  1. Thanks Werner, Hellocolour and the rest of those commenting. I am stoked!! Just one more question.... How do I transport bikes on a hire car?
  2. MTB Trails - between 20 and 100km. Could also be from town to town, having the family meet us at the next night's stop. Keen on Youth hostels etc. Could be some camping. We will have Camping equipment from a friend.
  3. Rotorua is definitely in our plans. I understand there is a great SS community there!
  4. Is there a NZ equivalent of TheHubSA?
  5. I IwanThat would be great. Always good to have the "local" understanding Ian
  6. We are off to New Zealand in December - so exciting - and I thought it may be good to ask fellow Hubbers for a few tips. We will be sticking to the North Island, Auckland, Whangarei, Hammilton areas. 1. What is the best place to get some bikes? 2. I see car hire places don't have a tow bar so what bike rack should I look for and where? Looking at 3 or 4 bikes. 3. What trails would you recommend?
  7. Glad you are OK! Groenkloof is great! It something for those starting off, and something to test those wanting a challenge .... and you may need to stop for the zebra on the way!
  8. Read the blog by Amy McDougall. It sums up the discussion nicely for a person with a height impediment. http://amybethmtb.blogspot.com/2014/04/650b-baby-bear-wheel-size-article-on.html
  9. I am all for TheHubSA having advertising to enable us to have the service free. In fact, I make note of the things advertised, especially where it relates to my MTB passion. Recently though I have been bombarded with my computer's audio telling me "You have mail" To me this is going too far. Please don't do this to me! How do others feel?
  10. Great pictures. The picture of the month must come from one of these!!
  11. Great picture, well deserved winner.
  12. I will send a PM
  13. This is frustrating. I submitted 4 photos. I haven't had any communication. There is no way of seeing others submissions. I think someons should start a new competition with revised rules. To me the idea is more to see everyone's pict, especially of local events.
  14. Mpumalanga Road Champs Jan 2014
  15. There is an easier solution. Use your MTB instead :-)
  16. I was supposed to do it with my daughter. We separated before the start. She did a 3:46, I did a 3:58
  17. Why is there no group specially for Masters?
  18. All the best Amy!!!
  19. 2. Mike's Pass loop - 30km 850m climb This is a great route. You just need to chase the Baboons off the trail! Allow longer than a normal 30mk ride. 3. Mweni Cutback The 45km to the Mweni Cultural Centre could be a great ride in itself. It is the finest of rural KZN. From the cultural centre, all you have is hiking trails and locals for guidance. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking and studying of the map to work out where to go. In my opinion, not great. 4. All Out Adventures These trails are situated near the Royal Natal Nature Reserve, so it is about a 60km drive to get there. It is however worth the ride. The routes have something for everyone. Take the family on the Acatia route of you have limited time and experience.
  20. I have just returned from Cathedral Peak. The main rides are: 1. Behind the Golf Course - +- 15km
  21. Thanks, Paulst12, there is a fair amount to do.
  22. Thanks, will do Mike's Pass a few times!
  23. Thanks Hillbilly, I cannot get drawing routes on Google Earth to work. Will try tomorrow again. I will definitely be visiting AOA.
  24. I have found some routes I would like to try, especially in the Mweni area, thanks hillbilly. Does anyone know how I can map these and download them to my Garmin Edge 800?
  25. Thanks for the comments. Thanks for the map MountainKing. The area you are referring to is about 50km north of the Cathedral Peak area where we will be staying. Ricochet_rabbit, Mt Splendour is in the same area as the map. It would be ideal to have a short cut across, but I cannot see a recognised route. I have 1:50 000 maps of the area and I may just use that and take my chances. Davetapson, I have done quite a lot of hiking on the contour paths and in some places it is too dangerous to ride. I may try this on sections that will not be too hectic. I will let you know when I get back. Any more comments would be welcome.
