  1. To be honest when I did the walk... I mean run last year there were any rocks or ditches that you needed to dodge or worry about. The route was fairly smooth
  2. Shaper is a wetsuit a requirement in the Bela Bela or Germiston race or can you swim without one?
  3. Would also be interested in the Elevation figure... Apparently the race is fairly flat...
  4. Strange question. does anyone know of an entry that is available for the Bela Bela Tri? Unfortunately missed the entries.
  5. yup have looked at that, but dam tri are expensive even with Sars extra money
  6. Did the rockman last year, was my first tri. The run was a 5 k run with 120 m elevation. I nearly died that day. Due to this I won't underestimate a run again.
  7. I stupidily missed the Bela Bela Ironman entries as they sold out quicker then i thought they would... so will be doing Rockman and then join Peds in the Xterra Buffelspoort tri but will do the full. The elevation for the cycling and the run is a bit heavy though, so training will have to increase a lot... Cycle distance : 26 km elevation: 600 m Run distance : 12 km elevation: 313 m
  8. Any details on the prices for the road races?
  9. Stupid question, Why are they so expensive? The 947 Cycle challenge is 95 km ish race however it costs a fifth of the price of a half Ironman event?? And that's excluding the license fees that are required for the Ironman
  10. So I went for a swim tonight and did 1.5 km in 40 minutes, which for me is about 10 ish minutes slow. I was slow however due to stomach pains that started after the 900 ish meter mark. They have been occurring more and more and I haven't been able to properly swim a decent distance for a while now due to this. Has anyone had this issue before? From what I have read its due to breathing techniques or the lack there of. Apparently I'm not breathing out enough in the water and then breathing to much air in when I take a breathe. If this is the case, has anyone possibly got tips as to how I can fix this?
  11. Agree with the above. You can use it as a test to see how well you have done and whether you need to change your training plans to accommodate more for a specific discipline. At least that what I'm doing. If however you aren't going to be able to be ready for Bela Bela and are interested in MTB there is always the RockMan tri on the 4th of December. that was my first tri and it was a really fun one. Only did the sprint last year, but this year I plan to do the full route. The run however has quite a bit of elevation. The at Bela Bela has a total of 17 m elevation over the 10 km run.
  12. I started swimming October last year and was rubbish, could only swim 50 - 75 meters before I had to stop to breathe. The pool at VA Modderfontontien must have dropped half a meter every time I swam there during the week (they haven't called me back to pay for the water difference ). Once I got the concept of doing 3 - 4 strokes and breathing out underwater before taking a breathe, I noticed and my speed increase and I was able to swim longer distances without having to stop. I can now swim 2.8 - 3 km in an hour and have been quite happy with the progress. Plan to do the Bela Bela IM swim in 25 minutes... hopefully... As you swim more and more the fit aspect will come and you will see distances increase as well as pace.
  13. Thanks Guys. Will be doing a lot more research and trying different bikes and sizes till I find one that suits me best, but you guys have helped with the just of what I need. Now its time for training to make sure tris are the future.
  14. Thanks interesting read, especially how it affects different bodily functions and muscle groups so will have to start looking at getting a TT bike once I have done a few more short tri's to make sure I want to spend the money. I have read that the size difference between road and TT is that the TT bike is 1 to 2 sizes (50 - 52 cm) smaller then the road bike (54 cm). Currently I have a Small (Merida Scultura 4000) road bike, not sure about cm. What size should I look for a TT bike?
  15. Is it worth getting a tri bike over just using a road bike with tri bars and the correct setup?
  16. I don't get the above, I have noticed on my longer swims that whatever should stay in my nose doesn't which makes things awkward when you try smile at the good looking kids trainers in the pool... And this is after blowing my nose multiple times before the swim... Will have to try the nose plug situation to fix this leak
  17. Thanks didn't even think about the salt factor in the sea. Will give it a shot when I'm next at the cost. Another strange question with regards to sharks and the nets that keep them at bay, I'm guessing its best to swim at those beaches?
  18. On another note, Sharper, how much difference is there between swimming in the sea compared to a dam or pool with regards to the currents etc? As in does 1 km in the sea = 2 - 3 km in a pool or dam, Never done a considerable distance in the ocean hence my question.
  19. yup a whole 17 m for the 10 km run... must however point out that the surface you are running on isn't the best as its very uneven and not pleasant to walk on with slops. Recently camped there and noticed that.
  20. Otherwise there is the Rockman tri in December which is all off road at Heia Safari in the Cradle loop. Did the sprint last year as my first ever tri. Was a awesome time out however the temps were stupid high. The Garmin picked up 40 + degrees which = near death experience. Link: http://rockmanxtri.co.za/
  21. Beesrib maybe you can use the 5150 as a test to see how you doing. happens on the 20th August at Warmbaths on the 20th of August http://eu.ironman.com/triathlon/events/emea/5150/5150-bela-bela.aspx#axzz4A8SUrep2
  22. Thanks Bonus for the above, sorry if I affected the mood of the thread, wasn't my intention. Will be keeping up with this thread as its amazing. Best of luck Edit: Spelling
  23. very much true that is... (Said in Yoda-like voice)
  24. Hi Bonus and Wendy, Congrads on the move. This has been an amazing "blog" to read on how you guys are progressing through life and allowing everyone to live in Spain through you 2. How is there security over there as in crime etc?
