  1. "download this app, it's called Strava" i'm now addicted and "a 20 min FTP test isn't so bad, just go as hard as you can from the start" I had never bled from my eyeballs before... same person btw
  2. A friend of mine posted this on FB yesterday, thought I'd share it here... "Something horrible happened today. A cyclist was hit and run over by a car, charcoal Lexus ZDZ 672 GP who failed to stop. It's was at 15h45 on the cnr of Braam Fisher drive and Homestead rd in Bryanston (opposite Sandton Clinic ) I chased this car through the streets of Randburg , down Malibongwe to the Highway to 14th Ave up to Ontdekkers and then lost the car in Traffic. All the time I was on the line with 10111 to get help. The operators were okay but couldn't get any police or metro cops to respond on the radio. I went back to the accident scene and it was already cleared. I will be following up with the police tomorrow to follow up on the driver and condition of the cyclist. I hope he is okay. But I think we need to question our authorities. You can commit a crime and get away with it because the the authorities are useless. You can disobey the traffic laws because you can. In the chase which was over at 20km I didn't see 1 police or traffic officer...so I'm pretty unhappy ."
  3. Congrats on the massive weight loss guys, its hard work and dedication...I know all too well. This thread is really inspiring. I'm 8 kgs down with 8 to go, with the end of year in mind...
  4. Your post about your sore backside made me laugh. It made me remember my first 10km ride on my bike, thought I was going to die it was so sore....don't stress, it's not permanent, time in the saddle gets rid of it quickly. Unfortunately no fix other than a little bit of time. Enjoy your bike and congrats.
  5. Been running the Spez combo, Ground control 2.3 on the front and the grip has been great...Fast track on the back not so much grip but great rolling, Back tyre does spin out under load on steep technical stuff. I know Spez tyres have come under fire lately, but have had no issues at all so far. would stick a ground control on the back for more grip if I needed it. IMO good tyres at an even better price.
  6. Thing that sticks out to me is the stupidity of the sales person... someone walks in the shop and wants something, has to be the easiest sale on earth. Yes sure sir, what colour and size would you like that in? The problem for Spez is, it is a brand problem, no matter how good the product may be. Remember; perception is everything... Can you imagine how frustrating it must be for Spez, you have guys on every podium in the world and then an untrained sale-person in some shop in some "third-world" country that can possibly undo that hard work. Extreme I know... but thats brand perception.
  7. What V12Man said ^^^^^ Great professional advice Based on a friends similar experience and trying many avenues to solve the issue. this would have been the correct route from the beginning and in this order. Do 2 things, firstly make sure the bike is set up correctly if you haven't already, by a highly qualified and recommended fitter and secondly go see a physio, once again a specialist in cycling injuries as they would have seen this before. As it turned out, my riding partner was overcompensating with his stabiliser muscles around the patella as he started getting tired and these in turn got injured from over-use. A great Physic worked this out in 5 minutes and with the correct strengthening exercises and correct set-up was back on the bike within weeks and stronger than ever. Not saying this is your problem at all, just that the correct qualified experts are the way fwd... Hope you sort it out soon.
  8. Could,'t agree more And the problem with that article "Fietsryer clap vrou" its all about perception, and we just got bundled into the same category as this POS.
  9. Problem is this oxygen thief is perceived a cyclist, so to those who don't know believe this is how most of us behave...unfortunate really. I just hope that the general public and motorists realise that there is always one d**s in a fourball that spoils it for everyone else, and generally we are not such a bad fraternity. I hope they realise that this is not a cycling/cyclist problem but rather a human being problem, and this sad creature lacks the basic skills of being human. I mean can you actually imagine behaving like that? It's bottom feeders like this that give me less faith in our race....
  10. I have to agree that basic human needs should be taken care of first. So I'll pose a question, Surely Safety has become a basic human right, surely ensuring people get to work safely should be a priority as well as housing and the rest ? We are not talking about people like me who have other means of transport, talking about the thousands of existing commuters who are actually keeping our roads less busy than what they could be if no-one rode their bikes to work. So my argument, seen as its a friday, would be to build the lanes, ensure commuters rights to travel safely, educate people , get more bikes on the road and less forms of public transport... make a visual impact as Mayor and clean up the streets... Oh and while you are spending a meniscal amount of your budget doing this, spend the other 99.5% making up for 20 years of broken promises...
  11. I Must have missed the point somewhere. I just wanted to illustrate that the dedicated lanes, done in the correct manner i.e. making it difficult for vehicles to jump a large curb onto the lanes, are actually been utilised effectively by commuters every day. agreed take the flagship to where most commuters are, if you are going to do it all. From what I heard the pedestrian / cycle lanes portion of the road cost in the region of 1mil per Km.... Last time I went to school that means we could have had 100kms of cycle lanes at that budget.... something amiss
  12. Just as a matter of interest, for those that don't think people commute, there are literally hundreds of bike commuters riding from Diepsloot every morning, possibly even more than that. Most of them use the new pedestrian/bike pavements that have been tarred by the Steyn City development. I have to agree that Mashaba needs to pick his battles and has done the right thing....for now. I do think that lanes would make a massive difference in a lot of peoples lives, and if they were well thought out would be massively beneficial to our traffic issues. Having chatted to a number of these commuters while on the bike, they have some seriously interesting views on cycle lanes and cycle culture in general, so when Mashaba decides to re-open the project....forget calling in the so-called experts go and speak to these guys, they know what they talking about.
  13. Nice one...Was there an incident that led to your letter?
  14. When you're driving in your car and you start Strava to see how steep the gradient is....
  15. Haha thought I may be reaching a bit here....
  16. Harry thanks for outlining the law, very interesting. Just as a matter of interest, surely living in South Africa where violent crime is an hourly occurrence AND the common occurrence of victims being killed in robberies, it would be safe to assume that your life IS in danger, should someone try to relieve you of your possessions? Surely president has been set or at least can be argued that should you be in this position, your life is in imminent danger due to the high mortality rate in the violent nature of crimes in South Africa?
  17. Wayne is spot-on here... couldn't agree more
  18. Most derailed thread yet....fantastic.
  19. Hey, Just read this. I am on the same mission at the moment so thought I'd weigh in here, so to speak. I was 102kgs 3 weeks ago, down to 98kgs this morning. My ideal weight is around the 92 kg mark, being 6"2 something and built on the buffalo side of things with my lean body mass at 82kgs... so on a mission to get back there in the next 3 months. From there I'd like to try push under 90kgs, but one step at a time. Anyway thought I'd throw myself in the deep-end with you guys, nothing like giving yourself a push by opening up on a forum. To all of you making progress, awesome job, It really is an uphill battle and a test of the mind...
  20. My suggestion would be to get the 400mm seat post now from the guys who sold the bike to you, and get them to check the frame thoroughly, i'm actually quite surprised your frame hasn't cracked already...
  21. the site says 21000 feet of elevation gain today, thats 6500m odd of climbing can that be right?
  22. So how likely is a breakaway to succeed today ? considering the profile of course... Personally think the big guns are going to own the stage.
  23. And MTNQ second in the team classifications....awesome!!!
