  1. Too much beer makes him tooo strong.
  2. You guys are giving "Cape Town danger areas" a whole new meaning ... #JustSaying
  3. Should have taken the snake with you and give it to your new friend for christmas.
  4. Add biltong to the menu and you should be sorted
  5. Other than in your shorts
  6. I have to admit it was in a torn state.
  7. Once got a bad cut to my tyre in Pretoria but thanks to the local friendly smokers there were lots of empty cigarette boxes lying around. Slipped in a piece of the box between the tyre and tube and I could continue my ride with no problem.
  8. That is propably one of the big things about commuting. You can't do it by car and also not by train or bus. Everyy once in a while (actually more often than not) I stop and watch the flowers/sunset/sunrise/view in the forest/whatever.
  9. Cycling is fun. Do I need any other reason to commute by bike?
  10. It's actually not so diffficult. As long as the route is sortof safe.
  11. When I started commuting back in 2001. We had showers at work but no hot water. The boiler needed to be fixed in a government building. It took a year to be fixed but it did happen eventually. I just went to the maintenance guys every day. Think the boiler got fixed with the main priority to stop me from annoying them. Non the less, the first winter with cold showers were ... lets say .. f. refreshing.
  12. Was not feeling to well yesterday so was at home. Took the train today and had delays home and for a bonus prise missed the bus because of the train. Needles to say I soooo missed my commute this morning. Will be back on the bike tomorrow. The Ruskies are sending us some cool air next week. Things will be getting interesting on the commutes from now on.
  13. I tend to do quite a bit of stretching at my desk when I get to work. That helps quite a bit.
  14. Like two years ago I guy on a scooter drove out in front of me thinking I would never catch up. He never even looked in his mirror again so never noticed that I actually was approaching with speed. He obviously though that it was the beginning of a long uphill and I would never catch up. So I passed him on his right and just as I was right next to him I made this these loud barking sounds. He practically pooped himself and almost lost control of his scooter.
  15. Almost took out a young guy last week with my car in the dark. He had no lights, no reflectors, dark clothing. I simply just could not see him. Luckily we did not collide but it was close. Was thinking about asking the police if they can't do some spot checks on the cyclepaths in the evenings and maybe the mornings and start giving these guys a hard time.
  16. Not good to hear. I hope you managed to put a good dent in the car while you were at it.
  17. I have learn that a good bike light could actually intimidate car drivers. Left work late last night so the second half of the commute was in full darkness. On the rural roads where I have my lights on medium to max setting, cars 200 meters away start pulling off the road . And I do push my light down that it should not bother them too much.
  18. Also have been dragging the laptop to and from work the last couple of commutes. Some really good (read irretating) weight training there.
  19. Yip I remember it very very well. That was an epic Hub Fight.
  20. Jip, the Bakfiets. Well the trailers are just as difficult to pass as cyclepaths are not always very wide here. Normally when commuting I just take it easy until I reach the outskirts of the city when I started upping the tempo. I am also very cautious when passing people transporting kids. Last thing I want is to pass someone and giving them a fright that could cause a crash.
  21. Those types/shape of bikes are fairly popular here. I think most of them are ordered from the Netherlands. Most I see nowadays are e-bikes. But there is an increase in folks riding around Munich with them with #KindersEnKakEnHare loaded.
  22. *Wiping coffee off my monitor and keyboard*
  23. That means you are not holding you handle bar with both hands as you are constantly dotting down the offences. Shame on you.
  24. We have at the moment a pretty warm Autumn with super weather. It means we have a SA winter (up in Pretoria in anyway) which is cold in the mornings and mild in the afternoon. I noticed that I clock faster times in the afternoon going home than in the morning going to work. (Normally is should be the other way around as it is more "downhill" to work than back). I guess the old muscles just don't perform the way they should when it is cold.
  25. Quite foggy in the mornings at the moment ...
