  1. But as far as I know we do not pay tax on the cycling equipment, or at least that is what I read, from guys that order quite regularly. Or do you pay VAT but not import tax?
  2. I think it ultimately depends on what you buy. I do believe in supproting the LBS, but what gets me is how they change their minds to make a sale, or at least that is what I find at the one I go to. I've just bought the Exposure Mxx 2 from CRC, but that is also due to the fact that I know someone who is in the UK at the moment and can bring it with. In that case, firstly it seems hard to find that item in SA and secondly I just don't know how the LBS will knock of 50% of a similar product to try and compete. It a lot of cases thouh the smaler items aren't worth buying, due to the shipping costs involved, but as soon as you can get up to the required 3k and shipping is free, it will be worthwhile. Supporting the LBS is still good, as long as they look after you and not just after their own pocket.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. Mr Mulebar, where do you buy that lube? Good idea MJ, maybe that is the solution at the end. The guy I spoke to yesterday said Motorex is also very good, and that is the one they apply while there is still mud on the chain. Singletrack, the bike I'm riding with is in it's first winter, 3 months old, so I doubt it could be chain and sprockets that is already packing up. I suppose at the end of the day is is experience that counts and no use bailing out when you have a chance to gain that experience.
  4. I did the 9-5 event out a Delvera yesterday, don't know what I was expecting, but with all the rain we had over night, there had to be mud. Cleaned my chain and sprockets quite nicely before the start and used some Squirt, higky recommended by my LBS. After 2 laps I decided that this is it and bailed. I was already getting chain suck and didn't feel like replacing my chain and sprockets. While I was rinsing off the bike, the matter of lube and lubing came up with the other guys standing in the que. The one guy mentioned that lubing while you ride is the only way to really counter chain suck, my next question was that how can you lube if everything is full of mud, uppon which the answer was "better to lube with mud than without mud" , this is really odd as I'm used to cleaning everything first before putting lube on. Anybody got some experience with this?
  5. So, I did the putting slime into a tube with a presta valve thing, it was actually so easy. I use a bottle o sludge, cut of the tip of the bottle, srewed if over the presta valve and squeezed it, done, not problem what so ever.
  6. I just want to know the conesus here. What is better to use, I mean taking everything into account. It is a mission to put the slime in a presta valve tube, but I'm still not sure how common it is to get a schreauder tubeless valve? From what I've seen it seems like presta is the most common for tubeless. So, if I change now, then I'm screwed if I do a conversion? Any thoughts on that?
  7. This is so cool. I see you also have the KCNC flat bar, any problems mounting your speedo on it?
  8. I would say stick to the core. If you go to gym, do some circuit work, abs, very important and some stratching. I'm not a spin lover, but if it is raining, rather do spinning that doing nothing and then maybe do the long rides over the weekend.
  9. That sounds very cool. Where you ordering the BFlex from?
  10. Ok, wait, I think I got something wrong here, is there a common valve for tubeless? or do you get it in both? For some reason I was under the impression that the Presta is more common for Tubeless and was scared to drill the hole for when I do a conversion.
  11. I must say, as far as I know, they drill it at the shop when you buy your new rims, don't they? What I do know is that they do not mind doing for you, which means it is not a train smash. But it will be interesting to know which one to go for, what do you use for tubeles, is that not the presta valve? In which case you won't be able to do the conversion once you've decided which valve to cater for.
  12. Nite rider That code that you're giving there, from which website is it? I'm looking to order everythin one time from dealextreme and they've got a few there, will this work http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7612 , with these batteries, http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21474 Thanks
  13. Good question I think my next question was also heading in that direction. I must say, that as far as possible try and order from DealExtreme, seems like they are relatively cheap and now shipping fees, or at least that is what I got when I ordered batteries. This is fun and games
  14. I think I've found something battery wise, but would like to get some input from you guys, I don't know if you get good and bad batteries. I think this is a descent price and it has the nifty LED power indicator. The link is here, http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4898 , I know it is not from all battery as suggested. Any input would be nice. Thanks
  15. Jaco What you are saying makes absolute perfect sense, thank you for your comment. I think the battery that I have at the moment is a bit old, so you are right. I will also have a look around for that narrow beam halogen. The only problem is that the DIY guy in me wants to give these funny things a shot, even if it is just to se if it can be done. I'll get the narrow beam light today and take some pics tonight and post it.
  16. I recon if I get the Li-ion 14.8V 4400mAh, i can work with that to start of with and get some descent burn time with the Halogen lamp and then also use it for the LED light once that is built. If I have 12AA bateries I'll need like 3 chargers, a bit of a mission. I'll get there, even if it takes a while.

  18. Thanks Night Rider I'm in a bit of a predicament at the moment. I'm using a smal 12V 20W halogen lamp in some irrigation piping at the moment, it's good for general slow sort of night riding, nothin to fast though and I'm using those big alarm/gate type batery, only gives me about 1.5 hours of light. I need to up that, to do some long night rides with the boys, but to do the whole led thing delivery assembly, sorting a housing out, etc, etc, will probably take 4-5 weeks, so I'm looking at a quicker solution to get my battery life up with the halogen lamp and the try and re-use the battery for the LED lights, but..... it seems like getting a descent Li-ion battery will also have to be done via international sites. I'm going to attemp putting together by own sort of rechargeble battery pack, don't to a lot about these sort of thing, but I guess that is the joy in making you own light. Will post result, if sucessfull.
  19. Night Rider Just wantt o know if you ever got the housing machined and if you have some available. Thanks
