  1. To be honest when I did the walk... I mean run last year there were any rocks or ditches that you needed to dodge or worry about. The route was fairly smooth
  2. Shaper is a wetsuit a requirement in the Bela Bela or Germiston race or can you swim without one?
  3. I was thinking of doing the Satellite route however I'll be by myself and would rather use roads that I have driven on before and kind of know. thanks for the insight though. I will dodge all the crazy farmers and tornado's in the area...
  4. Hi Guys So there is a chance I will be going to Harties this weekend and wanted to ask how safe it is? The rides will be mainly road. Was thinking of doing a loop around the dam. thanks
  5. In my case, had a crash, scratched my rear Campy skewer quite nicely and am trying to replace the 1. Cheapest price so far is R1000...
  6. Hi just adding my name here as I'm interested. rate the above would be awesome...
  7. Would also be interested in the Elevation figure... Apparently the race is fairly flat...
  8. Strange question. does anyone know of an entry that is available for the Bela Bela Tri? Unfortunately missed the entries.
  9. you could always use you MTB bike for the race. I did that when I first started cycling 3 years ago.
  10. yup have looked at that, but dam tri are expensive even with Sars extra money
  11. yup according to the profile its 1 km elevation over 45 km or something stupid
  12. Did the rockman last year, was my first tri. The run was a 5 k run with 120 m elevation. I nearly died that day. Due to this I won't underestimate a run again.
  13. I stupidily missed the Bela Bela Ironman entries as they sold out quicker then i thought they would... so will be doing Rockman and then join Peds in the Xterra Buffelspoort tri but will do the full. The elevation for the cycling and the run is a bit heavy though, so training will have to increase a lot... Cycle distance : 26 km elevation: 600 m Run distance : 12 km elevation: 313 m
  14. Sorry just noticed that the topic is inception instead of inspection. my bad... Fixed
  15. Hi guys Trust you are all well. Yesterday my brother in law went for a ride after watching Hamilton win at the British F1 race, much to his demise. We started the ride, the weather nice and warm until a cold wind started picking up. At about the 5 km mark will going down a road called West street in Brentwood park which has a 2 % descent gradient. We were doing around 44 km/h when we decided that we would try to be Chris Froome, even after the attached warning provided on Facebook stating it was a bad idea. I was sitting on the top bar on the bike and decided pedalling = speed (thats normal logic right?). At this time my left knee hit the bottom end of the drop bars and this in turn made the bike preform and unexpected turn, I guess for the worst. The bike and I went down pretty hard, Note to self: use glove cover part of hand to slow down and not fingertips, with the bike landing on my rear Campagnolo skewer (needs replaced). After this, the contact points ranged from the bottom of the drop bars (replace bar tap) to the hood of the left gear shifter (needs replaced) to the left pedal (seems fine) and the seat (needs replaced). The section I'm most worried about however is the rear of the bike due to the bike being carbon. Whats the best way of identifying a hairline crack in the frame? I completed another 18 ish km on the bike before we had to return home due to sunlight and this was followed by a bit of screaming why trying to clean the roasties I received during my experience. During the rest of the ride, I tried to push the bike as I usually do and nothing or out of place, this was over all types of road including a plot road that has a few sections of covered potholes (Near brothers in laws house). The bike in question is a Merida Scultura 4000 Carbon bike. Thanks for the help
  16. Stupid question, Why are they so expensive? The 947 Cycle challenge is 95 km ish race however it costs a fifth of the price of a half Ironman event?? And that's excluding the license fees that are required for the Ironman
  17. So I went for a swim tonight and did 1.5 km in 40 minutes, which for me is about 10 ish minutes slow. I was slow however due to stomach pains that started after the 900 ish meter mark. They have been occurring more and more and I haven't been able to properly swim a decent distance for a while now due to this. Has anyone had this issue before? From what I have read its due to breathing techniques or the lack there of. Apparently I'm not breathing out enough in the water and then breathing to much air in when I take a breathe. If this is the case, has anyone possibly got tips as to how I can fix this?
  18. Agree with the above. You can use it as a test to see how well you have done and whether you need to change your training plans to accommodate more for a specific discipline. At least that what I'm doing. If however you aren't going to be able to be ready for Bela Bela and are interested in MTB there is always the RockMan tri on the 4th of December. that was my first tri and it was a really fun one. Only did the sprint last year, but this year I plan to do the full route. The run however has quite a bit of elevation. The at Bela Bela has a total of 17 m elevation over the 10 km run.
  19. I started swimming October last year and was rubbish, could only swim 50 - 75 meters before I had to stop to breathe. The pool at VA Modderfontontien must have dropped half a meter every time I swam there during the week (they haven't called me back to pay for the water difference ). Once I got the concept of doing 3 - 4 strokes and breathing out underwater before taking a breathe, I noticed and my speed increase and I was able to swim longer distances without having to stop. I can now swim 2.8 - 3 km in an hour and have been quite happy with the progress. Plan to do the Bela Bela IM swim in 25 minutes... hopefully... As you swim more and more the fit aspect will come and you will see distances increase as well as pace.
  20. nope from the crash site he was moved to the hospital. We received confirmation from he's girlfriend
  21. The guy in question broke 5 rib, one of which punctured a lung and broke he's arm. The reason he was riding alone was because his partner was having issues breathing during the 3rd stage of the race.
  22. Strange question, why are Saddle bags deemed "uncool"? Had the bulk of the items in OP's shirt been in a saddle back, he could have possibly sustained less injuries...
