  1. Hi there will upload some photos soon. As for cost it was really reasonable. We used a company called Cyclomondo who were excellent. The trip included 7 nights accomodation in great hotels. Three meals a day, including lunch on road whilst cycling. A backup vehicle to follow every day and another one to transport bags, a mechanic who followed each day and serviced bikes each night. 4 days of riding prior to race- 100kms per day including 2 big Cols. Entry to the race and the hiring of bikes (carbon Italian) for a week. Transport to and from Geneva airport. All for e1400. I'm going to make it a yearly trip for that price, way better value than epic.

  3. What an amazing race we rode last Saturday. It happens each year on the first weekend of July and follows the same route each year. It starts in Le Bourg-d'Oisans at the base of Alps d'Huez and traces it's way over the Col de Glandon, Col de Telegraphe, Col de Galibier and finally up Alps d'Huez. 175 km's and 5180m of climbing. The race has around 8000 competitors and is really well run. We rode in the alps for 4 days prior to the race riding all the big col's and used a French cycling company called Cyclomondo whom I can't say enough good things about. For those a little tired of the standard South African races this is an amazing alternative and definitely my hardest day out on a bike. Wasn't prepared for 32 km climbs of 2000m.
  4. Dstv messed up again today on the time trial. Why move to ad break with Froome about to finish. If only there was an alternative for watching sport like we have in Netflix. I'm sure that there would be an outcry if they cut the rugby short a minute before the final whistle.
  5. Try out the spez fast tracks. I have done epic on them as well as numerous other races. Fast, light and durable. Very happy with them.
  6. Do you perhaps know of any accomodation for the first night, just got an entry.

  11. i am training for the epic and not always able to get on road in daytime hours. Does anyone have info on usefulness of indoor trainer (rollers) or spin bike. Have heard 1 hour on trainer = 2 hours on bike but i really doubt this based on feeling in legs after both.

  17. Hi all 29er fans Been riding my 29er gf hifi deluxe for about a month and loving it. Riding a sram 12 34t on the back, found i am at least 2 gears difference when compared to my merida hard tail. My only concern is that raced yesterday in elgin and checked my hr profile and was shocked to realise that 50 % of race was over 75 % of max. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on effort expended and gearing choice on a 29 er. Or am i just unfit. Thanks all.
  18. Hey there guys Went to SSI last week for bike fitting. Really impressed with the service and knowledge of guys there. Well worth the money paid. Also you are able to go back should you have ant probs with their setup process.
  19. Hi all experts I am at present rotating 3 chains on my mtb (every week rotate to next chain). Read up on a forum that doing so extends life of who drive chain system at least 3 times, which if you are running xtr or xo saves a hell of a lot of money. ] The actual tech reason was a bit beyond me. Anyone who could explain in plain language would help me out a lot. It does ensure a constantly clean chain.
  20. Hi all New convert to 29 ers and am impressed to say the least. Bought a gary fischer full suss light at 10.8 kgs. Only prob i have had is tires. It came with specialized controls and back tyre was stuffed in first month of riding thouh the tires did ride well and were light. I am looking for tires to ride epic on, they must be light, durable with decent side walls. Anybody with experience with this your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Trevor
  21. Hey all thanks so much for all the responses, very helpful indeed. Pros and cons with both. Just found out that polar not great with macs though. Mmmm
  22. How do i get one from brent, and are the avid ultimates easy to learn to bleed?
  23. To all the experts out there, i have been using garmin 305 for a while, happy except for battery life and constantly having to recharge. Riding epic next year so training time increasing exponentially. Any thoughts on which would be more beneficial i believe they are in same price range. I need h/r, speed, time, elevation, distance, and gps is a nice to have. Thanks in anticipation.
  24. All you guys who have ridden the epic. Much written about which shoes to use as race gets more technical and portage legs increase. Do you have any helpful tips as i need to buy a new pair of shoes?
