for events that i have already registered for. Where / How does the PPA fit into this? 5. Only 1 shirt and no way to get a replacement or an additional shirt? Really? I was excited about the Team Vitality offering in the beginning but the more i look at it the more i doubt that it is of any use.
  5. Any quality difference between these Chinese carbon frames and wheels and the branded ones? Wont mind a set of lighter carbon wheels at a cheaper price for my road bike but don't want to risk them collapsing on me. Currently have the factory standard "Merida super Aero 38" on my bike. No idea of their weight. Could not get a review anywhere.
