  1. The idea of 35000 people descending chappies towards Kommetjie is pretty scary...
  2. Don't know if it's the same, but I built a bike and flew back to SA with it from the USA. Collected my bike bag at OR tambo and walked straight through nothing to declare.
  3. Does WPCA still have problems "seeding" riders for winter league??
  4. So i'll be buying a power meter soon and can choose one of the following: Stages 105 5700 (with cosmetic damage) - Silver or 4iiii precision 105 5800. The 4iiii has not been around as long as stages and reliability of the product is the only doubt. Im not fussed as to whether the crank arm looks weird being different colours, as long as its funtional.. I can get both at the same price Which one of the two would you choose?
  5. Doubt it. Im willing to give my entry to a friend as I wont be here, but they dont want to do it.
  6. I blame this all on strava WRT establishing ones FTP, would it be better to do it on my road bike with a power meter or on a wattbike/indoor trainer?
  7. Hey Dirtypot, Nate was the rider in the Team Atlantic kit, I conveyed this post to him.
  8. LOL....off topic I know, but had me laughing
  9. If you have a CSA membership, the insurance should cover it whether k2c was sanctioned or not
  10. Have a look at SRAM front mechs too. They will be compatible with the Shimano shifter
  11. They have lots. Most gran fondos(funrides) there arent timed as there is no need to seed riders, the more serious riders are in racing catergories, but most of the time these events arent run together. The criteria to move up in categories only apply when doing sanctioned races, like WP league etc With PPA its not really the same, as is the reason for this thread. 1 Hill climb and you top of the pops. Even if it was just doing funrides, you can do 3 or 4 good times and move up quite substantially.
  12. Agreed, it goes further than just pushing out watts. A noob can join PPA, do a hill climb and get a high seeding due to fitness levels. Again, seeding is just a way of seperating the masses in funrides. Last year when I enquired about racing in the USA, they told me regardless of FTP, training volume etc, you have to start in CAT 5(lowest). To get to CAT 4 you have to finish 10 Mass start events. Then to get to CAT 3 you have to get20 points or have experience in 25 races with a minimum of 10 top-10 finishes with fields of 30 riders or more; or 20 pack finishes with fields over 50. With PPA seedings we have a phenomenal tool to overinflate already inflated egos
  13. Earn the MTN qubheka 2015 team kit on Zwift
  14. In PPA its not racing, its a spirited group ride Haha this is true....at a few other funrides too
  15. If everyone in the group decided to work together and not leave it down to a select few then im pretty sure they can get r. Like at the 2014 West Coast Express. B group times were as fast as A. Too many wheelsuckers in funrides who then have a little sprint finish to top their start group. Hell PPA seeding is just a system to for funrides....dont take it too seriously
  16. For one, the hill climb counted 100% to the PPA seedings last year. Before funrides that met the elevation and climbing criteria only counted 33%. Seeding events i.e one tonner, SCT, 99er are supposed to count 100%. So in essence the hill climb should get the 15% penalty as it doesnt meet the ascent and distance criteria
  17. The Hill climb seeding is just ridiculous. Dependent on which climb they use its a 10-15 Minute effort, then gets a beta of 1.5, whereas Karoo2Coast this year had a beta of 1.06
  18. After riding Campy, Mavics and Fulcrum wheels, the fulcrum racing quattros are the best out of the lot. Only reason I didnt go for the racing 3's was due to price....but im happy with the quattros. P.S. Carbon hoops are good looking, but overrated.
  19. First K2C did 5:28. I have mixed feelings but I guess i'm to blame LOL. Climbing was good, descending was a nightmare due to the fact that Im am still undergoing rehab after a radial head fracture(left elbow). So I took the cautious approach on the descents. For most of the ride I didnt know where I was so I dealt with it as it happened. 3rd time i've been on a MTB ever so i'm quite happy....although my elbow isn't
  20. Im set to leave round about that time, but will be doing the 109km if im still here.
  21. Going up Bothmaskloof when the temperature is soaring....Not forgetting the little bump at knorhoek
