    Who remembers?

My next visit in SA will defintely include a trip there. Also have fond memories from childhood. With my work in SA I often spent a few nights in towns close by (like Phalaborwa, White River, etc) and would then go for a drive there for two or more hours after work.
  2. Knocking yourself out is the easy part. I am more worried about the other parts of my body that I might permanently damage.
  3. Sliding landing ... https://twitter.com/AndreaABC11/status/1193907302316859392?utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=email
  4. To err is human. There is now way getting out of it. One of the primary reasons while there will still be a two man crew minimum in the cockpit. Make sure you don't make a mistake and if you do the other should correct you or at least spot the error and take action.
  5. Someone had a bad day in the office last week.
  6. Excellant flying. But to answer your question it is difficult. I know Airbus for many years have been working on the flight computer software that should control be lost due to whatever reason, the flight computer could compensate with the available control services to compensate. But at the end of the day it is like a seatbelt in a car. You will always have a scenario where not wearing a seatbelt could actually safe your life but for majority of incidents the seatbelt is crucial. I think with fly-by-wire it is similar. Same as the 767 that ran our of fuel. The pilots had to glide to a landing on deserted runway. The came in too fast and the runway was short. The captain was a glider pilot and he pulled a manouvre they do with gliders to reduce speed. He did the same and managed to do an emergency landing and all survived. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_Glider
  7. Similar to what happened back in the day to this one ... https://airlinegeeks.com/2019/07/20/remembering-united-flight-232-30-years-later/ At least the Airbus landed safely this time.
  8. Those are only aircraft fittet with ADS-B and MLAT transmitters and certain source that supply Radar information. It does not show military aircraft for example and most helicopters, and small private aircraft
  9. Went out for a quick ride after work last week. Sligthly misjudged the temperatures so a tad cool. But other than that an awesome ride out in the fog.
  10. Pretty much on target then for 16:20. Just about to fly past Mauritius
  11. Thanks. Will keep an eye on her.
  12. no extra training required ...
  13. Why did they hop over to ORT to take off from there? Could they not have just have taken off from Waterkloof. I suspect it would be a matter they will not be able to take of from Waterkloof fully fueled. Runway not long enough would be my guess. (Shhh. The Yanks can do it though )
  14. Propably better to take off early morning when the minimum temperatures are at its lowest. But if I understand you guys correctly they took off from ORT? That IL-76 that the Air force or whoever charters often normally takes off very early morning from Waterkloof AFB as it is fully loaded due to the cool air being better to take off in. ORT has one of the longer runways in the world. So not sure what the reason was for the early departure. Maybe you're right and was just to show off
  15. Yip. Was also at that airshow. Just not that young . They also took off the Sunday morning very early (think it was 05:00 in the morning) and flew straight north over our house. Lets just say I was very much aware of them passing over.

  17. Wonder if it was worse than the US B1-B.
  18. Did not post on here too much lately and got very little riding done over the past couple of months. But we have had an absolutely stunning Autumn here this year with lots of sunshine and not too many windy storms that rip off the leaves from the trees too quickly. So the few rides I have done was more in the late afternoon where the setting sun just brushes the landscape in stunning colours.
  19. To answer your question, it is the Gripen in the second pic.
  20. Looks pretty impressive.
  21. I fully understand and am sure the press likes to twist a story a bit.
  22. There are two groups of cyclists ... those who have crashed and those that are about to crash. Welcome to the club

  24. Keep on fighting Cois. Show the c the middle finger.
  25. Remember when I visited my Grandmother in Austria in 1982, I flew with SAA. SAA was not allowed to fly over Africa. So we flew around Africa with a stop over in Madrid and Zurich before landing in Vienna. With the two stopovers combine that was also a 17 hour flight. At least on the final stretch from Zurich to Vienna the plane was probably on a third full with passengers so I could (as a 9yr old) run around in the plane to stretch the legs.
