  1. Hi All,

    Hope you are well?

Has anyone ever made a purchase with https://gobicyclestylenetwork.com/ and received their ordered items?

I'm rather keen on a few designs however they don't seem to have an amazing presence and there are some reviews from SA people where it took a long time to receive their orders based on the reviews on facebook but these reviews ere from some time ago.

    Thanks

  2. Hi all

So my wife has recently started doing Tri's and got her first BlueSeventy Trisuit.

My wife has type 1 diabetes and use a pump for insulin which uses medical tubing to inject the insulin.

The question we have, does anyone know of someone in the Joburg area that could create a hole in the Trisuit pockets and makes sure it doesn't get bigger over time so that my wife can attach the pump in T1?

We obviously can create the hole ourselves but the part we aren't sure about is stopping it from getting bigger when the suit is stretched (putting on and taking off)

    Thanks

  3. It is fine if you are fit, healthy and able to train.

It was when it was 1200 point.  If you were ill or injured an cannot train it was much easier to hit the 900 points without killing yourself trying to do so.  You could do a park walk on a Saturday for 300 points and then swipe your card at the gym for the rest of the week to make the 900.

Try making 1200 points as it was if you were on endurance and you happen to have a broken collar bone, or man down and unable to move.....

Another option and the reason I activated the endurance mode was because I struggle getting my average heart rate anywhere near the averages set by Disco for my age especially with cycling where I'm lucky if my average heart rate ends above 130 on a hard ride and a max of around 160 (running seems to affect my heart rate a bit more).

With endurance mode turned on, Disco will give you more points for lower heart rate averages. Previously I just got 100 points for speed work.

  4. I wonder how many millennials have given up Vitality as they're on to the next thing, vs. older generations that are simply too lazy to "workout" to get 600 points?

BTW, what is the current weekly target for the endurance option?

I'm using the endurance option purely because of a low heart rate and currently it's at 650 points.

It seems to have changed to 650 this week.

    ***Edit: added point increase***

  5. Hi all, a week ago, I invested in an Elite Suito trainer and using my Garmin Fenix 3 for HR data and Disco points.

On Zwift everything works perfectly (besides my legs) however the speed reading that my watch is picking up using ANT+ seems to state that my next job is a professional cyclist.

The workout I did today was a 32 minute workout where I covered 52.3 km at an average of 95.7 km/h according to the values my Garmin received however that's obviously not the case.

Has anyone else had this before and know how to possibly address it?

  6. Im often pretty surprised by how long it takes the older big players to turn around and embrace newer tech that is well proven.

I do a fair bit of contract work for Airbnb and their systems are completely different to a lot of older and often larger companies.

Even small things like using Software Defined Networking are almost non-existent in the "In Cisco we trust" big players where as newer and smaller companies are adopting the newer tech and leveraging automation a whole lot more.

Well I guess you are going to be very surprised with the Banks of SA... The ones we deal with do not embrace newer tech and asking them to do so is an endless loop of trying to get approval from someone else...

  7. Honestly, I feel for these guys, it is a big issue and really a tough one to deal with. Anyone in the IT industry or knows the ransomware issues is probably sipping their coffee thinking thank the heavens I am not Garmin IT right now.

Also our databases and what not are small enough to have full offline hard backups to do system restores, you know how big that Garmin dataset must be?

My major concern is that Garmin supplies the US Military, and with this they should have a lot better security. In theory the ransomware guys could go to a terrorist group and know where all the Military guys are moving around and sell that data. A bit like strava's heat map showing where the secret military bases are.

People need to start understanding geospatial data more.

    Good Luck Garmin

I suspect that the US Military division of Garmin will not be hosted on the Garmin network but rather on the US Military network with on site contracted Garmin engineers to assist with anything they need help with.

It's a lot easier for the US Military to keep their networks under control than to trust that a third party will do that for them.

  8. Thanks guys  ^_^

I've been looking at a solution for this, at the moment I use a rope strap. But I'd like to get something like this, just not sure where to get one.

    e-SCORPION-1-FEATURE-22000x1000-2000x100

Buzzrack has a similar type of clamp for their other bike racks. I may be cheaper than the Thule ones.

  9. Dion Guy seems to be in a spot of bother

Tracker updated 52 minutes ago, I suspect he is near the front.

Seems his wife (Odette) is in the ladies race this year as well.

  10. I rate you do it and I will set the bar for you to beat. My first 947 was in 2014 and I finished after 8 hours and 34 minutes of walking and swearing as I pushed my MTB up many of the hills.

This was the worst day of my life but since then I have dropped my times like a stone and getting closer each year to the sub 3 hour mark (not happening this year due to mainly focusing on Triathlon and Running).

Follow Robert's eating plan and you will be fine.

    Enjoy the ride

  11. Thanks all the responses.

now that you mention it - I did notice that I do have some sticky spittle build up in the pool that I don't recall having in my race on Sunday (not sure if I was just more focused on swimming as hard as possible).  Also something to factor in is if you are drinking juice just before or while swimming in the pool.

Not that this gives you a definitive answer to your question but thought I'd add my experience in.  What does Coach/Doctor Google say?

During and before swim, all I drink is plain water so can't see that being to much of an issue. I have googled previously and apparently on forums its a common thing. According to Google though I have severe asthma and will be died in the next few hours.

What time of the day do u swim and check if and when the guys who maintain the pool add chlorine.
If you swim early mornings there is a good chance your breathing is being affected by the chlorine if they add it to the pool last thing at night or first thing in the morning.

This happened to me and some mates in our swim squad, we used train in the gym pool first thing when they opened, after some investigation we found out they were throwing in to much chlorine at night when the gym closed and then turning off the pool pumps the whole night and covering the pool.

I do think you have a point here. I swim at Boksburg public pool and I'm not sure when they put in the chlorine so will speak to them. If it is at night, we only swim in the mornings so we would get the full brunt of it. I haven't noticed a difference in phlegm from winter where there were covers to now when there aren't.

Quite a few articles online with regard to chlorine and swimming and issues therein.

Have read a few already however many don't mention ways of addressing the issue.

Chlorinated pool water definitely affects my sinuses, I started using a nose clip and it improved dramatically.

That's not a bad idea... may try that one

  12. Aiming to do Durban Half Ironman in June 2020.

I have run a marathon, cycled quite a few distance events but never swam. I can swim but am definitively not swim fit (in fact I battle to swim more than 6 laps of a 25m pool without feeling out of breath).

    Any suggestions please?

Also when should I start doing some serious training in.

I used to have the same issue and I found that I was trying to hold my breath and then breath out and back in when I tilted my head. The best thing that I started to do was exhaling when my face was under water and the breathing in when I tilted my head.

If you doing this already then a coach would be the next step otherwise there is plenty on the internet that will give you tips

  13. Strange question with regards to Swimming in a chlorine pool. Does anyone feel like they struggle breathing due to a phlegm build up?

I feel I have to cough a few time during the set just to get through it.

I only get this in chlorine pools and not in open water dam/lake swims. Haven't swum in a Salt water pool yet however I don't get this issue when I swim in the ocean.

  14. Due to some recent unforeseen medical Issues (Viral Hepatitis), looks like I am unfortunately going to have to give it a skip this year.

Waiting on Dr's orders, but there could be a entry up for grabs in the next week or so.

Obviously depending on the result of your Doc's orders, I may be available to take the entry off you if you so wish.
