This was CSA's answer to my question via twitter... roadCyclingSA @BoetMurphy U23's didn't qualify via our criteria. Rather spend R100k on 3months intnl races than on a one day race when not on winning form

So, was watching u23 world champs today. Interesting race... Pretty large group at the end with most of the sprinters present. Couldn't help but wonder how J jv Rensburg would have fared in the sprint? The guy is in the form of his life, prob the strongest rider in the SA peleton at the moment... When the uci announced the nation rider allocations for WC, RSA was allocated 4 spots. I stand to be corrected but according to the UCI regulations which most people and I think even CSA didn't realise was that we actually also have the African Continental u23 champ (JjvRensburg) who automatically qualifies over and above our allowed 4 riders. So in essence we could have sent a total of 5 riders... Yet we sent 0, zip, zero, uno! Did I miss something, some small print somewhere perhaps? Surely we should've sent our boys 2 compete... Come on CSA...!

Dangle my friend... When Malcolm wins a race out in timbuktu where I finish 4th, 10mins behind him because there were only 30 guys riding and he adds it to his tally. Well then I think his 400 wins loses some of it's prestige. Robbie has over 30 wins in races ranked in the 1.1 or higher cat by the UCI. I dont no Malcolm's exact numbers but if he has won more than 10 at the same level I will be very surprised. Believe me I dont think Malcolm is a bad rider at all, in fact in their younger days Malcolm was definitely a better rider. Robbie just persisted oversea's and thats where all the difference was made. So no im not insulting any1 and dont intend to, if it is perceived that way, but rather im backing our most successful cycling athlete- not something us saffa's like to do all that much. I do get sinfully frustrated at those who find pleasure in downsizing their neighbour. Everyone has their flaws, but those people who like 2 revel in others have even more. It's a pity... But luckly there is such a thing as grace. :-)

Cant believe this topic... Robbie is an awesome rider. Maybe not the most talented rider 2 come out of SA but probably the hardest working/ most dedicated. He made it when guys like Malcolm Lange couldn't. 1 tour de france win is far greater than 400 local SA race wins. His hard ass attitude is not liked by many but without it he never would have made it. Like it or not Robbie is our best we have right now and should be our childrens 'cycling hero'. So those of you who hate on Robbie, need to grow a pair and realise that none of you were or are half as good as Robbie. Too many bitter has beens out there that never amounted 2 anything. You made no positive difference then and you not making one now either.

I been reading some of the proposed hubbers routes and opinions... interesting but as a 2.2 race the organizers are restricted by the following uci regulations so lets start thinking inline with these regulations. Max ave daily distance 180km Max dist per stage 240km max distance itt 60km max dist ttt 60km so trying to take the race through all 9 provinces will never happen... (transfers are tedious and costly!) The teams allowed to compete will be -UCI professional continental teams - UCI continental teams - National teams - Regional and club teams - African mixed teams so no pro tour team will take part in the ToSA 2011 we need to consider the route needs to be spectator friendly (take it through towns, large towns), rider challenging (mixture of flat,hilly,mountainous stages), tourist attracting (take in SA's finest areas) and logistically viable (quality roads, sufficient accommodation). ill been thinking of a route for ages now... when i finally figure it out ill post it here

Im pretty stoked to hear about the tour of SA, cant wait!!!! though i am wondering which teams are going to ride? mtn medscheme hop emg toyota tcs and???? the cape will pull together a few spoeg and plak teams but without a team barloworld that previously made the giro such a tough race ,who will add that international intensity to the racing? Just a thought
