  1. Will be doing it , not worried about the elevation , am worried about the wind ....
  2. Seem to recall a number of these kits on the ride....me I am easy to recognize...I am the **** who refuses to use cleats ...long story ....and I like my tekkies
  3. that's cutting it fine, how long is this section?
  4. Have to agree on 3 counts. 1. Well done for a sub 3 hour....that's awesome pedaling 2. The dirt section especially on the way back was very loose, caused some pucker moments. 3. Post race drinks and icecreams were awesome The seeding thing needs work though, I was riding with AL group BL group, CL ,DL , all sorts and we were overtaken by some largish geoups which made it dangerous at one or 2 places. Excellent event though....well done to all
  5. Wind was less than last year ...nice event 3:25 ...had a minor mechanical hiccup so am happy with the time
  6. Lil cold, overcast..perfect conditions ..very little wind at the mo but that will change;)
  7. CL for me 07:51...after my DNF at sun city and HL start at D2D due to late registration I am kinda happy
  8. Weather forecast is cold an windy...major cold front due to hit jhb .....
  9. Regarding the temperature, if over 23 then no wetsuits , unlikely to b e over 23 though but you never know. I swim in speedo anyway so no worries unless it gets below 14
  10. I did this last year, uneventful for the most part but the wind was a factor as others have mentioned...am lined up to do it again come sunday....looking forward to it....looking at the weather forecast its going to be windy ...again lol
  11. getting close now, excited about this event....its going to be top class
  12. Just started, only 2 sessions thus far but will be doing 2 a week for the forseeable future...I need to get more mobility into this body and pilates is the way to do it I reckon. My reasoning is the same as yours, a lil more supple and a little more strength in my core to support my body better on the bike to relieve wight off the hoods ..... also a allow for a better transition from bike to run....am excited about pilates to be honest
  13. Shops and retailers are not obliged to honour a deal at any price including the marked price.... so its only an offer not a commitment. So the shop legally cannot be forced to sell you anything at any price.... however in interests of customer satisfaction its always good to honour a mistaken price...... the price of 0.00 is obviously an error and there is the reasonable man issue..... their reply to you is also a tad shitty though, a simple sorry would be so much better...let it slide, chalk it to experience and don't use them again

I did not pre-enter and just picked up an entry this morning at sportsmanswarehouse....HL here ..7:35.
  18. I am not putting in 15 hours a week at the moment and only expect to get close to those numbers around dec/jan ....I currently putting in between 8-10 hours a week. If I want to finish in 12 hours I need to go 15 hours , with my current regime I reckon around 15-16 hours which is ok...I am doing it to finish it ,not for any time accolades.... Comrades is going to steal a lot of time too and then only running which increases the risk of injuries etc..... I reiterate though , the human body is an amazing machine and if you in a good physical shape and have done training iron man should be doable , of course it depends on conditions on the day too. see how u do at Trirock and take it from there. The biggest error relative novices make at Tri is to go out to hard and come short later on... if u pace an iron man to finish in 15-16 hours I don't believe you need 15 hours a week every week. Tri rock in Durban has a relatively easy cycle course however there is stoll 500 metres of climb and depending on the wind can still be a tough event ...if you finish in around double yr 5150 time i.e. 7.5 hours then with 6 months until iron man I see no reason why u could not complete an iron man.... but lets see what the experts say.
  19. I reckon comrades is far more difficult than iron man.... but I have never done either so take my advice from where it comes. the cycle leg of iron man worries me especially if the wind is about which is very likely ..... I reckon if you dedicated and continue training you should be ok in iron man.... the human body is far more capable that what we think it is.... iron man (in my opinion) is about being conditioned but nutrition and hydration on the day to keep the body moving.......17 hours is moerofa long time too
  20. Midlands now has a new bike route with similar climb to 70.3 so its not an easy event as it used to be. It can also get hellish hot in the midlands but this is good training...the organisers are generally very very good about it and allow ppl to remain on the course and in the event ..the run is in the midmar sanctuary so its safe to carry on ... don't let the hour less deter you ...by end of November you should be in the ball park to finish within 7.5 hours anyway...but let trirock be your guide in this. if u complete trirock within 7 hours or so u will do midlands within 7.5 hours if you continue training ... midlands would be a great event between the trirock and 70.3 ultras... nice vibe in the midlands event too..and accommodation is failry cheap at the resort itself .
  21. Good stuff...see you at Trirock....looking forward to that. then I will do the 5150 in germiston....midlands in November .... may do the sun city one as well..time and importantly money, it is an expensive sport due to the costs and accommodation, transport etc....
  22. Nice one ...... first Tri is always about learning how tri's work, how yr body is working , transition activities etc.... my first tri was not trerribly enjoyable as I was focusing on the processes and procedures of tri's more than the tri itself..... well done, next is is an ultra..... then iron man ..... swim of 27 is excellent hey ..my brother in law who is a long time hard core tri athlete also did around 27 minutes.
  23. the local made up wheels have a rider limit of 210 pounds so depends on what you weigh I guess. I would say the local wheels are the better deal considering the after sales factor, but that's just me
