  1. Front shock. The one on the fork. But I would like to know about the back one too for that matter. Thanks. Wow, thats a lot of down time. Every six weeks or so. That would cost me around R 5000 (including postage to JHB and insurance) a year. Almost worth letting the thing wear down (only changing seals when they go) and buying a new one every two years.
  2. I love my XT and voted for it. Too be fair, I haven't used anything else so take that into account.
  3. My wife and I both ride Fox float 120mm shocks and we both ride about 100 to 120 km a week. My LBS suggests that we service the shock every 3 months but this entails sending it off and being without our bikes for a while. I want to keep the shock in good nick but also don't want unnecessary expense and time spent on them. What do you guys think? How often should a Fox shock be sent off for service if there are no obvious problems with it. Thanks Ray
  4. Hi Kiwi, still drooling and it's nearly time for X-mas. Tell me, can you replace the hanger on these bikes? Asking because I have broken hangers before.
  5. Couldn't agree more but it's not all roses in MTB either. We have our fair share of: "What' date=' you're only doing the 40? Why even bother??" and "3 hours for that ride? Did you walk the whole way?"A lot of make-believe Burry Standers in the MTB community too.[/quote'] If someone asks me if I got off and walked, I would reply no I got off for a quick shag and it took a little longer than expected. I got two rides for your one... So I gather you aren't one of those "would you like a quickie or the full two minutes" kind of guys? nope I am a foreplay type of guy... and not jewish foreplay... you know 4 hours of begging Problem is: no amount of begging will get a gal to go near my cycling shorts after I have been in em for a few hours.
  6. I hear you Gasping. But face to face you can usually gauge the intent of the ribbing. I don't mind being mocked and never actually feel the need to respond but it is sad to see how even a great, and normally friendly, sport like MTB can inspire pi$$ing contests in men with something to prove. I am not talking about wanting to win here but rather the need to condescend upon those with less ability than you. It is of course, much easier than trying to catch a faster rider.

  8. Does a full beard count? Because I already have one of those. Yes, I know, I actually am a farmer.

  10. Its all he can do!! Tries are a foreign concept!! Suurtiet Aussie (with a verrrrrry short memory!!!!!) !!!!!!! The Blue Bulls (Yay!!!!!!! holders of the Super 14 for the 2nd time' date=' Currie Cup and 15 Springboks!!!!!!) scored three tries before the 24th minute...... in fact the score was 24 for the Blue Bulls at the 24 th minute!!!!!!!![/quote'] ... I'm shocked that the tryscorers never passed the ball back to Skepskop Steyn/Botha/De Beer et al on the 22 to secure them 3 points rather!!! That's what Seffa rugby is famous for!! Dude, you're just silly. Seffa rugger is famous for winning. Just like the bulls. Doesn't help you golden boys scoring gazzillions of tries if you don't ever win anything. Like the last game against NZ, or the one before that, or the tri nations or... oh no, now I am being silly. Sorry... 2 World Cups same as you!! But wait do you want to know what else they are world class at whilst you can only beat them time to time at rugby and less so at cricket??? Wow the question is not where to start but where to draw the line!! F1, Moto GP, swimming, athletics, speedway, cycling, MTB'ing, BMX'ing, tennis, rugby league, etc etc etc......oh and unlike the bulls when they throw a punch ......its not from behind!! Ask Oom H to tell you about Mr.Geldenhuys when he gets a chance!! Oops me being silly again! Yes, I know, I know, Aussies rule! We wish we were just like you lot. But since we can't emulate your fantastic sporting achievements I will revel in our lesser, but no less fun, momentary glory of being current world cup and super 14 champs. Don't really get too caught up in BMX, boxing, et al as I am a rugger fan. Think I am going to find a cycling site that ends with .au and spout off about how their sporting achievements suck and that their players (who I may never have met) = trash. It sounds like fun. You do it. And we want to be just like you.

  12. Dingle Berries are tasteless. How do you know???
  13. I learned that: The faster line which brought me closer to that bending-looking-stick wasn't faster at all. The bending-looking-stick was in fact quite solid and stopped my left hand (and the handlebar it was holding on to) dead in their tracks. The rest of my bike, and my body, continued on their merry way resulting in 5 stitches and a very bruised knee. There goes my front wheel. There goes my training for the Magoebas Classic. Might not be able to ride the race at all.
  14. I don't know about Garmin not being reliable. A lot of us riding in Tzaneen use 305 and 705 models and we have had no problems at all. The GPS receiver is very sensitive, much more than the one in my car, and even if you lose signal the cadence unit wirelessly sends speed and distance info to the unit. The heart rate function works very well and as for data management, you can use either the software, which works on my mac but isn't great, or Garmin's online service which is good. I heard about the 305 units losing battery connection here on the the Hub but none of us have experienced this. Perhaps it's because we are using later models and they have fixed the problem. If money was no object I would have the 705. I had to settle for the 305.
  15. I don't know about the ghetto conversion but I have the Joe's kit and I have no loss of pressure. Less than when I was still using tubes.
  16. I find my full suspension much more fun than my HT which only gets used when the dual is being serviced. It's not about climbing as FS bikes do win races, especially marathon or stage races. It's not about "being real" and riding a "real MTB" or you can take that argument further and say: ride a rigid bike like Gary fisher and co did when they started the sport. It's not really about lines, fast lines are fast lines. Fast lines on a FS are sometimes just faster than on a HT because you can bomb over stuff. It's not about maintenance as a full service on my FS is a fraction of what I pay to have my car fixed (my LBS does my baby for about R250, including full bearing lube) and if you can afford the FS then you can probably afford the service. The question is all about money. Top riders win on expensive FS bikes. I ride better, and faster, on my (relatively expensive) FS. Expensive FS bikes are awesome! They are just expensive. If budget is a concern buy a HT. If you can afford it get a FS.
  17. Please take this as my commitment to... leave me off. I am not the least bit concerned about the image of cyclists in this country or any other like Angola. More worried about the image of white people (some here make it easy to believe we are all racists), smokers (gasp! nuff sed!), motorists (which all of us are anyway), and facebook users... oh forgot, I don't need online friends to feel important.
