  1. Its important to note that it seems that one can no longer score more than 600 points unless you are taking part in a timed and verified race. This also means that it will now take you 25 weeks to reach your 30 000 annual limit if you don't do many races. .
  2. Sorry if this has been asked before but are then any hubbers on this diet riding the 240km/1 day type races? If there are, do you change your diet before the race and how did you refuel during and after the event. I have just started the diet to drop about 10 - 15 kg before the Transbaviaans
  3. Just managed to get entry into the second event to be held on the 22nd August -
  4. Thanks to all that have replied to this thread. I will certainly look into each of these and make a decision from them.
  5. Having recently had a rotational distal tibial osteotomy, I have spent the last 6 weeks in a non weight bearing cast that is about to come off and I would like to ride again as soon as possible. Obviously heeding the doctors recommendations, I would like to start with a fairly aggressive rehab programme thereafter so I would like fellow hubbers to recommend a good physio in the Somerset West or Cape Town area who is preferably a fellow cyclist and/or who focuses on ankle rehab in particular. Thanks in advance
  6. Have a look at easygis.co.za - they seem to have some great prices
  7. Rest in Peace Burry. You did SA proud. Condolences to family and friends.
  8. Thanks. It looks like my next years weekends are now all taken care of. Just need to convince my other half to join me.
  9. Hi, Being new to the Somerset West area having just moved down fom Gauteng, I have heard about some trails at the Lourensford Estate that I would like to ride. I have however heard that one needs to belong to a specific MTB club to ride the trails. Is this correct and if so, what club. Also, what other trails would you recommend riding in the Somerset West/Stellies area apart from Jonkershoek. Thanks
  10. I saw them at the finish in Jeffereys Bay and they had finishers medals on. This was at about 4 am.
  11. Can also get some photos (of the first set of teams ) here http://www.facebook.com/PhotoDynamix/photos
  12. What a wonderful event. A big thimbs up to the organisers and even bigger thumbs up to all the participants who started it. To those that didn't - you certainly missed out. Well done to all the finishers. Highlight: Finishing our first trans baviaans in 17:11 with no mechanicals or major issues Low: None that I can really think of right now - perhaps just the mud after CP 7 and the final river crossing but it was all part of the race. I really falso want to mention that the development team on their old bikes, using takkies/superga's and makeshift backpacks should get a warm round of applause gets a huge round of applause and respect from our team. I dont think I could manage that.
  13. I am doing my first Trans Baviaans this year and as this is my first ride of this distance, I just would like to know what people genarrly do in terms of food or nutrition along the route? Do you generally keep with the energy bars/bananas/peanut butter sandwiches etc and 32GI etc every few hours, or do you have something a bit more substancial around the mid point? Thanks
  14. Thanks to everybody for your comments. Please just be careful and remember that your bikes, phones etc are only material goods and are probably insured. Losing them is a much better option then losing your life trying to protect something that can be replaced. Life can never be replaced.
