  1. No, but I am planning to do Swazi frontier, if I can get in! My brother has done the last couple of Swazis (that doesn't sound right) and said it was the best MTB experience he has had. I live in Tzaneen so all of these races are close for me.
  2. Well, flu happens Still enjoyed myself, just much more slowly. I think Sabie will be my last 45 after that I am committing to the full marathons too.
  3. Holy, I had the flu so neither body nor mind were sound. Didn't get my max up past 50
  4. First time I did this race and it was great, even though I had the flu and barely managed to limp across the finish. Scenery from the top of that mountain almost justified the climb up and the descent, well, that justified every one of the metres up! Well done to the organizers, participants and marshals and thanks for giving me an experience to remember. IdeJongh: How did you go? 75 km next year? TZmtb2010-02-01 00:51:39

    See you all on Saturday!
  6. Careful... you may be tarred and feathered...
  7. To get away from the cradle?
  8. If you are doing the Swazi frontier you may as well plan to be staying overnight Getting fitter and leaner is still not going to get me in under 5 to 6 hours per day. Swaziland is HOT! I am going to need that hydration system and a bottle for my energy mix. I have a slim Camel Bak that does not weigh much more than two bottles and two cages so I don't quite get the "small child on your back" thing. There are different systems. Some weigh a lot and some don't.
  9. Certainly makes my riding more fun
  10. I have two 305's. The first never had any problems at all while the second started switching off on rides. Garmin replaced the unit and voila - no more hassles.
  11. Cheers H. May the bush there be nearly, quite, almost as good. May the road rise up to meet you. May the cyclists BEHAVE
  12. LOL @ the smoking on-the-road roadie.
  13. Dude, have you even seen the new XX groupo... oh wait, I see what you mean...
  14. Hey, we care. We CARE! It's very important to our look that we don't have a look.
  15. TZmtb, I love your work. I wonder if our Lefty mate teaches literacy. I hope not. If his spelling is anything to go by, a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing. Keep doing what you are doing. It sounds like you are trying to make a difference in the lives that you touch. The thing that irritates me so much about this is that in his original post on the other thread, he actually had some good ideas (apart from the licensing issue). Some of us cyclists have no regard for traffic laws. I do not think that anyone will dispute that. Then the tirade/tantrum starts up and the bile that got spewed out really made the arguments put forward null and void. Now we have to start on about who does what for their community to uplift them. Then the discussion goes to who wants to declare war and let's have a beer to discuss this. I choose whom I drink beer with. If I am ever in your neck of the woods TZmtb, I would love to have a beer with you. As for the other chap with his Lefty-ness, I would rather spend an extra day at work than spend 5 minutes in his company. Shot Gasping, if ever you are up Tzaneen way send us a pm and we can hook up for that beer. Even better, bring your bike and I will set us up on a ride. Magoebaskloof is MTB paradise!
  16. Well done on actually doing something to help people Ray! People do tend to forget that a bicycle is transport (and not cheap to the owners) for a lot of people. For the vast majority of cyclists, cycling is not a hobby or sport. It is a tool to help eke out a meager living with their limited resources. GoLefty, I think your cards have been called. Stop the clever word plays, and tell us what YOU have done. Thanks Agteros. Just to set the record straight: I help the people here because I want to and because I like my staff. I also help the people here because happy people are less likely to kill/steal from me. And because I get better prices from the English supermarkets if I do. I am not Mother Therese. But I do what I can even if it's not enough.
  17. Fank youu for ponting thet oot.
  18. For those of you proposing that cyclists get licenses, pass exams and riding tests and pay the government money in order to be able to ride a bike I have a few questions: Are you so arrogant that in your elitist, little world you assume that you are the ALPHA and the OMEGA of cycling? Being a farmer I live in a rural community and work with illiterate and semi literate folk who have no, absolutely NO, chance of passing a written learners test and have neither the time, the logistics, nor the money to take a practical test. Would your self righteous, quick fix approach not deprive them of their only means of transport and possibly even their income? Would you initiate yet another grossly mismanaged and corrupt government institution to reap in kick backs from driving schools and force our youth to resort to bribery in order to avoid long, multi day queues in front of dingy offices? Do you think that our current motor vehicle testing and licensing system has drastically reduced the number of road fatalities? Has it made our roads safer for motorists, pedestrians or cyclists? Many of the cyclists killed on our roads are killed while obeying the laws of the road by LICENSED motorists. On a more selfish note: I already have a drivers license so I know what a STOP sign means. If your actions do indeed force me into a beurocratic nightmare and possibly off my bicycle for good. Then a POX on you! TZmtb2009-12-10 01:04:34
  19. or... sometimes they are just anti it because they want to justify their own decisions. or... it makes them feel superior because they chose something else and how could anybody else choose THAT (kind of how I feel about Land Rover owners. I mean they break, all the time. Don't they? Well, I am sure they do. They must. Everyone says so...) I have been using my Fortuner for nearly four years and it has never broken. Never got stuck. Never tried to kill me or my two young children or my beloved wife. Thats all I know. Thats all I have to go on. If it was a piece of **** I would say "it is a piece of ****" and sell it. Brand loyalty means nothing to me. I owe Toyota nothing. They took my money and I took their car. That's it
