  1. No offence, I like a lot of the songs that you post, but that's just reminded me why I dislike prog rock so much.
  2. Just watched this - what a concert!! Here's Jubilee Street. Love the way it slowly builds......until it explodes.
  3. Alison Moyet of Yazoo looking hotter in her 50's than she did in her 20's. Love the combination of the coldness of the synths with the warmth of that soulful voice.
  4. I am certainly no aviation expert, but I have followed this incident with interest. This report does not sit comfortably with me. It appears to have been written with an agenda - put maximum blame on the pilots and minimise the blame on Boeing (but leave a little bit in to create the appearance of impartiality).
  5. I know the BOAC retro livery has already featured on this thread, but this is such an awesome picture..... https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9240882?fbclid=IwAR2QTu8lhd63X-y5Bn3sz_iE1nZqw9mYlgOB1Wzs6KnZiKDrbDmrzLjO-h4
  6. Set the bass to max.
  7. I was also 9 on that first flight on the 727. This was from P.E. via E.L. to Jhb, to connect to our flight to London (flying with my mother, not alone). When we initially booked, we were to fly on a Boeing 707, but this changed to a Boeing 747, which had recently been introduced into the SAA fleet. I was very excited about this - think I was the first kid in my school to fly on a Jumbo Jet. The flight was very long - Jhb - Luanda - around the bulge of Africa - Frankfurt - London. I think about 17 -18 hours, but very enjoyable. Flew out on the Lebombo (first 747 in the SAA fleet) and back on the Tafelberg. Can't believe I still remember the names of those aircraft forty-odd years later - obviously an avgeek in the making.
  8. Didn't know that. Johannesburg features quite prominently in the history of British jet aviation. Inaugural flight of the Comet was also to Johannesburg.
  9. Couldn't agree more. There is just something about the look of those rear-engined aircraft. The VC10 was especially beautiful in BOAC livery. When this changed to British Airways it didn't look the same. My first ever flight as a child was in one of these: To this day my best flight - very quiet with the engines at the rear.
  10. Love that pure voice
  11. First heard this version in the opening sequence of a Peaky Blinders episode (or Peaky Foikin Bloinders as Arthur would say). Slower and sparser than the original version, and better for it - it really lets the emotion in Nick's voice come through. This led me to the album that this is from Absolutely awesome - last weekend my wife and I listened to it 3 times in a row into the early hours of the morning.
  12. Lyrics from this song are on his gravestone
  13. Now those pants are what I call low rise
  14. Wish the Government would use the lyrics of this song as the basis of their policies. Lucky Dube had the answer in 1993 already. Breaking those barriers All over the world Was not an easy thing Yesterday your mouth was shut yeah Couldn' t make a sound eh boy But it' s such a good feeling today When I can hear them from Across the ocean singing this song That the whole world should be singing All the time We' re... Different colours / one people Different colours / one people Hey you government Never try to separate the people Hey you politician Never try to separate the people They were created in the image of God And who are you to separate them Bible says, he made man in his image But it didn' t say black or white Look at me you see black I look at you I see white Now is the time to kick that away And join me in my song Hey you politician Never separate the people here Hey you man hey you man Never try to separate the people Some were from America We were from South Africa Some were from Japan We were from China Some were from Australia We were from the U.K. Some were from Zimbabwe We were from Ghana Some were from Jamaica We were from Russia Some were from Aha-ha-ha We were from Uhu-hu-hu
  15. First Aid Kit doing covers in possibly the most daunting situation - in front of the original artist, and nailing it every time, even bringing Patti Smith and Emmylou Harris to tears. Paul Simon also looks quite moved. Emmylou is not a cover, but I have included it here due to the similar theme.
  16. I had the same experience at their show in P.E. In fact I would rate it as the worst concert I've ever been to. Can't bring myself listen to their music anymore.
  17. The dream: One Litre Brandy, Two Litre Coke and Three Litre Cortina
  18. Looking forward to going on a father/daugher roadtrip next week-end to see Amanda Palmer live in Stellenbosch. Love this Nick Cave cover (unfortunately I can't find a decent video, so audio only).
  19. My favourite part is the acoustic bit at the beginning, Here's Heaven. My only criticism is Tina Weymouth's outfit, which really reflects the worst of 80's fashion. https://youtu.be/MYJWq9Jtf94
  20. I was hoping to post the Glastonbury 1995 performance of this song, when Pulp were at their peak, but the video seems to have been removed from Youtube. So here they are 17 years later at Reading - looking a bit older...... but the band, and Jarvis in particular, still has it.
  21. Wow amazing, Foo Fighters better than The Blackhearts, and Joan Jett still knows how to rock.
  22. Another awesome one by Ryan Adams - the King of the cover.
  23. A fresh faced Amy Winehouse, performing in a church in Dingle, Ireland, just 5 weeks after the release of the Back to Black album, before fame and drugs had taken their toll. This has a wonderfully sparse backing of just guitar and bass, which really allows Amy's fantastic voice to shine through.
  24. She may not be pretty but boy can she sing. Great acoustic backing too.
