  1. So I have successfully completed the Epic, Ironman, Comrades and Robben Island swim in 2019. And yes, Joel the world cup winner with superhuman genes did beat this office worker in overall time but still happy to have completed them all.
  2. I have completed the Cape Epic and IM African Champs this year and will be attempting the Comrades on 09-Jun.
  3. Hi, anyone know where in/around Cape Town one can by quality men's triathlon suits and full body swimwear? thanks
  4. I could only get an op 5 days after my fall as doctor wanted an elbow wound to heal first due to risk of infection during surgery. I wore the sling those 5 days. Had the op the Friday and wore the sling the weekend and the Monday which was a public holiday. Took the sling of the Tuesday and drove back to work. Did not wear it since and regained full motion about a week later. Still can't sleep on the shoulder though as it seems to tighten up bit when I lie on it.
  5. Hi, I happen to be the one who started this thread. I broke mine on 02-Aug. Had surgery on 07-Aug. Against doctor's orders got on the IDT on 15-Aug. Still against doctor's orders did my first ride on the road with my mtb on 05-Sep and have since done over 500km with the mtb, incl K2C and Spur MTB race. Doing 7weekspoort this weekend. I went for my 6 week checkup 2 days before K2C and the bone had grown back but doctor advised I could only then start IDT with one arm, as there was risk that the plate could come loose. Of course I did not tell him about what I have been getting up to. The bone has grown back and the plate is still in place. The ligaments or muscles around the plate are still a bit tender (from the surgery) and more so after a ride but goes away again. Hopefully I am not causing damage but it's the risk I am willing to take. I am stubborn as a mule and addicted to cycling.
  6. Thanks for the comprehensive feedback. I understand fully. I do feel comfrtable going for the op. My surgeon has delayed the op now for almost a week to see if the bones will align and not require surgery, but after more xrays yesterday, we could see that the bones are further apart overlapping each other now and seems surgery is the only way to align it. One part of the bone has moved up further and almost protruding through my skin. So I'm comfortable going for the operation. I just hope now recover is speedy. So unnecessary, I'm addicted to being on my bike.
  7. Thanks. Entered with the hope of smashing my time from last year. but coming off the injury, will take it very easy and just finish, and accompany my mates.
  8. Thanks, broken in once place and protruding past each other. I also need a plate. Fingers crossed.
  9. Great thanks for the feedback Mike, much appreciated. Yes I have an IDT and planning on getting on it from Tuesday. brgds
  10. Hi all, Need some advice please. I broke my clavicle on Sunday during Die Burger MTB. This is my first injury on this scale. I am going for an operation tomorrow, Fri 07-Aug. Those who have experienced broken clavicles before, how long is the average recovery? I have entered the K2C, which is 6 weeks after the operation. Will I still be able to participate under normal recovery conditions? Your inputs will be much appreciated. thks/brgds
  11. Hi, any advice on using a 26er tube as a spare for a tubeless 29er during stage races?
  12. My string of emails is now at 34 and involves Durparks, Cityparks, Council, Sub council, DA and the Mayor. Durparks do not respond at all and whilst the rest all responded, they are now ignoring me. Even the DA has now stopped responding, and they are the ones who publically insult their opposition on poor service delivery - go figure. The fence is there now, the gates will be locked but we will have access via the tag system, which is fine, however the vineyard gates will be locked, which is really the only issue remaining. The land is still there though and we will still have access albeit through certain gates - I suggest the layout gets changed up a bit to include a trail from the Spar gate to the gravel road that leads to the beacon, and then find some solution at the bottom to the exit at Vink's gate. Then we just need to fight for the pedestrian gate at the electric station to link up with Lombards and the top of Majik.
  13. I, and I am sure many others, understand the reason for the fence. The club should therefore consider their approach, ie we buy into the fence and locked gates, we are simply asking for (1). perhaps extended hours for the gates to open at 6am and to ensure that the gates are always accessible during these hours - at the moment they are locked, and (2). For the pedestrian gate at the bottom of the forest by Jip de Jager parking to be included. If this gate will cost money, we as a club can have a fundraiser and pay for it.
  14. I see on the club's FB they want to put together a collective response to the counsil. Let's hope it works.
