  1. Seeing the Red Arrows at the '95 Waterkloof Air show will is be one of my highlites in life. All the tricks they did at rapid speed while you see images of the Ramstein accident in the back of your head.
  2. The A340-600 does take quite a few PAX more but with those thrusty engines there is much to gain from it.
  3. Explains why the SAA flight to MUC is now also a A330 and not the A340-600
  4. BA has three flights to JHB and two to Cape Town. I think JHB is a A380, 747 and a 777 if I am not mistaken
  5. BA fly daily between London and CT with a 747. 2 Flights actually ... BA43 and BA59 of which both are serviced by B747 aircraft. They land the morning and return the evening.
  6. I was going to ask the same question. The first time my mother-in-law came to visit us was with SAA and last year she flew with Qatar. She said she would rather fly the longer flights with Qatar than SAA as the SAA aircraft sounded like "Rammelkaste". Now she flew with the B777 and the A350. She was very impressed with especially the A350.
  7. @Wannabe. Jammer om te hoor

  9. With our passing out parade at Hoedspruit at the end of basics it was combined with a family day. So my parents came out to Hoespruit. Towards the end of the day before had to prepare for the parade itself the evening the SAAF had a Mirage F1 throwing a few tricks in the air. As it was finished and I greeted my parents I had a feeling the F1 might return one more time and I still warned my mother that the noise might come back. I had barely walked a couple of meters when that F1 came in a propably just below the speed of sound and pulled up over the parade ground. I never saw it as it was gone to quickly but my mother was standing upright with eyes the size of tee saucers.
  10. When I started using FR24 to monitor flights when I had to pick people up at ORT I already had to be on my way to the airport. Botswana then did not have any FR24 coverage so when that aircraft popped up on the FR24 app it was pretty much at the border with SA and then it was about 30 min before landing.
  11. Munich Airport has a "Visitor Park". It is an elevated lookout point between the two runways with a little restaurant and play area for kids at the bottom and the lookout point is a good spot to view the aircraft at the airport and take pictures of aircraft landing and touching down. Me thinks it is time to rent a 600mm zoom lens and go take some pics. https://www.munich-airport.com/visitors-park-262040
  12. When I did my basics in Hoedspruit a Mirage F1 went down after a bird strike. Pilot also chuted to safety. Still not nice seeing an aircraft ending in a ball of black smoke.
  13. You should have PMed me. Would have stick you for a Weißes.
  14. Ag nee F. You just ruined my day. I suppose after that everything in this guys life was dull
  15. With the soccer world cup we went to Lanseria. I wanted to catch a glimpse of Travolta plane. Ended up taking pictures of a turbo prop making a belly landing on the runway.
  16. 9/11 it was a huge challange to park all the aircraft as there was simply not space at all the airports involved
  17. Propably the first app I spent money on but so worth it. I don't just use it to browse for flights in general but also use it often when we have family and friends visiting us to track their flights. Been using the app for 7+ years already. So you know well in advance if a flight is delayed or not and if so you will know if they made up the time or not and be at the airport in time to meet them. Last year I happen to spot this flight and was monitoring it all day while working. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/airbus-a380-test-pilots-draw-giant-christmas-tree-over-germany-lntgrwtpm
  18. I am also a great fan of FR24. I actually took out the subscription (my wife will kill me if she finds out but 60€ a year is not too bad). Also seen a few occasions where planes were in a holding pattern at Innsbruck and eventually many diverted to Munich.
  19. Best air show I ever attended. Think it was 1995. Still remember the Sunday morning early when those B1 went back home. Came over our house but it soundlike the were gonna fly through the window. The Red Arrows were also at that Air show.
  20. Last I heard ( about three or four years ago) it was not just the pilots but also lacking ground crew.
  21. My two favourate fighter aircraft in one pic.
  22. My new favourate thread by the looks of it. Huge aviation fan here.
  23. I takes a ride or two to get used to it but then life is normal again. Whenever I have to drag my laptop to and from work it feels like I am carrying a bag of sement but by the second ride it is all cool. Even cooler when you all of a sudden do not have to carry the laptop again.
  24. Went on a 30 km ride and wanted to take some awesome pics with some snow and setting sun. But the cellphone batery which was not fully charged did not like the -4 temps I was cycling in. As I took the pic the phone just died
