  1. I am looking at buying a new suspension fork, but would like some advice from all the clever hubbers out there. I am looking at either the Rock Shox Reba XX (SRAM Reba XX) or the Fox F100RLC. Can anybody with experience on these give some input on performance, setup, servicing and back-up. And feel free to make any other suggestions.
  2. Whiskey in a jar - Metallica
  3. Yip Dealextreme is good. Just note that you can get the Cree Q5 from them, read the binning on the data sheet on the LED's to see the difference in lumens on the bins. (Higher bin means brighter) There is a place called rabtron (www.rabtron.co.za) in South Africa, you can try them.
  4. I think the R30 is a basic handling fee you pay to the post office, that should explain the difference in price Daxiet.
  5. It would be expensive, but that is what we are paying for.
  6. I think it will be great if he comes here. Maybe he can team up with Floyd Landis...
  7. We all do it, did 90km/h behind a truck down Botha Avenue going to groenkloof once, and down Rodger Dayson. Having said that I think it is insane to ride like that, one never knows what's going to happen next. But I will do it again, even if I say I won't, we all do.
  8. The route was great but I am not a happy customer. I ended up second in the 30km race, but was penalized for ending up ahead of the lead bike, who got lost several times....interesting. I had a very long conversation with the organisers, who said they must keep everybody happy and must give the guys behind the bike 1st,2nd and 3rd, where is my happiness in that? The same happened to the guy that won the race just in front of me, we rode a whole stretch togehter, passing the lead bike on the jeep track who obviously missed us because the 60km and 30km were riding together. But I am sure the Cullinan race will be better, I hope they learn from this race and provide something that will make us forget this.
  9. Musashi just limit the current through the LED, then you will be fine. Don't know the specs of the driver, what voltage can it handle?
  10. I am looking for bearings for my BB, it is for the GXP. The size of these are 24x37x8mm, and I can't find them anywhere in South Africa. I need these before the weekend if anybody can please help. ThanksCarbon_Kooi2009-06-15 06:47:47
  11. Anyone please.... I got hatfield cycles to order one to fit, it looks great, fits great, but the straps are too short, how is that possible? And no, I don't have a long bullet shaped head...
  12. Have any of you seen the new LED tv's? Those things will make the LCD and plasma look like toys for kids. I think they are about to be introduced to the market in SA very soon, if they haven't already been. Don't know what they will cost though...
  13. Will 11.1V be enough? I doubt it would since you will have a voltage drop over the driver and I'm not sure what the forward voltage of the LED's are, but from what I can remember an 11.1V was not enough... The data sheet says 3.3V@350mA and 3.7V@1A... Thus between the two options I would go for the 2nd one.Carbon_Kooi2009-05-05 03:04:07
  14. The problem with the R/C batteries, refering to the Li-Po ones, is that they must not be fully discharged. Thus you will need to design a small circuit with diodes and resistors, or if you want to, buy a voltage detector circuit to switch off the light or warn you once the batteries gets to a threshold voltage. I built a light using a Cree Q5 and a 7.4V 3150mAh LiPo. The main advantage of this battery is that it's so much lighter than any other battery you will find (140g), using SLA batteries just does not make sense. The battery also charges at 1C if you have a charger capable of doing that, mine only charges at 2A, thus taking about 1h30min from flat to full. With a current load of 600mA the light does 5 hours before I need to charge it. The housing is rubbish since it had to be done the night before a 24h race, so I used what was lying around, will upgrade this soon. But the light it makes is amazing. Will post some pics sometime. I will be building a light for the bike with 3xCree Q5 LED's sometime this year, when time allows it. It will make use of a 14.8V 3150mAh LiPo battery (+- 300g) and my own driver circuit, since the buck drivers are expensive. Will post some pics when this is done. Nice work on your lights mountain lion.
  15. Don't know if one of you saw a little gadget they advertised on super cycling, from cycle lab. It's a small plastic clamp you can put on your bike just under your front derailleur to prevent chain suck. Think it's about 25 bucks, which is not that bad. The zip tie idea is very good, it goes just behind your chainrings on the chainstay, this way the chain can't get between the chainrings and the chain stay.
  16. Has anyone used a MET Veleno helmet before? I am looking at buying one, would just like your thoughts on quality, comfort and ventilation. Any other suggestions on good MTB helmets? Thanks
