  1. Anyone from Cape Town doing this one?
  2. Some people care about how others view their integrity and others don't. Could also be with the amount of scamsters around that people just want to seal the deal, get the cash and move on.
  3. You make a valid point with ride a 30k bike 10-20 days a year. As for the training benefit, maybe it will be more psycological than physiological.
  4. Then i will have to wait even longer. I am favouring the Cannondale supersix evo 5 105 @ R24k. Just depends how the Will power goes.
  5. Being the first cycling date, the question is "did you let her beat you?"
  6. That thought crossed my mind
  7. Met a guy on the road today, he said I should keep my 11.5kg tank and use it for training, and when I get a carbon bike, use it on racedays. Is this a wise idea?
  8. Yip, will definitely be the course of action I take. Thanks again to whoever gave valuable advice
  9. Instead of going down vanguard, it would be safer to go down Townsend road, till you get to Liberty Grand, cross voortrekker road and turn left into Vanguard. It will be much easier, because you would have by passed the bus stops and the stretch between Frans Conradie and Voortrekker.
  10. The CAAD 10 was a bike that I was looking at. There is just something about Cannondale that I like.
  11. Well I went with a 58cm on the advice of my LBS. They stated that a size 56cm shouldnt be a problem either.
  12. Would it be a better idea to be a bit more patient and purchase new as opposed to second hand?
  13. -My current weight is 93 kgs(at 1.95m tall). -Budget will be between 18-25k. -I much prefer doing rides of 80km plus and plan to do quite a few of the PPA rides. -My first goal is to do a 3:45 argus next year (Did 4:15 from GC group) I do plan on doing lots of enquiring WRT geometry and set up that is best suited to me.
  14. Thanks for the feedback. Is it fairly easy to spot damages/cracks that were repaired?
  15. Been riding a 11.5kg road bike with shimano 2300 groupset (compact crank and 12-25 cassette, size 58cm.) My neighbour was kin enough to let me take his KTM Strada 5000 ( 7.4kg, Compact crank and 11-23 Cassette, Size 55cm). I found that going over bridges that go over the n1 etc, were much more of a struggle than usual, but on the flats and downhills it was much quicker than my bike. I have a 50km route that I do and bettered my PB by 3 minutes. Could this be the drive train setup, as almost everyone I have spoken to said going up will be easier and I wont descend as quickly. Lastly, what should one look out for when buying second hand carbon? Any advice would be much appreciated.
  16. Its ok, go ahead and hijack if its goingto help the next person having been a weightlifting junkie for years, I realised that feeling good and healthy is way more valuable to myself than a good looking physique. I dont advocate getting as skinny as possible, but rather as healthy as possible. Some are genetically blessed with good physiques and others not. My personal approach is that I will do exercise that will be functionally useful in my life and the sports I do.
  17. I will continue to monitor it, as it hasn't affected my training. In all honesty I actually feel like my fitness level and strength is increasing. Maybe its the excess eating on non training days that is causing a positive effect on my training. Went away for this weekend, ate enough for an army and then went for a 50km cycle that I do often. It was much easier and beat my PB time for that route by almost a minute. Maybe I should just keep doing what I'm doing and see how my body adapts.
  18. Ive been looking at seedings etc, and plan on doing the PPA one tonner, Die burger and maybe one or two long rides. Ive noticed that the times of races in the Stellenbosch area are a bit slower than the Argus winning times and other races around the peninsula. Maybe im observing incorrectly, but are the races in stellenbosch more demanding than the ones around the peninsula area?
  19. Ah ok. Thanks for that.
  20. I have noticed over the past few weeks that on days that I train, I tend to eat less than on days that I dont train. Before cycling, I used to do more strength training than cardiovascular work and I managed to eat similar amounts whether it was training days or not. This is my first real leap into any endurance sport and wonder if anyone else has experienced this? is it a response to a higher cardio workload?
  21. If the pricing was wrong they woulda have made a huge loss at the expo, cos all I saw were helmets being tried on at their stand. Coupled with the good price, they provide awesome, friendly service too.
  22. I got cramps in my calves at the Tour de stellenbosch and The Argus this year, both at the 15km mark. I did manage it though, but its weird as my training buddies have all cramped during training, as in stop pedalling cramps and I for some reason didnt, however come race day they arrive. I just welcomed them, laughed and kept going. Eish
  23. I had a Giro MTB helmet, made me look like those mushroom characters in Mario Bros. The Rapid sport helmet I got as well looks sleek and is very comfortable. Yes it did, he still managed to finish looking like a cool cat, cramps and all.
  24. If its worth anything, My dad bought a Helmet at the expo for R440. Come the Argus, a gust of wind pushed another cyclist into him causing him to go down and hit the road head first. After a thorough inspection, there was not even a scratch or crack, Niks. Best R440 he ever spent, It looks good and well ventilated too. I think it was at the Rapid Sport stand.
  25. This being my first Argus, I didnt know what to expect. I had fun though starting at 9:12 and finishing with a 4:16. Having read majority of the argus related threads about seedings etc, I think that finding a system to work for each individual is very hard to find, and as Skubarra has said, plan your cycling and set a "seeding index" goal, so that you are responsible for your start time come the Argus in 2015. Being my first argus, I dont have any major cycling event to compare to, however I found that the Distance between the hospitality area, bike park and finish area are too far apart. Maybe it is set out like that due to logistics. Can anyone explain why the parking area was vacant next to the finish area? could that space not be used?
