  1. Any one of these sporting decision is tough, dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.
  2. Hi guys, not sure if something like this has been discussed before. I recently bought a new pair of running shoes, Saucony Ride ISO 2, absolutely love them. My problem however is that the left heel has worn off to the point that I'm not sure if I'll get 200km's on them. This has never happened before and my Cumulus 21 has 750km on and can probably still do another 100km's. So my question, do I write this off as being the wrong shoe? I do most of my runs with my girl in a pram, holding it with my right hand, is there a case to be made that one over compensate with the left side because you are holding it with your right side? Or is it more complicated than that? Would love to hear your opinions on this.
  3. https://weekendtrailwarrior.com/product-category/hydration-packs/ Some nice new packs on the way as well, have a chat to them on that site
  4. Very good summary. Luckily in Cape Town it doesn't get below 5 degrees easily..... I think ;-)
  5. Hi Guys Any advise on layering in the winter. Cycling is relatively easy, but what do you do with running, seeing that it is kind of difficult to store the clothing as you take it off?
  6. Depends on how much you want to spend.
  7. Yeah, I've omitted that, I can do sub 5 mins/k relatively comfortably for 10-15km, lets say 4:55 in race condition, but would love to get to do a half marathon in sub 1:40, but that is easier said than done. I've also got my training set on doing more speed work, and then try and do at least 1 kind set of strength training after a run, and possibly do some stretching at night when the kids are in bed, not the best, but the only way to get a good stretch in on a regular basis. I guess something is better than nothing at all.
  8. Some insight please. In order to increase your speed, what would you say will make the biggest change (apart from all of the above) 1. More running or 2. regular interval, tempo running or 3. strength training or 4. stretching Reason I am asking is, although it sounds stupid, it really is difficult for me at this stage to squeeze in that extra 30-45mins of training. I've got about an hour a day to try and be a better runner, or accepts it is what it is at the moment.
  9. Yeah, forgot about the injuries, you are 100% correct. What distances do you run?
  10. A question on training, that might have been discussed here before. What's your thoughts on going out and banging out workouts at race speed (each to his own), and building up from there, vs following a program where you do intervals in difference heart rate/pace zones and then doing slower long runs in like zone 2? Following one of those, I am wondering how you convert the interval training to doing a half, or marathon, in the speed you want to finish it in.
  11. You recon he will cal it a day? I think he has so much more to offer, always thought you might see him on the road as well, he's such a competitor, and actually quite young if you look at Sauser and the ages at which he's won events. But the way Nino goes at it, with a family, maybe he will do just that. Going to be interesting to keep an eye on that prediction. Maybe he would want to win 6 Epics and have that record as well ;-)
  12. Well, we did not really know who Howards Grotts was when he arrived here last here, and they ended up winning. It's gonna be a tough race up front, there's good teams. Hopefully everybody will stay healthy so we can see a honest races amongst the top guys.
  13. I got it on 8 Feb 2019, so it is really new. I think I will send it in to Garmin to have a look, otherwise I end up doing resets way too often.
  14. Good evening all Has anybody here experienced problems with the optical heart rate sensor on Garmin devices? My heart rate, as well as my step counter on my 735xt has stopped working for the second time in the last 4 days. It started working again on Sunday after numerous different resets and restart, and just started working after I gave up, so not sure what I did. Anybody else had problems with this?
  15. That's actually a really nice light for the price. Only thing is, the max lumens looks great on any light, but then you look at the battery life, this one is 1 hour at 500 lumens. But I think in the OP's case, less than that at dusk will be more than enough.
  16. If you don't want a battery pack, you can look at bringing in an Exposure light, I simply love the brand and their innovation, but be prepared to pay. Otherwise, to be very honest, look at the usual generic lights you can pick up for R699, the Exteme Lights range is also good, but honestly, you do not have to fork out thousands of rands if you are not going to be doing proper night time riding, but that is just my opinion. You can get carried away with lights, with thousands different opinions. https://www.wiggle.com/exposure/lights/
  17. How do I link the Racetec number, or is that being done by the app as well?
  18. I hear there's a guy at Cyclelab with a keen eye for these type of things
  19. With CWC/CycleLab on everybody's lips, I'm surprised it took 8 posts to come to this ;-)
  20. Thanks for the reply, some sound advice there. Do you bother with core strength at all?
