  1. Trackcyclingsa club will have entered 6 teams in the team sprint at the Bellville velodrome at Track on Tuesday on 16 July. We challenge all clubs to the biggest team sprint competition ever at the velodrome. See you there. Racing starts at 7pm.

  3. Hi, I'd like to know who Giovanni is and what is his claim to fame?
  4. Wat is Giovanni se claim to fame?
  5. Track cycling needs people who have passion for the sport and who have helicopter vision. We would have 3,000 trackies if we could attract 1% of ACT entrants to participate in track. Have you seen collaboration between the current order and the ACT organisers to promote track? People like Abdul, James, Grey Owl and Chunky can offer a lot. We should vote people like these into key positions. All rounder2008-03-25 12:48:14
  6. Abdul has done a lot the past two years as provincial track commissionar in WP. He is more than capable to run the CSA track commission. What's more is that he is putting the necessary time in at grass roots level and has resources that ensures that communication to him happens speedily. Ciao Jaco

  8. Ciao, Today I was put in a tough spot when approaching an intersection and wanting to turn to the left. Two cyclists were riding in the lane that turns that way. These two were chit chatting in an area with no yellow line and riding two abreast. The one was positioned close to the centre of the lane and the other one very close to the dotted white line. I gave a polite hoot as I approached from the side wanting to get into the proper position to turn left... but no reaction. I would have thought that they would drift closer to the side to open space for approaching vehicles! The problem was that there was no space for me to get into the proper turn-off lane and this was a busy intersection. Fortunately I showed some tolerance since I am a cyclist. I believe that this incident could have resulted in road rage if a non cyclist was to be in the same situation! I had to go around the riders since I could not get into the proper lane otherwise. As a result I almost faced the oncoming traffic due to the wide line coming out of the turn. A few cyclists are giving the bulk of us a bad name. We need to stay responsible and concentrate when on the road. There are many road users and we have to create tolerance. I was on my motorbike and it is sad to see that cyclists put me and my girlfriend in a compromising position. Fortunately I was thinking otherwise the whole think could have been messy. 9. In Italy some ladies race with the men as well. They all have a team of SuperDumbAssDicks that pace them and help them. Not easy at all (for either party). All rounder2008-02-08 23:17:58
  10. Hi, Did some more research. Here are the facts for the kilo. 3 elite riders made it under 1min10s at SAs. Blignaut 1.05s Thomson 1.08s Chait 1.08s
  11. To answer you Grey Owl - 1 kilo last year: Blignaut 1:04 in windy and cold conditions at HNP. I was not there, but the time was fantastic for the conditions. 7s faster than second place I heard from folks that were there.

  19. Thomas was 25-mile Boxing day champ for 3-years and was the inaugural winner of the Neotel 25-mile scratch race. Suffice to say that he is a consistent performer on the local circuit. He also won the 2005 madison champs together with Willemse in Durban. Not bad for a roadie. http://www.trackcyclingsa.co.za/Portals/5/Neotel07%20008.jpg South Africa needs: - a sustainable track cycling development structure - track cycling sponsors - big track events - international competition - more track specialists if we want to be competitive at worlds and world cups in the future.
  20. Yes, Groot Lem was in his element. Both at Boxing Day and at the Neotel festival. He knows the sport and obviously has a passion for it. He explained race tactics in such a way that the public could understand it. The sound was awesome at Boxing Day. Andre Abrahams and co had speakers set up all around the inside of the field. You could hear what was going on even if you were sitting in the back straight. Well done to both organizers with these two events.
  21. Neotel 25-mile, Paarl, South Africa - 29 Dec 07. Garth Thomas (CSC) won the 25-mile after slogging it out with Dean Edwards (ChemSpec), Nolan Hoffman (Neotel) and Jamie Ball (MTN) in the afternoon heat. These riders were all two laps up on the field, but it was a battle akin to heavy weights slogging it out as Garth got away from the lead group again in the second half of the race and Dean had to bridge twice to close gaps of more than 200m to stay in touch. It was then well deserved when these two riders took the top spots on the podium. Nolan Hoffman also dragged his battered body back to the leaders on more than one occasion after an earlier accident. He finished fourth. Jamie Ball tried valiantly to break away late in the race, but he was hauled in. The top riders were all together for the final laps of the race and Jamie Ball was riding tempo at the front for the last laps of the race, presumably with the intention to stem further attacks. He was leading the final sprint in the home straight, but was swamped by the recognized sprinters and finished 5th. Durwin Benjamin (Harmony) managed to cruise in for 3rd. 23. White is cool. Very Euro.
  24. Keep it simple - just come ride on the track. There is no white line and oncoming traffic to worry about. Just don't stray out of the sprinters line in the last 200m or you'll get DQ'd. All rounder2007-12-04 11:26:57
  25. Durbell did very well first time round in competition. Let's see some more teams sending their riders to the velodrome - Boxing day entries are open.
