  1. Glad you are here to tell the story.
  2. Not that I am commuting at the moment but just as well. We have had so much rain the past 24 hours and it is set to continue for the next 24 hours. Emergency services all over Bavaria on standby as flooding is starting at places.
  3. Glad the pilot ejected safely. Must say it is surprising little damage in my opinion. Would have though the building would have been up in flames.
  4. Maybe I should go cycle around Munich or Innsbruck airport
  5. Looking at those Canards I think Boeing needs to consider it for the Max 8. Could solve their problem with the MCAS
  6. Those Migs with the smoking engines. Love the Mig 29 actually.
  7. This has to be the coolest bike commute picture ever!!
  8. I know one of the big eagles in South America/Amazon area can spot a coin at 2 miles (how they figured that out I don't know). This eagle would hunt among others large apes in trees. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/jungle-eagle-harpy-eagle-fact-sheet/7263/
  9. Actually the stork only takes the number 10 spot. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/highest-flying-birds.html
  10. I would go with D. Seems there are birds capable of flying over FL300
  11. A?
  12. Russian Aeroflot Sukhoi hitting the deck. More than half of the 75-80 odd on board killed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-OeMkcxJFE
  13. Brilliant Only problem is the answer would not be Namibia as it was over international waters of the Atlantic.
  14. As with most air accidents it is normally not just one event that caused the accident but several. Boeing released a new aircraft and pulled a few shortcuts wrt the handling of the aircraft.Pilots ought to be trained to handle the new aircraft and it is fairly obvious that that is not in place. The Pilots (under stress) also made mistakes in trying to get the aircraft under control (propper similation training could have helped prevented it)
  15. 1997. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Namibia_mid-air_collision
  16. Fully agree.
  17. Boeing would do whatever it takes to protect their brand. No doubt about it. What to me was interresting, was that Eon de Vos who is, in my opinion, one of SA's most experienced pilots and who has aviation safety top of his agenda always, posted this link. That to me is very telling. That Boeing with the way they released the 737 Max played part in the accidents in my mind is no question but it was not the only factor that played a roll here. This report also refers to the Indonesia crash and the flight just before the fatal crash into the ocean. They also experienced the same problem but it took a third experienced pilot who happened to sit in the jump seat to help them out of trouble.
  18. Did some of you look at this article? Very technical but I found it rather interresting. Especially in the case of the Ethiopian crash it could see the blame shifted somewhat.
  19. https://aviationweek.com/business-aviation/german-challenger-totaled-after-a380-wake-turbulence I think after this incident they increased the gap that ATC now prescribe to 3000 feet between an A380 and other aircraft
  20. There was an incident 2 years ago when a German private jet flew though the jet wash/contrails of an A380 somewhere over the middel east. The small jet got thrown around like a toy. The passangers were seriously injured, but luckily the pilots managed to get control again of the plane and make an emergency landing.
  21. Eon de Vos posted this link on his CRM facebook page about the 737 Max accidents. Well worth the read. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/boeing-737-max-8-crashes-case-pilot-error-vaughn-cordle-cfa/?fbclid=IwAR0raSZhImJ6T_2-1c5ApKFXC1a3pjyNLWHye-EQkTEG1iPfw95eO-JeSUM
  22. A debate between Boeing and Airbus to me is much like a debate between BMW and Mercedes Benz. Both build very good planes and in my mind they just build good aircraft. Many just don't like the Fly by wire systems that Airbus introduced quite some time ago but I am sure after the B737 max that argument should be put at bay. There are pros and cons to fly by wire. I was lucky enough to fly the 747SP in the 80s. We flew the A380 when we moved to Germany. Pretty much the smoothest landing I have every experienced on a commercial airline as we touched down in Frankfurt. I hope I will get a chance at flying the 747-8.
  23. Here you go ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Loj-zC2Togo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airways_Flight_9 Trying to find pics they took the day after. The ash stripped of all paint from the nose and leading edges
  24. Bottom for me but the A380 is a magnificant beast. As someone once said, the Beauty and the Beast (Yip the Jumbo being the Beauty)
