  1. MTB'ing is more, way môre, expensive than golf!!!
  2. If it is proper flu, nothing you can do for the next 4 days, you might get meds to help ease the symptoms, but it's gonna stay with you for 4 days, than, hopefully it won't go into your chest and start a cough. Either way, rest is the best medicine, rest alot, no last minute training!
  3. Well done Chris, well done nox1111, let's put this to bed now. (I'm actually out of popcorn)
  4. I had a rear shock, from a certain shock manufacturer, fixed by a certain bike shop. Waited two weeks for it because said shock company struggled to find the parts, eventually got it, did one race with it and it still lost all the air, doing the MTB Argus the weekend and after a call to this certain bike shop they assured me that they will be able to fixed the rear shock before the weekend.
  5. 1. running, 2. MTB'ing, 3. Road cycling
  6. Is it not maybe an Argos light?
  7. How do we buy, without fitting, or can we put dibs on it? I can come and fit and pay tomorrow, or should I buy online and if it doesn't fit you refund me?
  8. Are you saying that f you take a large normally a XL wil fit?
  9. Everybody cannot have a different BETA, cause according to the website, the BETA is something they assign per race, or at least that is the way I understand it. So if it was quite windy on Saturday, the BETA might have been 1.1 or 1.2 or something like that. The BETA cannot be worked out per rider, cause the it means it is like a handicap in golf. The BETA is suppose to reward the rider that did well under difficult circumstances. Or at least, that is the way I understand it.
  10. As far as I understand, they use the winner's time of the race, not your group, so theoretically, it doesn"t matter where you end up in your group, but in relation to the overall winner's time. If you then go by what they say on the website, the calculation is (your time/winner's time)-1 = 0.y = y% The only thing that we won't be able to calculate is how they get to the beta time If you then take the 99'er in the same calculation and use the reworked winner's time which they put down as 2:33,31 (real time was 2:42,04) my calculation would look like this: 202(3:24)/153(2:33) = 1.32026 - 1 = 0.32026 = 32.02% yet, my seeding index is 36.46 Even, for arguments sake if you use the original winning time 202/162 = 1.24691 - 1 = 0.24691 = 24.69% But then I looked at the PPA calculation again and found this: (your time / adjusted winner's time - 1) / beta value and then expressed as a percentage And because we don't kow the beta value, we won't be able to make the calculation ourselves, but working from what index they gave me, the beta for the 99'er was about 0.87 then the calculation should look like this: [(202/153) - 1] / 0.87 = 0.36811 = 36.81 which is as close to dammit compared to what they gave me. So..... Basically it is the formula they use, will be interesting to see what everbody else comes up with if you use this formula and compare it to what index they gave you. Does that make sense?
  11. It was the "African Champs" so anything is possible
  12. I think the time added is not so much from what happens on the climb, but more what happens afterwards. In the past, once you take the turn off from the Blue Route, the bunch is pretty organized, and you make the next right hander, barring any falls or something like that, you are immediately up to speed and either driving in front or hidden away in the bunch all the way to Smitswinkel and then maybe there you might lose the bunch or it gets unorganized because of the backmarkers of the front bunches. Once you go over Boyes Drive, it might still be fine, but going down on the other side, with the tight left and then right, just rips the bunch appart and it takes some hard work and pedaling to make up 'n nice bunch again, something that might only happen once you are in Simons Town. Maybe it is just me with that experience, but I had it in both years. Maybe I'm just unfit
  13. Hope this is not a hijack, but how do you feel about your form/fitness, versus the group you're in, ready, undertrained? Just want to make sure I'm not the only one who is not feeling 100% ready. Starting in D
  14. A bit of a hijack here, but if you are not happy with the cost for the 99'er, you won't be happy to hear that ticket for the Superbowl final range from $3880 to $8730.
  15. SOme interesting reads game up on TheHUb today regarding my question. Interesting to see the wider the better. Not trying to compare myself even remotely to the pro's, but hey, if one can get a 5% advantage on tires, anything helps, but, at the end of the day, just PEDAL
  16. Don't you think the Mountain King has to much rolling resistance for Cross Country? Would you rather go for Maxxis? Or Specialized tires?
  17. I went to CWC this morning to fit the Rudy's, wow, what a comfy fit!!! I did try the Sweep as well, didn't have padding in and only had a large, but the Rudy's sure did fit better.
  18. It is a full-susser. Does that mean 2.0" is a no go? I'm worried about the rolling resistance and weight, or would the width not influence this, or am I just getting a bit anal?
  19. I'm think of getting the Conti Race Kings
  20. So I'm finally doing the tubeless thing. Any thoughts on what the best option is for the typical MTB riding on tar roads, gravel roads and the Jonkershoek, Tokai, Majik Forest, Hillcrest, etc cross country type riding/racing is. 2.2 or 2.0 inches on a 26" wheel
  21. Thanks Dieter, that helps a lot. Edam, I don't plan to fall (lol), valid point, will try to find out.
  22. Hi I'm in the market for a new helmet and was wondering if anybody has first hand experience between the Bell Sweep en Rudy Project Sterling helmets. I can unerstand that it is probably personal prefs, but any input would be very nice. Thanks
  23. Very cool comparison by a pro, http://www.sauserwind.com/diary.asp , I woulk like it if one of the bikes shops get some "normal" guys to do the same sort of test. BUt I think Christoph Sauser sums it up quite well at the end. I would also like to se the finishing results of 29'ers vs 26'ers, for us "normal" people. I would say if yo uare in the market for a new bike, probably good to keep the 26'er (for cross country rides) and get a 29'er, cause it seems most guys are doing the marathon riding on the road with MTB type of thing nowadays.
