NF for a noob, it definitely won't be boring for him at all, Green route is a quick 12kms with a bit of everything thrown in, and if he is new, 12kms with a bit of ST and small climbs will be just right IMO...

This ST thing will always be an issue and you will never win at a XCM event, there are just far too many people, so the way I see it is you have to options 1. fight like mad to overtake get frustrated as all hell and maybe make up a minute over 5kms or 2. sit back and have a chill for 5 minutes and then up your tempo when you get into the open again, especially if you're a *** climber you'll make up far more time this way...

I bought a pair of pearl Izuma baggies for this exact reason. 45km rides are not a problem with them at all and find them just as comfortable as my bibs on that sort of distance. R1200 ish sounds about right...

Slightly off-topic but...I was trying to make my mind up between, buying a new 2015 S-works Camber from this store or building a far cheaper Santa. I actually received decent service in-store and was erring on the side of CC due to the fact that I would get better back-up service from the brand... but after reading this my mind is made up. I definitely won't be risking my hard earned money with the chance of receiving service such as mentioned in this thread... Not that the loss of my sale will make any impact on them as they will just sell it to someone else. My 2c Worth....

What happened on the 20km? It was my first race so decided to do the 20km to get a feel for it. Started in the back batch, so the bottlenecks were expected and was quite slow going from 7,5km to the end, but as I said nothing unexpected... seemed like lots of people were taking 'short cuts at the 2nd single track river section though and to be honest they could see quite clearly where the route went as it was well marked and they pretty much intentionally cut across that field (thats not an opinion but rather me overhearing them) I basically led my batch from the start with 2 other riders, no one overtook us the entire route and I ended up in 10th or so in the batch... A bit disappointed that my time won't count cause i was hoping to get into a better batch next time around, however all part of the fun I guess...On the positive side, the route was excellent, extremely well marked considering your challenges, thoroughly enjoyable and a nice mix of trail for the inexperienced or unfit rider, so well done to the team.
