  10. They could have gone towards the Northern suburbsvia N1 via Durbanville and then on to Big BAy area back to town - would have been equally stunning.
  11. Have'nt read all the posts BUT...have any of you ever came 2nd or 3rd behind a known doper or a doper that's been caught out later?? I have ...and when you train your guts out amidst a hectic work schedule it only leaves one with feelings of anger and unforgiveness and NEVER will you NOT think ...is he still on dope or not? So I cannot help but say NO..these guys must never be allowed to race again....this is actually a rather fruitless debate... ...just enjoy your cycling
  12. OK...are you coming down for the race or not? We have an OKTOBERFEST with oompah band and appropriately dressed waiters on the Saturday night...so the ST will be NO PROBLEM for you on the sunday morning...you'll see plenty of trails
  13. Not so - out of context remark - how abt a solution?
  14. I agree with you re your take on aggressiveness. The reality though is that it happens all the time in races and most often being heightened/caused by slower or in-the-way-riders. I am also not condoning the causing of crashes neither am I condoning obstructive riding styles....let's move on...I want practical solutions plse.
  15. I am busy organizing the Voet van Afrika MTB Challenge(19 Oct 2014) and the long route will have abt 35 km of single track(latter part) and part of my briefing I intend to request slow riders to give track at all times. This is a very difficult matter especially where you take part in badly seeded races etc. I have never seen a rider on ST that's holding up the people behind suddenly being blessed with improved skills though the majority all stubbornly ride like they've been cursed with deafness instead - W2W a case in point(and not woman drivers/riders alone ) IMO if you request fairly(twice) and can pass safely but being denied the opportunity then it's up to you what you do next and the rider in front to face the consequences. I will also inform the riders that I will not entertain any complaints re this matter whilst I don't condone people being ridden off the trails. I intend to have enough "move over spots" and see if this helps - something that race oranizers can think of bringing into races. However, having said all that, my sympathy definately lies with the rider being held up - too many people ride races where the technical requirements in certain sections are above their skills level purely because those people have never bothered to go for skills classes or tried to improve their skills themselves. It's a pity that this thread was not as constructive as can be as I was really looking for some more pointers that's helpful. Anyway, plse comment and let's see, cheers, Naas
  16. The opposite is also applicable where, unnecessary DANGER signs were put up and then after a km or two past the "place of danger" you're still wondering when it will come. Firstly, you waste time in slowing down and secondly you start thinking the "danger signs" is a nuisance and then the very next one can catch you out.
  17. Come to Bredasdorp I'll sort you out in a morning - bring old bike, arm and knee protectors and the will to learn ..
  18. Well I must say I've actually learned a lot going thru all the posts and thx to all who participated so far! As an organiser we can never be too cautious with route descriptions and marking of the routes. Having said that, my next race that I am organising (19 Oct 2014 - Voet van Afrika MTB Enduro - yes it will be tough!!) I will cater for all levels with available options to each - needless to say the "chicken runs" are gonna hurt in terms of time taken to complete the race ...back to the drawing board...
  19. See, there you go Wannabee..I want to know from you guys! Give us some grading scale or whatever... By the way, your friends told me it's technical for you to get ON a bike...
  20. I organize MTB races. I want to give the rider an unforgettable experience in terms of scenery, varied terrain, lots of singletrack, a nice challenge to riders of ALL capability/levels and to promote fun whilst riding/competing. Then I get the following question: ..is the route technical? How do you answer a person that has spend R10k+ (in most cases MUCH, much more) on equipment and time and a whole lot other expenses over a number of years yet NEVER took the time to go for a basic course in skills and bike handling - almost like a golfer who never went for lessons and fades the ball for the past 10 years playing off a 24 handicap and don't understand why his handicap is not coming down. To all those riders who complain race after race that it was too technical, this is what you must #*****ing do..... I am the wrong person to answer that question....so hubbers plse assist...awaiting your kind journey into the world of wisdom Cheers Naas
  21. Another 2 hrs to enter guys - thx for the tremendous support sofar!
