    Woolworths

Hey Mapara, jip, just messing around with the "craziness" about this issue. On that topic MariusL, does that then also mean no more easter eggs or christmas.
  2. I've been looking to buy the Bicycling magazine at various Woolworths shops over the lase few days but no luck at all. I see they do stock the Ride magazine though. I think, as dedicated cyclists, we should all stand together and boycott Woolworths because they only sell 1 bicycle magazine, this is appalling from one of the leading South African chain stores. Please join me
  3. That's funny, kind of made my day
  4. Yeah Koukie, I was also thinking along those lines, cause everybody raves about the specialized bottle cage, I guess it comes down to the angle of the bottle? Are yours quite upright, in line with the seatpost? Stumpyrider, I also agree with you, thing is, when you do long rides where it is a lot of flat tar roads and gravel roads, but it does come down to personal preference, I have been riding with a Camelback for years now, and want to give the alternative a try. Thanks for the input
  5. I've been looking at getting the seatpost clamp for an extra bottlecage on the dual sus MTB My question: do you loose a lot of bottles? I saw some people at the Trans Baviaans using this, but also noticed that they continuously feel if it is still there. If you use it, do you find it irritating wondering if your bottle is still there after doing a single track section or some "downhill"? Would you recommend it for MTB'ing? Thanks
  6. I Take it that a lot of you who is taking part in this discussion, is actually doing the rides. Can you guys give me some input on the lights you use, Chris, if I am hijacking the thread, please post it and then we start a new thread on that. Thanks guys.
  7. LeTurbo, I'm not gonna mention names, as this will change the subject, and as we all now, it could get ugly. Bottom line for me is, I just really want to know what works for the cold and if they cannot help me at the bike shop, I'll get first hand info from TheHub. Thanks Mambara, I'm actually waiting for that set of gloves. I love the new Castelli's on CWC's website though and they're a bit cheaper as well, which always helps :-)
  8. Is anybody willing to name brands? Gloves: Rider, Louis Garneau, Sidi, Castelli(The new ones from CWC)? Technical Jacket: Cape Storm, First Ascent, ....? Thermal bibs:??? This wil help as I'm not sure whether spending R200 more on gloves is woth it, and when I start talking to the sales guy and ask what he uses, his response: I don't even cycle. So, anybody willing to spill brands here?
  9. 2:08pm update: The CHP reports it's a driver's side collision, so, the vehicle in the accident will have suffered a driver's side broken window and, possibly, body damage to the left side of the vehicle. The accident occurred at Latitude 34.18114, Longitude -119.04414, which can be located by typing coordinates here. The vehicle entered the main roadway from a short side street terminating at a strawberry farm. The accident happened at 5:40pm, the farm ceases work at 5:30pm according to Jordan's wife Jill Savege, this from conversations with the CHP. This seems to be the lead the CHP is most ardently following. Professional triathlete Jordan Rapp was struck by a car while riding his bicycle yesterday evening. He was rushed to and remains at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, California. According to his wife, Jill Savege, Rapp suffered numerous broken bones including his clavicle and scapula, as well as contusions and lacerations about the head and neck. His doctor reports, according to Savege, that Rapp lost between two and three liters of blood as a result of the accident. He remains in the intensive care unit. The accident occurred at roughly 5:40pm on Tuesday, the 23rd of March. There were no witnesses. Broken tinted glass at the scene is consistent with a side-impact collision with a vehicle. California Highway Patrol officer Frank Paramo said the accident is "consistent with a left hand turn" made in front of an oncoming cyclist. Rapp remains sedated and on a ventilator though doctors say, according to Savege, that a ventilator is not mandatory for Rapp to breathe. Rapp's brain function is normal, and there is no indication of nerve or spinal cord injury. Officer Paramo suspects a commuting "farm worker" made a left-hand turn into oncoming traffic. The accident occurred at the intersection of Lewis Road and Old Lewis Road in the Los Angeles County area of Oxnard.
