  1. Hey guys - spam time again! The day started out cool and misty but the mist cleared, the clouds drifted away and the sun shone! Hot in the end with a dry track. Ended up with loose of hardpack with sections of humic soil - one section caused a massive wipe-out with the guy being transported away in a neck-brace. Holding thumbs he'll be back in the sadlle chop chop. This group of photographs is from the top section of the course.
  2. Yes, I feel bad that I did not live up to my threat ! hahaha, I'll try make up for it this coming weekend; promise!
  3. I posted some pics of the Greg Minnaar Downhill series a while back.... Another is coming up next weekend (28th) and I'll be there with trusty camera and will with some luck post some photo's from the day.
  4. I sprayed the cleaner on to only the rim about 3 weeks ago....stopping power is still pathetic although I have not done much about it. Simply used the rides as a means of potentially "cleaning" the rubbish off of them. I will not be using that product again as my V's currently have more stopping power with one finger than my XT's with a full hand!
  5. Here's a hard-tail doing Downhill! Go for it china!
  6. For fear of spamming the thread and having guys struggle with load times at work and home, I'll put up a couple more for your enjoyment. Maybe you'll find yourself in one or two.....
  7. Hahaha, glad you like Capricorn! Here are a few more. You asked so nicely
  8. Hey, I'm not a downhill guy but was out at the Greg Minnaar Downhill Series at Worlds View, Pietermaritzburg today - took some shots to spice up the page here Enjoy!
  9. I have the exact same problem on my Santa Cruz Superlight dual suss!! Wow is it frustrating!! Going to be taking for a FULL service next week and hoping that will sort it out. Although on different formats, I'll let you know what comes of it.
  10. WindblownPE - I take it you did not have any problems getting the Mavic rims from CRC?! Cause it says "not to be shipped outside of EU" ... I'm going for the SunRingle EQ21 rather to avoid having my order turned around, but otherwise it's the same as yours....awesome prices!
  11. Hahaha, brilliant humour!
  12. I have a set of "custom" wheels sitting in my wish list on CRC; Pro II hubs, SunRingle EQ21 rims with DTSwiss Revolution spokes...Sitting around R2770. But after looking at those Hope Hoops...WOW, for about R180 more I can get ZTR 355 rims....To me it's almost a no-brainer! Although it would be nice to have the Hope Hoops but with a red hub.... Hope Hoops Features: ? Stans ZTR 355 Rim ? DT Swiss double butted spokes ? Brass nipples ? Weight: 813g (front) or 925g (rear)
  13. I'm also on the look out for a place. Maybe a panelbeater wil be able to help us out?...... I'm just wanting matte black then get a graphic designer/sign writer to apply text to the frame; I don't want a sticker, they just peel off as it happening to my bike now.
  14. Spesh - Yip, riding on SPD's but the noise happens even when in slops on the pedals. But...I can get the noise to happen just by sitting on the bike, feet on the floor and "violently" twisting the bars left to right and so on. Therefore, I think the BB and pedals are out of the equation. Maybe it is the pivots (Santa Cruz Superlight)... they do have some rust on the bolts so could be from them.

    XTR VS. XO

I've recently moved over from Shimano to SRAM and will not be going back! The change is snappy and exact - okay, also relies on how tuned the system is. I've got X9 shifters and X0 RD but the Shimano XT FD
  16. Skewers tight - check! Seat post - check! Pedals - check! Chain shows 0.5 wear so tolerable - check! Crank rings sweet - check! Headset tight etc - check! BB greased - check! Anything else that it could be other than hairline crack somewhere on frame?
  17. I've checked the headset - no play at either the top or the bottom. It's just strange that it happens when both the pedals are at the horizontalfront position respectively....and only when a decent amount of force is being applied. Each time, it's a single, very distinctive "click". I've searched for hairline cracks which may indicate fracture in the frame. I also had the headset re-greased when they put it together for me.... spesh, it's a second hand bike so you could be right there (gone dry over time) but I'm worried that it is something more....!!
  18. I've got much the same problem; click noise at least: I have just bought a "new" second hand bike...Okay, new to me but it's third hand in fact - it's a FS. The problem is that on each pedal stroke, both sides, when the pedal reaches horizontal front position and force is being applied to climb a steep hill there is a "click". This happens while seated. I can make the sound also by sitting on the bike and, with sudden movements swinging the handle bars side to side. The noise has also started happening today when riding slowly and turning using the bars and not leaning into corners. IE, it's getting worse. I had the LBS build the bike from the boxes it came in since it needed a new freewheel from the start. The noise seems to be coming from the downtube....but hard to tell when you are on the bike..it's not the BB area though, I'm pretty sure of that. Could this indicate a crack in the framce? I got the bike back yesterday from the LBS after they needed to order the freewheel. I got the bike on Sunday from the sedller so I would like to get back to the seller ASAP!

I know of Token Freak in CT and now Mike's Bikes in GP...anyone know of a very good sprayer in KZN? I'm wanting to do spray my frame matte black from white.
  20. http://www.mtbiker.co.za Nice site. Has a lot of trails for PMB/Hilton and surrounding KZN as well as CT
  21. And now? How are they - did you convert them to tubeless? I'm in the market for a set but not sure if I should rather go for a true tubeless rim rather than have to go through the process of using a conversion kit.
  22. ELQ is indeed the V-brake rims while the EQ is the disc-only rims. I've just posted about Hope Pro 2 hubs and this rim.... https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=37052&PID=978349#978349 Do you think it was just the batch of rims that was "slightly" bigger than usual? You see, for e it's between the EQ21 and Mavick XC717; if O've remembered the model correctly.
