  1. Quick question re the Finish Time disposable timing chips. Where do you mount them, or are they embedded in the race number you pin to your cycling top?
  2. Yes, the index number is the same if both websites use the latest race results. However the PPA also includes a seeding letter under a header "Eligibility". I suspect Racetec will update their seedings in the next few days as one of the reasons for seeding is to make races safer if riders of similar strength and ability are grouped together. If you can't wait, then join the PPA! The membership rates are very reasonable considering the work they do to keep us cyclists safe. R100 for individual membership and R150 for a family membership. https://pedalpower.org.za/membership-options/ I am not in any way affiliated to the PPA, other than being a paid member.
  3. Re seedings: I checked on Racetec and my 2023 99er result is not yet reflected. HOWEVER, I also checked my seeding on the PPA website as I am a paid up member and my PPA seeding has already been updated with my 2023 99er result. So this is an interesting one as my 2022 99er result is still being used for my Racetec seeding (plus a penalty of 7) but my PPA seeding is better as there is no penalty added.

Minimum age is not the same for both routes: Long route: 13 years old as a solo rider or 11 if on the back of a tandem Short route: 11 years old See Race Entry Terms and Conditions below: Long (para 1.1.1 & 1.1.2): https://ctcttwebdownloads.blob.core.windows.net/singledownloads/CTCTEntryTerms.pdf Short (para 1.1.1): https://ctcttwebdownloads.blob.core.windows.net/singledownloads/CTCTShortRouteEntryTerms.pdf

  7. Racetec seedings have been updated with 99er results.
  8. Thanks Robert. I have already done just over 8,000km on the chain so will replace now as it seems to be the right time.
  9. Hi there. I would appreciate any opinions whether I need to replace my 11 speed Shimano Ultegra road bike chain as I do not have a wear indicator tool with 0.5 on it.
  10. Thanks for all the feedback. Stay safe on the roads and trails!
  11. Thanks. Most tubes sold online don't specify if the core is removable hence my having to ask. Another question re tube sizes: Most 700 tubes indicate 20 to 25c but what does one use for 28 to 30mm tyres? Is there a size up (perhaps 28-32?) which are more difficult to get as most online stores usually only stock the 20-25 option.
  12. I have never used sealant in road tubes and am considering inserting some sealant into my tubes. Which brand of tubes has a removable core to enable insertion of sealant? Any other insight or feedback re this topic welcomed!
  13. Thank you both for your input. When I used the Retül size guide on the Specialized website inputting my measurements of height, knee to floor and ankle to floor I come out at a 58cm, but when comparing the geometry of my current 56cm Cervelo to the 56 and 58 Tarmac, most of the measurement seems to be closer to the 56 Tarmac size. https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bike-sizing/app#/?mpl=188147
  14. I would appreciate some input on bike sizing for a Specialized Tarmac SL6. I am 185cm tall. The size guide suggests size 56cm frame for height 178 to 183 and 58cm frame from 183 to 191. Should I opt for a size 56cm or 58cm? I currently ride a size 56cm Cervelo R3 which I feel is a good fit. Keen to hear thoughts of those who own or have previously ridden Tarmac models.
  15. I wonder if any mask suppliers have considered creating a cycling specific mask that will allow you to take a sip on your water bottle whilst riding...
  16. I use Garmin ANT+ HR and Cadence sensors on my bike and would like to see these readings on apps whilst training indoors. As I understand, there are 2 options being either an ANT+ dongle (plugs into a computer via USB port) or a bridge ("CABLE" by NPE being 1 option) which does not have to be plugged into any device but is controlled via a separate app. The bridge seems more versatile as it can connect whilst using IOS, Android or Windows devices. Any shared experience would be appreciated.
  17. What is the best way to dispose of empty CO2 cartridges? I usually toss them in the recycling bin but I'm really not sure where they end up. It would be good to be able to return them to bike shops who could then get them back to suppliers to be refilled and resold and in doing so we can preserve the planet. Any ideas?

  19. Also looking for a few entries if anyone has 1 or more available....
  20. I have a pair of Lake MX170 MTB shoes with the Boa cable lacing system & the dial on the one shoe has got stuck & won't tighten the cables. Does anyone know where I can get the special Boa tool to open the dial to investigate what the problem is? I watched a Youtube video & it seems that there's a small tool with a yellow handle that is needed to loosen the dial to open it up. The tool fits into the centre of the dial & is loosened by turning anti clockwise.I think some Specialized shoe models also use the same cabled lacing system. Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of the Boa tool here in Cape Town?
  21. If your chain doesn't stay on the largest cog (i.e. lowest speed gear) but keeps jumping back to the 2nd largest cog, then you need to adjust the L screw on your rear dérailleur (RD). The L (Low speed) & H (High speed) screws are known as the limit screws. Put your bike on a stand & shift your chain to the easiest gear (largest cog). Then turn the L screw of your RD half a turn anti-clockwise. See if this helps. If the chain still moves to 2nd largest cog, then turn it a bit more anti-clockwise until it stays on the largest cog. Make small adjustments each time you turn the screw & check it again between turns until it runs smoothly on the largest cog. Be patient & take your time to get it right as it's very satisfying once it runs perfectly! If the chain moves off into your spokes it means you've over corrected it & you need to then turn the L screw back clockwise a bit. I have put together a very informative document with diagrams which I used to educate myself which I can email to you if you are interested. PM me your name & email address. It's very empowering knowing that you have the knowledge to make the necessary adjustments to a faulty drive train when out on the road or trail!
  22. This morning I rode past the scene of yesterday's accident & the car is still on the side of the road with the windscreen shattered. It's a powder blue Kharmann Ghia soft top, reg CW 43511. Hopefully the police will track down the driver!
  23. I saw the ambulance further along the road just before 7am but I turned a couple of streets before the intersection not thinking there may have been a cyclist involved. The accident I believe was on the corner of Kloof Road & Kings Road in the area where Sea Point borders Fresnaye & Bantry Bay.
  24. Yes, I repainted the toe caps of my white shoes & it worked perfectly. Will no doubt have to touch up every so often but certainly doesn't look "touched up". I certainly recommend using this product and the bottle should last for a few years.
  25. Which shops in the Cape Town area have a good variety of cycling caps for sale?