  10. I love this write up by Conrad Stoltz http://www.conradstoltz.com/
  11. You're right Azonic, but if we all start that argument now, all the bike shops will be out of bussiness.
  12. Flowta, you're right, that makes sense, should have taken my coffee before I put up the post. Thanks mackiemoo, I guess I'll have to go back and get it then.
  13. I went to Cycle Lab in Cape Town yesterday, had a browse around and saw some nice KCNC Bar end plugs. I've been wanting to get those for a while and they had my colour as well. Standing with it ready to pay, I thought, I wonder if this will fit my KCNC SC Bones handlebar, surely it should, but I decided to first go home and double check before I buy. Haning a look on the KCNC website this morning, they Spec all their handlebars diameters between 25.4 and 31.8mm. Now this would be external diameter. The bar end plugs are specced between 18 and 21mm. I kind of feels weird that these plugs might not fit my handle bars. Anybody here know a bit more about it, do you think it will fit? If the SC Bones external dimater is 25.4, the bar end plugs should just about fit?
  14. Ok, great, thanks for the info. I am considering it yes, but flip, it is a expensive exercise, cause I still need to fit the armadillo as wel, and with the bike racks it can cost me close to 12k, which might be a bit expensive for a nifty pratical way to cater for all the cycling and traveling needs. I might just come up with my own idea, will see, for starters I just need to get the Armadillo first and take it from there. But it is still a very, very good idea.
  15. Conrad, just to make sure about your setup, the armadillo was bought seperately and then the Thule guys helped you fit the bike racks at about 6500k? Dit they have to drill holes in the armadillo? or dit the guys fitting the armadillo do the drilling?
  16. Where in the Western Cape are you?
  17. This is what I get:
  18. Ok, so I'm not sure if this topic has now been done and dusted, because there has been quite a bit of moaning going on regarding the work of the PPA. I tried to have a look at the results from the Worcester ride yesterday, first went to the PPA website, cause that is how it worked last season, nothing, not even a mention of it under results. Then ventured to the www.racetec.co.za website, only to find that it is not even there any more. Don't know what is going on, but shouldn't these sort of things improve over time, seems like it is only going backwards.
  19. I've been doing both for the last 4 years, the MTB event always seem to be more difficult, but then again MTB is more difficult that road racing. I really cannot see how the how the MTB event a week before can affect you negatively for the week after. Like you say, if anything it will help you.
  20. Ninja, I hope you really intend that to be sarcasim
  21. That is actually quite shocking. I mean, it's like there's all these associations and organisations we need to belong to, but yet, this happens. Neeee wat, dit maak nie lekker sin nie, I would've been so peeved. I think you must give them a call and ask them what's going on.
  22. I think it is quite cool, not sure when I will be able to splash money towards something like this, but I will even use it at home. If I'm not mistaken, don;t the bike shops use high pressure in any case?
  23. I'm doing a bit of running at the moment, trying to get into shape for my first marathon, this means a bit more time on the legs and possibly looking at us cyclist from a different point of view. So Satuday morning, around 7ish I'm jogging down Amandel Rd in Kuilsriver, reasonably well know to the people of the Northern Suburbs as it gives you access to Polkadraai. Very nice cool morning, but also quite misty. I saw a group of around 8 cyclist approaching and couldn't believe that they were riding in 4 rows of 2 next to each other and that in a place where the is barely space for one car as well as a middelmanntjie, so the car has nowhere to go, didn't say anything as I didn't want to spoil the day for all of us, for interes sake I looked back at them only to see that in the misty condition they did not even have lights at the back. I just fail to understand why we always bitch and moan about the cars but still put ourselves in such a position.
  24. That's kinda cool.
  25. Does anybody know where the number of entries stand at the moment. In the past they kept it pretty updated, but haven't really heard anything yet. It is quite expensive if I want to enter my wife and me, and she needs to get a chip and everything. So also want to stretch it as late as possible, but need to know when "late" is.
